Duncanson McCann "Dick" Ebersol (
/ˈɛbərsɒl/; born July 28, 1947) is an American television executive and a senior adviser for NBC Universal Sports & Olympics. He had previously been the chairman of NBC Sports, producing large scale television events such as the Olympic Games and National Football League broadcasts.
Ebersol was born in Torrington, Connecticut, the son of Mary D. and Charles R. Ebersol, a former chairman of the American Cancer Society. Beginning in 1967, at the age of twenty, Ebersol began his long history with the Olympics when he temporarily dropped out of Yale University to join Roone Arledge and ABC Sports as television’s first-ever Olympic researcher.
In 1974, he joined NBC as Director of Weekend Late Night Programming. It was in 1975 that Ebersol and Lorne Michaels conceived and developed Saturday Night Live. Named as Vice President of Late Night Programming at age 28, Ebersol became NBC's first-ever vice president under the age of 30. After a brief departure, he returned to SNL in 1981 as executive producer and remained until 1985, spanning the Eddie Murphy and Billy Crystal eras.

Alan Stuart "Al" Franken (born May 21, 1951) is the junior United States Senator from Minnesota. He is a member of the Minnesota Democratic–Farmer–Labor Party, which affiliates with the national Democratic Party.
Franken achieved note as a writer and performer for the television show Saturday Night Live from its conception in 1975 before moving to writing and acting in films and television shows. He then became a political commentator, author of five books and host of a nationally syndicated radio show on the Air America Radio network.
In 2008, Franken narrowly defeated incumbent Republican Senator Norm Coleman, by 312 votes, after a mandatory statewide manual recount. Coleman contested the outcome in court, but the Minnesota Supreme Court unanimously upheld Franken's victory on June 30, 2009. Franken was sworn in to the Senate on July 7, 2009.
Franken was born in New York City. His mother, Phoebe G. (née Kunst), was a homemaker and real estate agent, and his father, Joseph P. Franken, was a printing salesman. The family later moved to St. Louis Park, a suburb near Minneapolis. Franken had a Jewish upbringing. His paternal grandparents were immigrants from Germany, and his mother's family was from Russia. His older brother Owen is a photojournalist; MSNBC's Bob Franken is his cousin. Franken graduated in 1969 from The Blake School, where he was on the wrestling team. He attended Harvard College and graduated with an A.B. cum laude in 1973 in political science.

David Michael Letterman (born April 12, 1947) is an American television host and comedian. He hosts the late night television talk show, Late Show with David Letterman, broadcast on CBS. Letterman has been a fixture on late night television since the 1982 debut of Late Night with David Letterman on NBC. Letterman recently surpassed friend and mentor Johnny Carson for having the longest late-night hosting career in the United States of America.
Letterman is also a television and film producer. His company Worldwide Pants produces his show as well as its network follow-up The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson. Worldwide Pants has also produced several prime-time comedies, the most successful of which was Everybody Loves Raymond, currently in syndication.
In 1996, David Letterman was ranked #45 on TV Guide's 50 Greatest TV Stars of All Time.
Letterman was born in Indianapolis, Indiana. His father, Harry Joseph Letterman (April 1915 – February 1973), was a florist of British descent; his mother Dorothy Letterman (née Hofert, now Dorothy Mengering), a Presbyterian church secretary of German descent, is an occasional figure on the show, usually at holidays and birthdays.

