The Persian Gulf was the focus of the 1980–1988 Iran-Iraq War, in which each side attacked the other's oil tankers. In 1991, the Persian Gulf again was the background for what was called the "Persian Gulf War" or the "Gulf War" when Iraq invaded Kuwait and was subsequently pushed back, despite the fact that this conflict was primarily a land conflict.
The Persian Gulf has many good fishing grounds, extensive coral reefs, and abundant pearl oysters, but its ecology has come under pressure from industrialization, and in particular, oil and petroleum spillages during wars in the region.
Historically and internationally known as the Persian Gulf, this body of water is sometimes controversially referred to as the Arabian Gulf or simply The Gulf by most Arab states, although neither of the latter two terms are recognized internationally. The name Gulf of Iran (Persian Gulf) is used by the International Hydrographic Organization.
The first of his fourteen stand-up comedy specials for HBO was filmed in 1977. In 1988, the 1990s and 2000s, Carlin's routines focused on socio-cultural criticism of modern American society. He often commented on contemporary political issues in the United States and satirized the excesses of American culture. His final HBO special, It's Bad for Ya, was filmed less than four months before his death.

Further tests, which one report claimed included another Shahab-3 launch,[5] were conducted on 10 July.[6] The exercise was reported to be a response to Israeli and American military exercises which the Iranian government believed to be related

On board a US aircraft carrier in the Persian Gulf
To reach the USS Carl Vinson, somewhere off the coast of Iran, you have to land on it in a somewhat rough-and-ready Navy transport plane known as a COD, which stands for Carrier Onboard Delivery. To ride in the COD you need to wear a helmet, hearing protection, goggles, and, not at all reassuringly, a life jacket. That's because it's a rough landing. The COD 's landing gear catches a wire coil that stops it most abruptly. The ability to launch both transport planes and fighter jets from such a small landing deck is one of the most impressive features of aircraft carriers, and the USS Carl Vinson has been working around the clock since it arrived in the Gulf in October last year.
Pilots from here have flown more than 2,000 missions, more than a third of all the raids carried out by the US and its allies on Islamic State, under the watch of the ship's captain, Karl Thomas.
"Every day we're going up; finding the right targets. Dropping munitions on the right enemy locations. And the beauty of what we do is we're able to hit precisely what we aim at," he said.
Captain Matt Leahey is one of the pilots who have been going up providing cover and airstrikes in and around the city of Tikrit. Iraqi ground forces have been trying to retake the city from IS militants since March 3, but only in the last week has air support been requested.

The Gulf War, codenamed Operation Desert Guard (2 August 1990-- 17 January 1991), for procedures bring about the buildup of soldiers as well as protection of Saudi Arabia and Operation Desert Storm (17 January 1991-- 28 February 1991) in its battle stage, was a war waged by coalition forces from 34 nations led by the United States against Iraq in reaction to Iraq's invasion as well as annexation of Kuwait.
The war is also understood under other names, such as the Persian Gulf Battle, First Gulf Battle, Gulf Battle I, Kuwait War, First Iraq War, or Iraq War prior to the term "Iraq Battle" became recognized as an alternative with the 2003 Iraq War (likewise referred to in the united state as "Procedure Iraqi Flexibility"). [16] The Iraqi Army's line of work of Kuwait that started 2 August 1990 was met international stricture, as well as brought prompt financial sanctions against Iraq by members of the U.N. Security Council. U.S. President George H. W. Bush set up U.S. forces into Saudi Arabia, and prompted other countries to send their own pressures to the scene.

