Taylor Holmes (May 16, 1878 – September 30, 1959) was an actor who appeared in over 100 Broadway plays in his five-decade career. However, he is probably best remembered for his film roles, which he began in silent movies in 1917. In one of his earliest films, he starred in A Pair of Sixes (1918), produced by George K. Spoor.
Holmes was born on May 16, 1878, in Newark, New Jersey.
Holmes began his stage career in vaudeville and made his first professional appearance at Keith's Theatre in Boston in 1899. In 1900, Holmes appeared George Bernard Shaw's Candida in Chicago, the first production in the United States. Noted British theater critic William Archer saw the production and encouraged Holmes to go to London to further his career. Holmes sought out Archer in London some months later and joined the company founded by Olga Nethersole. He achieved only middling success before returning to the American stages.
He made his Broadway debut in February 1900 in the controversial play Sapho, which was briefly closed for indecency. Holmes played Rosencrantz with E. H. Sothern in a production of Hamlet and toured with Robert Edeson. He appeared in stage hits such as The Commuters, The Music Master, and His Majesty Bunker Bean.

The Hitmakers was a Danish rock group established in 1960 in Copenhagen with the initiative of Jørgen Wulff Krabbenhøft (vocalist and guitar) and Benny Qvotrup (drummer). By 1961, the band also included Steen Bergstrøm (guitar), Erik Grønfeldt Hansen (bass). The band was considered a pioneer in Danish rock based on the model of Cliff Richard and The Shadows and also the Liverpool sound exemplified by The Beatles.
The first official release by the band was a cover of The Beatles' "I Saw Her Standing There". Beyond Denmark, the band toured Finland gaining popularity there. They also recorded a cover of Little Richard's "Long Tall Sally".
In 1963, Benny Qvotrup quit being replaced by drummer Torben Orls Weinholt Sardorf and Erik Grønfeldt Hansen was replaced by bassist Bjarne Hørup Hørman de la Motte who used to play with The Cliffters.
The Hitmakers' biggest Danish hit was "Stop the Music" in December 1965 with a performance on the entertainment program Klar i Studiet. Two decades later this single was still considered one of Danish popular music's "high spots from this time of transition."
On Victor 55218, Taylor Holmes recites a poem that is known by two titles. The correct title as given by the author is "The Face Upon The Floor.” But the poem became known as "The Face on the Barroom Floor," which the author objected to (he was probably losing out on royalty payments, the poem being pirated). Taylor Holmes (mostly known as a silent film actor at the time) recorded this on October 27, 1923. From the book The Face Upon The Floor & Other Ballads by H. Antoine D'Arcy. 'Twas a balmy summer evening And a goodly crowd was there, That well nigh filled Joe's barroom At the corner of the square. As songs and witty stories Came through the open door, A vagabond crept slowly in And posed upon the floor. “Where did it come from?” someone said, “The wind has blown it in.” “Wha...
I wanted to do so much more with this but given the extremely short time this was completed in, I'm happy with it.
Here is a famous poem recited c.1915 by Taylor Holmes, an actor at the turn of the last century, and recorded to this 12" 78 rpm Victor label record. About 5 1/2 minutes worth of entertainment, just about the limit for this medium. Enjoy!

This is the first time I've ever animated with sand. We randomly got an hour and a half to play with it in class. This is just experimenting, but sand just looks so cool I thought I'd share it. The beginning is blurry, but again it was all just experimentation.
A rather depressing recitation by Taylor Holmes c.1915, over 5 minutes worth recorded to a 12" 78 rpm Victor label record. Taylor Holmes was a popular vaudeville and stage actor and even lasted through the silent film era to sound movies. Enjoy!
This is the demo from my first 3d Modeling and Animation class at Anne Arundel Community College. Pretty good for one semester but LOTS more to be done. Enjoy.

The film was written by Carl Dudley and Philip MacDonald. The storyline involves Dr. Ralph Harrison, who resigns his government post in protest against the inhumane treatment being inflicted upon spaceship pilots. His colleague, Professor Nordstrom, develops an alternative: a robot that he names "Tobor" (the reverse anagram of "robot"[1]), which soon becomes a friend and playmate to Harrison's young son, "Gadge". Tobor is stolen by enemy agents, and only the two scientists' and Gadge's psychic link with the robot can save it from being reprogrammed and used for evil pur...
The Hound of the Baskervilles is a 1939 mystery film based on the novel The Hound of the Baskervilles by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. It was directed by Sidney Lanfield and produced by 20th Century Fox. It is the best-known cinematic adaptation of the book, and is often regarded as one of the better film versions of it.[1] The film stars Basil Rathbone as Sherlock Holmes, Nigel Bruce as Dr. Watson and Richard Greene as Henry Baskerville. Because the studio apparently had no idea that the film would be such a hit, and that Rathbone and Bruce would make many more Sherlock Holmes films and be forever linked with Holmes and Watson, top billing went to Richard Greene, who was the film's romantic lead. Rathbone was billed second. Wendy Barrie, who played Beryl Stapleton, the woman with whom Greene ...

The most hyped heavyweight fight of the early 1980s pitted champion Holmes against Cooney, the Great White Hope. The marketing campaign for the fight--devised by Don King--was racially charged, heavily so. And it worked--Holmes-Cooney turned out to be, at the time, the highest grossing boxing event in history.
Episode 2 of the 2003 HBO series "Legendary Nights" is about the 1982 fight between Larry Holmes and Gerry Cooney.