On Twitter: @AkiemBailum Mickey Mouse wearing Olympic medals?? In a move that came out of left field, longtime NBC Sports chairman Dick Ebersol has announced that he will be leaving NBC Sports this June. The reason why Ebersol is departing from NBC Sports is, reportedly, on account of a contract dispute between him and his new bosses in Philadelphia at Comcast. They of course, own a majority of NBC now. It's huge news in the realm of sports media. Ebersol has been at the helm of NBC Sports since 1989. What Ebersol has overseen as the head of NBC Sports has been enormous. He was a part of NBC's coverage of the NBA in the 90's and early 2000's including that iconic NBA on NBC theme. There was MLB and NFL coverage in the 90's as well. NBC recently got back in the NFL game by acquiring the Sunday Night Football rights from ESPN. ESPN, of course, got Monday Night Football in a lucrative deal with the Peacock that included, the acquisition of rights to Roger Rabbit of all things. Recently, NBC has been a huge cog in reigniting the NHL as a viable sports brand in the United States. It's the #2 to the NFL as #1. The greatest thing NBC Sports has done under the Ebersol Era was establish NBC as America's Olympic Network. '92 Barcelona, '96 Atlanta, '00 Sydney, '02 SLC, '04 Athens, '06 Torino, '08, Beijing, '10 Vancouver, and (soon to be) '12 London will all be broadcast by NBC. More so, than anything else, the Olympics were Ebersol's baby. With the buyout of NBC by Comcast, NBC Sports is in real transition now. Mark Lazarus of Universal Sports has been tapped as the new head of the newly established NBC Sports Group in replacement of Ebersol. NBC's merger with Comcast gave NBC new sports properties to play with. It now has a minority stake in the MLB Network. Versus is expected to be rebranded as "NBC Sports" this summer or fall. The Golf Channel is now an NBC property along with the Comcast regional sports nets. To say that NBC Sports is in transition is an understatement with Philly now running the show at 30 Rock. The biggest sign of NBC Sports in transition seems to be Comcast's stance on the Olympics. This has triggered speculation that Ebersol could move to ESPN. Comcast is in the business of sports TV, clearly, only to make money. Ebersol was more interested in establishing NBC as The Olympic Network for the USA. With Ebersol gone, and Comcast transitioning the peacock away from the rings, ESPN/ABC could be the new American broadcaster of the Olympics beginning with the 2014 Winter Games in Sochi and the 2016 Summer Games in Rio. Those rights are expected to be announced in 3 weeks in Lausanne and IOC reportedly wants $4 billion + for the rights. This trumps the previous record for the 2010-Vancouver/2012-London package by 200%! Fox is also bidding, but has a comparably weak bid compared the one from Bristol. ESPN has said they'll air Olympic events live like the IOC has asked for. Bodenheimer, meet Rogge. Rogge..Bodenheimer. An irony of this is that Lazarus is named the new head of NBC Sports at the same time of the bidding process for the next 2 (or 4) Olympics post-London. Universal Sports, which he's currently a part of, could be sold to ESPN or merged into Versus once they become the NBC Sports Network later this year. CBS is in the process of making their own sports channel as a rival to ESPN. Fox could do the same. And in other Olympic news, there's something going around about pole dancing being added as an Olympic sport which is why I ended the video early. I had to train. Lol :-) Your Opinion...?

In the wake of her 'stepping on the toes' of powerful network executives and 'playing hardball' tactics with guest bookings, she found herself being pushed out of her job as Tonight Show Executive Producer and Jay's manager. Letterman, devastated by his being passed over, brought in superagent Mike Ovitz to negotiate on his behalf, resulting in his move to CBS.

