A record 197 nations, all current IOC member nations, took part in the Games, comprising 10,318 athletes. The International Olympic Committee voted in 1986 to separate the Summer and Winter Games, which had been held in the same year since 1924, and place them in alternating even-numbered years, beginning in 1994. The 1996 Summer Games were the first to be staged in a different year from the Winter Games. Atlanta became the fifth American city to host the Olympic Games and the third to hold a Summer Olympic Games. The 2004 Summer Olympic Games (Greek: Θερινοί Ολυμπιακοί Αγώνες 2004), officially known as the Games of the XXVIII Olympiad, was a premier international multi-sport event held in Athens, Greece, from 13 to 29 August 2004 with the motto Welcome Home. 10,625 athletes competed, some 600 more than expected, accompanied by 5,501 team officials from 201 countries. There were 301 medal events in 28 different sports. Athens 2004 marked the first time since the 1996 Summer Olympics that all countries with a National Olympic Committee were in attendance. This marks the return of the games to the city where they began. Serafim Todorov is bulgarian and former boxer who won the amateur world championship three times in 91', 93' and 95' and earned a silver medal at the 1996 Summer Olympics. He is the last man to beat Pretty Boy Floyd Mayweather Jr. At the 1996 Summer Olympics, Todorov advanced to semi-finals where he fought 19 year old Floyd Mayweather Jr. Todorov came out with the 10-9 victory but not without some controversy. After the Olympics were complete Todorov rejected offers from boxing promoters from the United States. After the offer Bulgaria offered Todorov no support and eventually after attempting to fight for Turkey, Todorov ended his career in 2003. Meanwhile shortly after the Olympics Mayweather began his professional career knocking out Roberto Apodaca. Floyd Mayweather has now won 10 world titles and Ring magazines boxer of the year twice. he also won the Boxing Writers Association of America (BWAA) Fighter of the Year award in 2007 and the Best Fighter ESPY Award in 07',08' and 12'-14'. Mayweather is currently the WBC, WBA, and ring welterweight and junior middle weight champion. He is scheduled to fight one of his most difficult task yet and he faces Manny Pacqiauo 57-5. The U.S. Olympic Committee announced Thursday that Boston will bid to host the 2024 Summer Olympics and Paralympics. Four contenders — Boston, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Washington, D.C. — were all vying for the honor to be considered by the International Olympic Committee, which is expected to make a final decision in 2017. Boston will now be up against international competition including Rome; either Berlin or Hamburg in Germany; a city in South Africa; and possibly Paris. A winning bid would give Boston the opportunity to host the first Olympic games in the U.S. since the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City. Brazil competed at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, from 27 July to 12 August 2012. This was the nation's twenty-first appearance at the Summer Olympics, excluding the 1928 Summer Olympics in Amsterdam. The Brazilian Olympic Committee (Portuguese: Comitê Olímpico Brasileiro, COB) sent a total of 258 athletes to the Games, 136 men and 122 women, to compete in 24 sports. Brazil left London with a total of 17 Olympic medals (3 gold, 5 silver, and 9 bronze). This was the nation's most successful Olympics, winning the largest number of medals at a single games, and surpassing two medals short of the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, and of the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. Four of these medals were each awarded to the team in judo and volleyball, three in boxing, and two in swimming. Brazil's team-based athletes proved particularly successful in London, as the indoor volleyball teams and men's football team won gold and silver medals, respectively. The women's volleyball team also managed to defend its Olympic title from Beijing. For the first time since 1992, Brazil did not win an Olympic medal in athletics.
