Minneapolis (pronunciation: i/ˌmɪniːˈæpəlɪs/), nicknamed "City of Lakes" and the "Mill City", is the county seat of Hennepin County, the largest city in the state of Minnesota, and the 48th largest in the United States. Its name is attributed to the city's first schoolteacher, who combined mni, the Dakota word for water, and polis, the Greek word for city.
As of the 2010 Census, the population of the city of Minneapolis is 382,578. Minneapolis lies on both banks of the Mississippi River, just north of the river's confluence with the Minnesota River, and adjoins Saint Paul, the state's capital. Known as the Twin Cities, Minneapolis-Saint Paul is the 16th-largest metropolitan area in the U.S., with approximately 3.3 million residents. The city is abundantly rich in water, with over twenty lakes and wetlands, the Mississippi river, creeks and waterfalls, many connected by parkways in the Chain of Lakes and the Grand Rounds National Scenic Byway. Among cities of similar densities, Minneapolis has the most dedicated parkland. It was once the world's flour milling capital and a hub for timber, and today is the primary business center between Chicago and Seattle, with Minneapolis proper containing the fifth highest concentration of Fortune 500 companies. It has cultural organizations that draw creative people and audiences to the city for theater, visual art, writing, and music. The community's diverse population has a long tradition of charitable support through progressive public social programs and VOLAGs, as well as private and corporate philanthropy.

I've been waiting for you to come back since you left Minneapolis
Snow covers the street lamps and the windowsills
The buildings and the brittle crooked trees
Dead leaves of December thin skinned and splintered
Never gotten used to this bitter winter
I've been wasted, angry and sad since you left Minneapolis
I wish my thoughts were pure like the driven snow
Like the Heavens and the spring's virgin buds
But they strangle me with their sin fill me up with poison
Black clouds have covered up the sun again
I can always trace it back to that night in Minneapolis
Here on the seventh floor in a room I can't call mine
Deadbolt on the door, do not disturb sign
Shaking and trembling on the clean white linen
Slivers of starlight across the ceiling
A dozen yellow roses all that's left in Minneapolis
I wish I'd never seen your face or heard your voice
You're a bad pain in my gut I wanna spit you out
Open up this wound again let my blood flow red and thin
Into the glistening, into the whiteness
hear the nightangles at dawn? another night that
i stayed up to get that song done
artifical light replaced the sun
so i turn the laptop on
just one more visit to the world wide web for dreamers
who the hell will be on anyway?
and there you are cute as ever
what a coincidence i thought until i checked your time
zone
and there you cute as ever
so this is minneapolis
the host of my world wide web
long time no see
long time no talk
(but) still you make me
wanna feel you right beside me
wanna travel through the lines you write
as if you fund a way to reappear when
ever you sense that i need you
come on book a flight and kiss me please
out to you
cos still you make me...
wanna feel you right beside me
I was at the jabberjaw
Cutest boy I ever saw
He was standing behind me
He was such a dream.
He kept looking right my way
I wanna see him every day
Randy told me where he lives
In minneapolis
Hung around till closing time
I wanna make him mine all mine
Told my friends I want to leave
But they embarrassed me
I took out my keys for my car
Walked down the street--not very far
He came running after me
He saw me at the entry
Minneapolis
Minneapolis
Minneapolis
Minneapolis
Minneapolis
Minneapolis
Minneap...
He said, 'i heard you ask about me'
And I responded 'yes' quietly
He said, 'i'm leaving on wednesday
Come see me when low plays'
So I went to see him again
He should be my new best friend
Running so romantically
Down the street for me.
So he said he'd write or call
'cause I'd be touring in the fall
He said he wanted me to move
But that just won't do
To minneapolis
Minneapolis
Minneapolis
Minneapolis
Minneapolis
Minneapolis
Minneapolis
Minneapolis
Minneapolis
I can't see, any good in me
just a cold heart full of hypocrisy.
I guess you could say i'm in need of a change
I guess you could say that I can't go on this way.
Day in day out, (day in day out) it's all the same.
They say "people never change"
and I'd like to believe that is not the case
it's just so hard to see the light
when all around me it's the darkest night I've ever seen.
but I will be the one to say
that everything will be okay
cause I know how it feels
to have nothing left to give.