Friday Night Videos was initially produced by Dick Ebersol. From 1974 until 1981, in his role as Director of Late Night Programming at NBC, he co-produced The Midnight Special with that series' creator Burt Sugarman. Ebersol departed from The Midnight Special in 1981 to take over as the executive producer at his co-creation with Lorne Michaels, Saturday Night Live. In a move that came out of left field, longtime NBC Sports chairman Dick Ebersol has announced that he will be leaving NBC Sports this June. The reason why Ebersol is departing from NBC Sports is, reportedly, on account of a contract dispute between him and his new bosses in Philadelphia at Comcast. They of course, own a majority of NBC now.
It's huge news in the realm of sports media. Ebersol has been at the helm of NBC Sports since 1989. What Ebersol has overseen as the head of NBC Sports has been enormous. He was a part of NBC's coverage of the NBA in the 90's and early 2000's including that iconic NBA on NBC theme. There was MLB and NFL coverage in the 90's as well.
NBC recently got back in the NFL game by acquiring the Sunday Night Football rights from ESPN. ESPN, of course, got Monday Night Football in a lucrative deal with the Peacock that included, the acquisition of rights to Roger Rabbit of all things.
Recently, NBC has been a huge cog in reigniting the NHL as a viable sports brand in the United States. It's the #2 to the NFL as #1.
The greatest thing NBC Sports has done under the Ebersol Era was establish NBC as America's Olympic Network. '92 Barcelona, '96 Atlanta, '00 Sydney, '02 SLC, '04 Athens, '06 Torino, '08, Beijing, '10 Vancouver, and (soon to be) '12 London will all be broadcast by NBC. More so, than anything else, the Olympics were Ebersol's baby.
With the buyout of NBC by Comcast, NBC Sports is in real transition now. Mark Lazarus of Universal Sports has been tapped as the new head of the newly established NBC Sports Group in replacement of Ebersol. NBC's merger with Comcast gave NBC new sports properties to play with. It now has a minority stake in the MLB Network. Versus is expected to be rebranded as "NBC Sports" this summer or fall. The Golf Channel is now an NBC property along with the Comcast regional sports nets. To say that NBC Sports is in transition is an understatement with Philly now running the show at 30 Rock.
The biggest sign of NBC Sports in transition seems to be Comcast's stance on the Olympics. This has triggered speculation that Ebersol could move to ESPN. Comcast is in the business of sports TV, clearly, only to make money. Ebersol was more interested in establishing NBC as The Olympic Network for the USA. With Ebersol gone, and Comcast transitioning the peacock away from the rings, ESPN/ABC could be the new American broadcaster of the Olympics beginning with the 2014 Winter Games in Sochi and the 2016 Summer Games in Rio. Those rights are expected to be announced in 3 weeks in Lausanne and IOC reportedly wants $4 billion + for the rights. This trumps the previous record for the 2010-Vancouver/2012-London package by 200%! Fox is also bidding, but has a comparably weak bid compared the one from Bristol. ESPN has said they'll air Olympic events live like the IOC has asked for.

An irony of this is that Lazarus is named the new head of NBC Sports at the same time of the bidding process for the next 2 (or 4) Olympics post-London.
Universal Sports, which he's currently a part of, could be sold to ESPN or merged into Versus once they become the NBC Sports Network later this year. CBS is in the process of making their own sports channel as a rival to ESPN. Fox could do the same.
And in other Olympic news, there's something going around about pole dancing being added as an Olympic sport which is why I ended the video early. I had to train. Lol :-)

From 1974 until 1981, in his role as Director of Late Night Programming at NBC, he co-produced The Midnight Special with that series' creator Burt Sugarman. Ebersol departed from The Midnight Special in 1981 to take over as the executive producer at his co-creation with Lorne Michaels, Saturday Night Live. Ebersol replaced Jean Doumanian, who had been promoted from associate producer when Michaels left to take a job at Paramount Pictures and who had dealt with various problems during her tenure, including an instance where Charles Rocket said the expletive "fuck" on air during a live broadcast which resulted in his termination.
While at SNL, Ebersol decided that he would attempt another Friday night music-based program and his idea grew into what would become Friday Night Videos, which would replace SCTV on NBC's weekend late-night lineup in 1983.[2]
In its early years, MTV was still a phenomenon that only a minority of Americans actually could see in their homes, as there were many areas not yet serviced by cable television, and not all cable television providers offered MTV at first. Friday Night Videos took advantage of that fact and proved to be the next best thing for many viewers. While it primarily showcased music videos by popular top 40 acts of the day, unlike its cable rival, Friday Night Videos tended to offer more variety; featuring artists from the genres of pop, rock, R&B;, and rap.
In the beginning, like its predecessor The Midnight Special, the show ran 90 minutes long, and consisted of music videos introduced by an off-camera announcer. In addition to this, classic artists of the 1960s and 1970s occasionally appeared in "Hall of Fame Videos", major stars were profiled in "Private Reels", and new clips made their network debuts as "World Premiere Videos".
The most popular feature was "Video Vote". Two videos were played back-to-back, and viewers across the country, with the exception of the West Coast, could call in and vote for one of them, using nationwide 900 numbers for a small per-call fee. The winning video faced a new challenger the following week. When a video won four consecutive video votes, it was deemed a "retired champion" and two new videos were introduced the week after to start over. To increase the number of voters, they started to offer free T-shirts every fifteen seconds during the time of the voting when they called to register their votes.