Great Prophet III (Payambar-e Azam 3)[1] was an Iranian missile test and war games exercise, conducted by Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guards.[2] It began in the early morning[3] of 9 July 2008, when[4] Iran claimed nine missiles were simultaneously test-fired, including a long-range Shahab-3. Further tests, which one report claimed included another Shahab-3 launch,[5] were conducted on 10 July.[6] The exercise was reported to be a response to Israeli and American military exercises which the Iranian government believed to be related to a proposed attack on facilities related to Iran's nuclear programmes.[7]
The commander of the Iran's Revolutionary Guards' air force, Hossein Salami, said that the test proved that "our missiles are ready for shooting at any place and any time, quickly and with accuracy".[3] However, Iranian Minister for Defence Mostafa Mohammad-Najjar insisted that the missiles are "only intended for those who dare attack Iran".[1] After the test, prices of oil and gold, already at or near all time highs, increased worldwide.[8][9] Oil hit a new record (over $147 per barrel) on Friday, July 11, 2008, continuing a weekly string of records.[10]
Types of missile[edit]
On 12 July 2008, The New York Times claimed that numerous deceptions in the weapon test had occurred, including doctored photos and videos that showed multiple different angles of the same launches to make the launches appear more numerous. Experts who analysed the Shahab-3 launch alleged that the shorter ranged Shahab-3A was used instead of the Shahab-3B, as claimed by the Iranians.[13] The Associated Press also claimed that no new capabilities had been demonstrated and that the Shahab-3 tested was not different in size from those tested in 1998. US officials also claimed that the video released looked "remarkably similar to previous tests."[14]
The Chicago Tribune reported that Charles Vick, an analyst with GlobalSecurity.org, has claimed that the second Shahab-3 fired was actually a short range Scud-C missile. He also claimed the tests as, "basically a demonstration of all the weapon systems they bought from Russia, China or North Korea over the last decade."[15]

Dubai has emerged as a global city and business hub of the Persian Gulf region.[7] It is also a major transport hub for passengers and cargo. By the 1960s Dubai's economy was based on revenues from trade and, to a smaller extent, oil exploration concessions, but oil was not discovered until 1966. Oil revenue first started to flow in 1969.[8] Dubai's oil revenue helped accelerate the early development of the city, but its reserves are limited and production levels are low: today, less than 5% of the emirate's revenue comes from oil.[9] The emirate's Western-style model of business drives its economy with the main revenues now coming from tourism, aviation, real estate, and financial services.[10][11][12] Dubai has recently attracted world attention through many innovative large construction projects and sports events. The city has become symbolic for its skyscrapers and high-rise buildings, in particular the world's tallest building, the Burj Khalifa. Dubai has been criticised for human rights violations concerning the city's largely South Asian workforce.[13] Dubai's property market experienced a major deterioration in 2008–2009 following the financial crisis of 2007–2008,[14] but is making a gradual recovery with help from neighbouring emirates.

Dubai (/duːˈbaɪ/ doo-by; Arabic: دبي Dubayy, Gulf pronunciation: [dʊˈbɑj]) is the most populous city and emirate in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and the second largest emirate by territorial size after the capital, Abu Dhabi.[4]
Dubai is located on the southeast coast of the Persian Gulf and is one of the seven emirates that make up the country. Abu Dhabi and Dubai are the only two emirates to have veto power over critical matters of national importance in the country's legislature.[5] The city of Dubai is located on the emirate's northern coastline and heads up the Dubai-Sharjah-Ajman metropolitan area. Dubai is to host World Expo 2020.[6]
Dubai has emerged as a global city and business hub of the Middle East and South Asia.[7] It is also a major transport hub for passengers and cargo. Dubai has been criticised for human rights violations concerning the city's largely South Asian workforce.[13] Dubai's property market experienced a major deterioration in 2008–2009 following the financial crisis of 2007–2008,[14] but is making a gradual recovery with help from neighbouring emirates.[15]
As of 2012, Dubai is the 22nd most expensive city in the world and the most expensive city in the Middle East.[16][17] In 2014, Dubai's hotel rooms were rated as the second most expensive in the world, after Geneva.[18] Dubai was rated as one of the best places to live in the Middle East by American global consulting firm Mercer.

Abd al-Qays
Abd al-Qays was an ancient Arabian tribe from the Rabi`ah branch of the "North Arabian" tribes. In pre-Islamic times, the Abd al-Qays frequently raided Iran. When he became of age, Shapur II made it his first order of business to punish the Abd al-Qays. He led an army across the Persian Gulf and devastated large parts of Eastern Arabia and Syria, slaughtering most of the Abd al-Qays on the way. Later in his reign, Shapur moved many Abd al-Qays people to Kerman Province in Iran. During the Arab conquest of Iran, the Abd al-Qays migrated to Iran in large numbers and carried out extensive raids in southern Iran. Sizable groups of them settled do

