Mary Black (born 23 May 1955) is an Irish singer. She is well known as an interpreter of both folk and modern material which has made her a major recording artist in her native Ireland, and in many other parts of the world.
Mary Black was born into a musical family. Her father was a fiddler, who came from Rathlin Island off the coast of Northern Ireland, her mother a singer, and her brothers had their own musical group called The Black Brothers and her younger sister Frances would go on to achieve great success as a singer in the 90s. From this musical background, Mary began singing traditional Irish songs at the age of eight. As she grew older, she began to perform with her siblings (Shay, Michael and Martin Black) in small clubs around Dublin.
Black joined a small folk band in 1975 called General Humbert, with whom she toured Europe and released two albums, in 1975 and 1978. In 1982 she developed a professional relationship with musician/producer Declan Sinnott and recorded her first solo album, Mary Black. The album performed well in the Irish charts and it went gold. In 1983 it was honoured by the Irish Independent and it is still referred to as one of the best Irish albums of the 1980s. Black ventured into the traditional Irish music band De Dannan and toured with them around Europe and in the US. The album she recorded with them Anthem, won the Irish Album of the Year award. During her time with De Dannan, Black continued with her solo career with albums such as Collected (1984) and Without the Fanfare (1985). These recordings took Black into a more modern musical direction. Along with the success of these releases, IRMA named her Entertainer of the Year in 1986 and Best Female Artist in 1987 and 1988.

the collection live 1992 No Frontiers (Jimmy McCarthy) If life is a river and your heart is a boat And just like a water baby, baby born to float And if life is a wild wind that blows way on high Then your heart is Amelia dying to fly Heaven knows no frontiers And I've seen heaven in your eyes And if life is a bar room in which we must wait 'Round the man with his fingers on the ivory gates Where we sing until dawn of our fears and our fates And we stack all the deadmen in self addressed crates In your eyes faint as the singing of a lark That somehow this black night Feels warmer for the spark Warmer for the spark To hold us 'til the day When fear will lose its grip And heaven has its way Heaven knows no frontiers And I've seen heaven in your eyes If your li...
I've found a new favorite :) lyrics: Last night I dreamed you were back again Larger than life again, holding me tight again Placing those same kisses on my brow Sweeter than ever now, lord I remember how Couldn't get enough of kissing Do you know how much I'm missing? No you don't, but I do Days like a slow train trickle by Even the words that I write refuse to fly All that I can hear is your song haunting me Can't get the melody out of my head you see Distractions I've been using Do you know how much I'm losing? No you don't, but I do But I do and I wonder if I'm past the point of rescue An is no word from you at all the best that you can do Never meant to push or shove you Do you know how much I love you? No you don't, but I do. ** ** ** The photo ...

An interview with Mary Black before her October 25, 2014 performance at The Birchmere

I interviewed author, Peter Janney, re his book, "MARY'S MOSAIC" about the murder of Mary Pinchot Meyer, wife of Cord Meyer and Mistress to JFK. This is a fascinating book about the conspiracy surrounding the murder of Mary Meyer and her relationship with JFK. This is an important book that contains additional evidence about the KENNEDY ASSASSINATION and excellent detail on the coverup. GO HERE FOR PETER'S WEBSITE: http://www.marysmosaic.net/ About the Author (FROM THE AUTHOR'S SITE) Peter Janney grew up in Washington, D.C. during the Cold War era of the 1950s and 1960s. His father Wistar Janney was a senior career CIA official. Initiation (SSU Boys # 0.5)by Maris Black Audiobook
Tumbling curls of green by stainglass streaming light
And a yellow coloured lampshade used to keep us up all night
And the smile upon her face,
the tears upon your cheek
And the night sky on the window
Your heart calling out to me.
Come running home again, katie
Come running home again
Cross my heart and hope to die
Shall I cause another tear from your eye
The mirror that won't talk and your nightgown on the door
And the old pedal singer just don't sing no more
You can roll the reels for hours
From the movie of this book
It's a question mark on this heart of mine
Sends an elder back to look.
Come running home again, katie
Come running home again
Cross my heart and hope to die
Shall I cause another tear from your eye
Now I'm looking through a tunnel
Back into the room
With the genius of a druid when the sunlight floods the tomb
And I'm never going back there,
and I couldn't anyway
'cause though I made the great escape
I never got away.
Come running home again, katie
Come running home again
Cross my heart and hope to die