Iran–Iraq War
The Iran–Iraq War was an armed conflict between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Republic of Iraq lasting from September 1980 to August 1988, making it the 20th century's longest conventional war. It was initially referred to in English as the Gulf War prior to the Persian Gulf War of the early 1990s. The Iran–Iraq War began when Iraq invaded Iran via air and land on 22 September 1980. It followed a long history of border disputes, and was motivated by fears that the Iranian Revolution in 1979 would inspire insurgency among Iraq's long-suppressed Shia majority, as well as Iraq's desire to replace Iran as the dominant Persian Gulf state. Dubai (/duːˈbaɪ/ doo-by; Arabic: دبي Dubayy, Gulf pronunciation: [dʊˈbɑj]) is the most populous city in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).[4] It is located on the southeast coast of the Persian Gulf and is one of the seven emirates that make up the country.
Dubai has emerged as a global city and business hub of the Middle East.[7] It is also a major transport hub for passengers and cargo. Dubai has been criticised for human rights violations concerning the city's largely South Asian workforce.[13] Dubai's property market experienced a major deterioration in 2008–2009 following the financial crisis of 2007–2008,[14] but the emirate's economy has made a return to growth, with a projected 2015 budget surplus.[15]
As of 2012, Dubai is the 22nd most expensive city in the world and the most expensive city in the Middle East.[16][17] In 2014, Dubai's hotel rooms were rated as the second most expensive in the world, after Geneva.[18] Dubai was rated as one of the best places to live in the Middle East by American global consulting firm Mercer.[19]

Sizable groups of them settled down in Tavvaz near Dalaki in Bushehr Province. In the early 700s, 4,000 Abd al-Qays warriors accompanied Qotayba on his campaign into Khorasan in Iran. The Abd al-Qays were one of the inhabitants of the coast of Eastern Arabia, including Bahrain island. There are many gaps and inconsistencies in the genealogies of Abd al-Qays in Bahrain, thus Baharna are probably descendants of an ethnically mixed population. Bahraini society has traditionally divided itself into three genealogical categories in order: "ansab" (clear genealogies), "la ansab" (unclear genealogies) and "bani khudair" (foreigner). Baharna were "la ansab" because they have unclear genealogies.

Bagpipes are a class of musical instrument, aerophones, using enclosed reeds fed from a constant reservoir of air in the form of a bag. Though the Scottish Great Highland bagpipe have the greatest visibility in the English-speaking world, bagpipes have been played for centuries (and continue to be played) throughout large parts of Europe, Turkey, the Caucasus, around the Persian Gulf and in Northern Africa, and some parts of North America. The term "bagpipe" is equally correct in the singular or plural, although in the English language, pipers most commonly talk of "the pipes", "a set of pipes" or "a stand of pipes".

The Iranian peoples or Iranic peoples are a diverse Indo-European ethno-linguistic group that comprise the speakers of Iranian languages. Proto-Iranians are believed to have emergenced a separate branch of the Indo-Iranians in Central Asia in the mid 2nd millennium BC. At their peak of expansion in the mid 1st millennium BC, the territory of the Iranian peoples stretched across the Iranian Plateau and the entire Eurasian Steppe from the Great Hungarian Plain in the west to the Ordos Plateau in the east. The Western Iranian Persian Empires came to dominate much of the ancient world at this time, leaving an important cultural legacy, while the Eastern Iranian nomads of the steppe played a decisive role in the development of eurasian nomadism and the Silk Route. Ancient Iranian peoples include the Alans, Bactrians, Dahae, Massagetae, Medes, Khwarezmians, Parthians, Saka, Sarmatians, Scythians, Sogdians and other peoples of Central Asia, the Caucasus, Eastern Europe, and the Iranian Plateau. In the 1st millennium AD their area of settlement was reduced as a result of Germanic, Slavic, Turkic and Mongol expansions. The Iranian peoples comprise the present day Azeris, Balochs, Kurds, Gilaks, Lurs, Mazanderanis, Ossetians, Pashtuns, Pamiris, Persians, Tajiks, Talysh people, Wakhis and Yaghnobis. Their current distribution spreads across the Iranian plateau, and stretches from the Caucasus in the north to the Persian Gulf in the south, and from Xinjiang in the east to eastern Turkey in the west – a region that is sometimes called the "Iranian cultural continent", or Greater Iran by some scholars, and represents the extent of the Iranian languages and significant influence of the Iranian peoples, through the geopolitical reach of the "Greater Iran".

Although Iraq hoped to take advantage of Iran's revolutionary chaos and attacked without formal warning, it made only limited progress into Iran and was quickly repelled; Iran regained virtually all lost territory by June 1982. For the next six years, Iran was on the offensive. A number of proxy forces participated in the war, most notably the Iranian Mujahedin-e-Khalq siding with Ba'athist Iraq and Iraqi Kurdish militias of Kurdistan Democratic Party and Patriotic Union of Kurdistan siding with Iran—all suffering a major blow by the end of the conflict. Despite calls for a ceasefire by the United Nations Security Council, hostilities continued until 20 August 1988. The war finally ended with Resolution 598, a U.N.-brokered ceasefire which was accepted by both sides. At the war's conclusion, it took several weeks for Iranian armed forces to evacuate Iraqi territory to honour pre-war international borders set by the 1975 Algiers Agreement. The last prisoners of war were exchanged in 2003. The war cost both sides in lives and economic damage: half a million Iraqi and Iranian soldiers, with an equivalent number of civilians, are believed to have died, with many more injured; however, the war brought neither reparations nor changes in borders. The conflict has been compared to World War I in terms of the tactics used, including large-scale trench warfare with barbed wire stretched across trenches, manned machine-gun posts, bayonet charges, human wave attacks across a no-man's land, and extensive use of chemical weapons such as mustard gas by the Iraqi government against Iranian troops, civilians, and Iraqi Kurds. The United States, alongside regional and international powers, supported Iraq with loans, military equipment and satellite imagery during Iraqi attacks against Iranian targets. At the time of the conflict, the U.N. Security Council issued statements that "chemical weapons had been used in the war." U.N. statements never clarified that only Iraq was using chemical weapons, and according to retrospective authors "the international community remained silent as Iraq used weapons of mass destruction against Iranian[s] as well as Iraqi Kurds."

The Persian Plateau, or Iranian Plateau, is a geological formation in Western Asia and Central Asia. It is the part of the Eurasian Plate wedged between the Arabian and Indian plates, situated between the Zagros Mountains to the west, the Caspian Sea and the Kopet Dag to the north, the Armenian Highlands and the Caucasus mountains in the northwest, the Hormuz Strait and Persian gulf to the south and the Indus River to the east in Pakistan. As a historical region, it includes Parthia, Media, Persis, the heartlands of Iran and some of its recently lost territories. The Zagros Mountains form the plateau's western boundary, and its eastern slopes may be included in the term. The Encyclopædia Britannica excludes "lowland Khuzestan" explicitly and characterizes Elam as spanning "the region from the Mesopotamian plain to the Iranian Plateau". From the Caspian in the northwest to Baluchistan in the south-east, the Iranian Plateau extends for close to 2,000 km. It encompasses the greater part of Iran, Afghanistan and Pakistan west of the Indus River on an area roughly outlined by the quadrangle formed by the cities of Tabriz, Shiraz, Peshawar and Quetta containing some 3,700,000 square kilometres (1,400,000 sq mi). In spite of being called a "plateau", it is far from flat but contains several mountain ranges, the highest peak being Damavand in the Alborz at 5610 m, and the Lut basin east of Kerman in Central Iran falling below 300 m.

Khuzestan Province (Persian: استان خوزستان, Ostān-e Khūzestān) is one of the 31 provinces of Iran. It is in the southwest of the country, bordering Iraq's Basra Province and the Persian Gulf. Its capital is Ahvaz and it covers an area of 63,238 km2. Other major cities include Behbahan, Abadan, Andimeshk, Khorramshahr, Bandar Imam, Dezful, Shushtar, Omidiyeh, Izeh, Baq-e-Malek, Mah Shahr, Susangerd, Ramhormoz, Shadegan, Susa, Masjed Soleiman, Minoo Island and Hoveizeh. In 2014 it was placed in Region 4. As the most ancient Iranian province, it is often referred to as the "birthplace of the nation", as this is where the history of the Persian Empire begins. Historically, Khuzestan is what historians refer to as ancient Elam, whose capital was in Susa. The Achaemenid Old Persian term for Elam was Hujiyā, which is present in the modern name. Khuzestan, meaning "the Land of the Khuz" refers to the original inhabitants of this province, the "Susian" people (Old Persian "Huza" or Huja (as in the inscription at the tomb of Darius the Great at Naqsh-e Rostam, (the Shushan of the Hebrew sources) where it is recorded as inscription as "Hauja" or "Huja"). This is in conformity with the same evolutionary process where the Old Persian changed the name Sindh into Hind/Hindustan. In Middle Persian the term evolves into "Khuz" and "Kuzi". The pre-Islamic Partho-Sasanian Inscriptions gives the name of the province as Khwuzestan. The seat of the province has for the most of its history been in the northern reaches of the land, first at Susa (Shush) and then at Shushtar. During a short spell in the Sasanian era, the capital of the province was moved to its geographical center, where the river town of Hormuz-Ardasher, founded over the foundation of the ancient Hoorpahir by Ardashir I, the founder of the Sasanian Dynasty in the 3rd century CE. This town is now known as Ahvaz. However, later in the Sasanian time and throughout the Islamic era, the provincial seat returned and stayed at Shushtar, until the late Qajar period. With the increase in the international sea commerce arriving on the shores of Khuzistan, Ahvaz became a more suitable location for the provincial capital. The River Karun is navigable all the way to Ahvaz (above which, it flows through rapids). The town was thus refurbished by the order of the Qajar king, Naser al-Din Shah and renamed after him, Nâseri. Shushtar quickly declined, while Ahvaz/Nâseri prospered to the present day. Currently, Khuzestan has 18 representatives in Iran's parliament, the Majlis, and 6 representatives in the Assembly of Experts. Khuzestan is known for its ethnic diversity; the population of Khuzestan consists of Lurs, Iranian Arabs, Qashqai people, Afshar tribe, indigenous Persians and Iranian Armenians. Khuzestan's population is predominantly Shia Muslim, but there are small Christian, Jewish and Sunni minorities. Half of Khuzestan's population is Lurs. Since the 1920s, tensions on religious and ethnic grounds have often resulted in violence and attempted separatism, including an uprising in 1979, unrest in 2005, bombings in 2005–06 and protests in 2011, drawing much criticism of Iran by international human rights organizations.

This film shows the remarkable spread of devotion to Krishna from two ISKCON members in the early years of the new millennium, to two thousand practicing devotees in just one one decade, in just one country of the Persian Gulf region. No name is mentioned to identify the country, which is a strictly Islamic state; nor are the Hindus in this film trying to convert their Muslim hosts.
Yet, the Bhakti-Vriksha approach to preaching is shown not to be restricted to Indians. Vijaya Venu-gopal Das explains in his running commentary that the same approach has been established in several countries of the ex-USSR. "There are no Indians there", he says, and yet Bhakti-Vriksha (the tree of devotion) program has proved to be working in Russia, In Argentina, in China, and as is portrayed in this film, now also in the Middle-East.

Some Arab governments refer to it as the "Arabian Gulf" or "The Gulf", but neither term is recognized internationally. The name "Gulf of Iran (Persian Gulf)" is used by the International Hydrographic Organization.

Some factors considered as possibilities include exposure to depleted uranium, chemical weapons, anthrax vaccines given to deploying soldiers, and/or infectious diseases. Major Michael Donnelly, a USAF officer during the War, helped publicize the syndrome and advocated for veterans' rights in this regard.
Depleted uranium was used in the war in tank kinetic energy penetrators and 20--30 mm cannon ordnance. DU is a pyrophoric, genotoxic, and teratogenic heavy metal. Many have cited its use during the war as a contributing factor to a number of instances of health issues in the conflict's veterans and surrounding civilian populations. However, scientific opinion on the risk is mixed.
On the night of 26--27 February 1991, some Iraqi forces began leaving Kuwait on the main highway north of Al Jahra in a column of some 1,400 vehicles. A patrolling E-8 Joint STARS aircraft observed the retreating forces and relayed the information to the DDM-8 air operations center in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.[136] These vehicles and the retreating soldiers were subsequently attacked, resulting in a 60 km stretch of highway strewn with debris—the Highway of Death.
Another incident during the war highlighted the question of large-scale Iraqi combat deaths. This was the "bulldozer assault", wherein two brigades from the U.S. 1st Infantry Division (Mechanized) were faced with a large and complex trench network, as part of the heavily fortified "Saddam Hussein Line". After some deliberation, they opted to use anti-mine plows mounted on tanks and combat earthmovers to simply plow over and bury alive the defending Iraqi soldiers. One newspaper story reported that U.S. commanders estimated thousands of Iraqi soldiers surrendered, escaping live burial during the two-day assault 24--26 February 1991. Patrick Day Sloyan of Newsday reported, "Bradley Fighting Vehicles and Vulcan armored carriers straddled the trench lines and fired into the Iraqi soldiers as the tanks covered them with mounds of sand. 'I came through right after the lead company,' [Col. Anthony] Moreno said. 'What you saw was a bunch of buried trenches with peoples' arms and things sticking out of them...'"[138] However, after the war, the Iraqi government claimed to have found only 44 bodies.[139] In his book The Wars Against Saddam, John Simpson alleges that U.S. forces attempted to cover up the incident.[140] After the incident, the commander of the 1st Brigade said: "I know burying people like that sounds pretty nasty, but it would be even nastier if we had to put our troops in the trenches and clean them out with bayonets."
Kuwait's expulsion policy was a response to PLO leader Yasser Arafat's alignment with Saddam, who had earlier invaded Kuwait. Prior to the war, Palestinians made up about 30% of Kuwait's 2 million residents.[141] The exodus took place during one week in March 1991, following Kuwait's liberation from Iraqi occupation. Kuwait expelled 200,000 Palestinians from its territory.[142] Before the exodus, more than 200,000 Palestinians voluntarily fled Kuwait during the Iraqi occupation of Kuwait due to harassment and intimidation by Iraqi security forces, in addition to getting fired from work by Iraqi authority figures in Kuwait.[143] The Iraqi education ministry in Kuwait fired 3000 Palestinians in September 1990,[143] and the dismissals of Palestinians from other sectors continued throughout October.[143] The Iraqis also put pressure on the PLO office in Kuwait,[143] which had refused to organize any Palestinian demonstrations and rallies in support of Iraq.[143]
By 2011, many Palestinians had returned to Kuwait and today the number of Palestinians living in Kuwait is 90,000.

This documentary series offers a news account of the first war in history to be broadcast live. This program of the series provides an in-depth look at Saddam Hussein's military tactics and why he failed in his conquest of the oil-rich nation of Kuwait. Volume one, Prelude to War, features a Diane Sawyer interview with Hussein and focuses on the early days of the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait. Volume two, The Allies Strike, provides graphic coverage of the war from Saudi Arabia, Baghdad, and other key Middle East locations. In the final tape of the collection, A Conversation with General Schwarzkopf, journalist Barbara Walters conducts a penetrating interview with the commander of the United States Central Command, Norman Schwarzkopf. Schwarzkopf was in charge of Allied forces in the Persian Gulf conflict and is credited with defeating Hussein. The collection of news reports and interviews provides a unique and comprehensive record of Operation Desert Storm.

On board a US aircraft carrier in the Persian Gulf

Somewhere In The Persian Gulf
Somewhere In The Persian Gulf
This sixty-minute documentary shows the Birth of Bhakti-Vriksha In The Middle-East.
At the very beginning of the twenty-first century, somewhere in the Persian Gulf region, a Deity of Jagannath appeared in a coastal town surrounded by desert. After carrying the Lord onto a chariot, a group of Indian expatriates are pulling the chariot by hand in the same ancient procession as in the Lord’s home across the Indian Ocean.

Persian Gulf
The Persian Gulf is a mediterranean sea in Western Asia. An extension of the Indian Ocean (Gulf of Oman) through the Strait of Hormuz, it lies between Iran to the northeast and the Arabian Peninsula to the southwest. The Shatt al-Arab river delta forms the northwest shoreline. The Persian Gulf was a battlefield of the 1980–1988 Iran-Iraq War, in which each side attacked the other's oil tankers. It is the namesake of the 1991 Gulf War, the largely air- and land-based conflict that followed Iraq's invasion of Kuwait. The gulf has many fishing grounds, extensive coral reefs, and abundant pearl oysters, but its ecology has been damaged by industrialization and oil spills. The body of water is historically and internationally known as the "Persian Gulf". Some Arab governments refer to it as the "Arabian Gulf" or "The Gulf", but neither term is recognized internationally. The name "Gulf of Iran (Persian Gulf)" is used by the International Hydrographic Organization.

Anti-War Christopher Hitchens Debates the First Iraq War: The Persian Gulf War and Oil (1991)
Anti-War Christopher Hitchens Debates the First Iraq War: The Persian Gulf War and Oil (1991)
Many returning Coalition soldiers reported illnesses following their action in the war, a phenomenon known as Gulf War syndrome or Gulf War illness. There has been widespread speculation and disagreement about the causes of the illness and the reported birth defects.

Let's Compare: Persian Gulf Inferno (C64/ST/Amiga)
This game is also knows as "North Sea Inferno" in Germany.
It's an explloring type of platforming game... the kind I don't like too much.
It's quite boring since the oil platform is huge and you are walking much more than you are shooting.
The Amiga version is probably the best. Best audio visual presentation.