For the show's first few years on the air, the audio portion of the show was presented as a stereo simulcast over FM radio. This arrangement continued until NBC officially switched over to the MTS standard for broadcast stereo audio. From that point on, the show was broadcast in stereo.
In 1987, the show was cut from 90 minutes to an hour, and its starting time was moved back from 12:30 a.m./ET to 1:30 a.m., as a result of Late Night with David Letterman, which had become a major ratings hit by that point, adding another Friday broadcast at 12:30.
In early 1990, NBC sporadically ran a Saturday morning edition of FNV for viewers who missed the show hours earlier because of its late night timeslot. (These episodes, however, were usually not repeats of the new episode that just aired earlier in the AM but instead tended to be a compilation of past guest hosts.) That fall, the network premiered a clone show on the Saturday morning line up named Saturday Morning Videos, which followed Saved by the Bell and was basically a campier version of FNV that targeted the lead-in teenage audience. It was cancelled in 1992.
In late 1990, much like what was occurring gradually on MTV, FNV began to move away from an all-video format. Regular bumper segments were added, featuring various comedians.

After countless break ups, one would think Britney Spears could probably smell a toxic boyfriend from 1000 miles away but her new man of 3 weeks, Charlie Ebersol, son of SNL co-founder Dick Ebersol, has been condemned by talk show host Wendy Williams as "an opportunist."
Wendy expressed her thoughts about the 32-year-old pop princess' new found love during an interview with HuffPost Live on Monday, Nov. 10. Apparently Britney hooked up with Charlie just 2 months after publicly breaking up with her ex boyfriend Dave Lucado and then Instagrammed them both days after confirmation.
50-year-old Wendy told host, Marc Lamont Hill: "People were saying it's too soon... Britney's been with him for three weeks. I'm chalking this up to her being a girl, soft and pink."
Relating herself to the “Toxic” hit-maker, Wendy adviced that if the pop star want to enjoy her relationship, she should keep it far away from social media. But for the fact that Charlie posted their selfie on his Instagram page, Wendy said:
”Here's what I thought - it's not just about Britney putting it up [the selfie]. Charlie put it up also! Excuse me! I smell an opportunist."
"She needs to grow up and perhaps think twice about stuff like that, because she's got kids," the former radio DJ said of the mom of two sons, Jayden and Sean. "When I was 34, I was still able to make stupid decisions and things....”

After countless break ups, one would think Britney Spears could probably smell a toxic boyfriend from 1000 miles away but her new man of 3 weeks, Charlie Ebersol, son of SNL co-founder Dick Ebersol, has been condemned by talk show host Wendy Williams as "an opportunist."
Wendy expressed her thoughts about the 32-year-old pop princess' new found love during an interview with HuffPost Live on Monday, Nov. 10. Apparently Britney hooked up with Charlie just 2 months after publicly breaking up with her ex boyfriend Dave Lucado and then Instagrammed them both days after confirmation.
50-year-old Wendy told host, Marc Lamont Hill: "People were saying it's too soon... Britney's been with him for three weeks. I'm chalking this up to her being a girl, soft and pink."
Relating herself to the “Toxic” hit-maker, Wendy adviced that if the pop star want to enjoy her relationship, she should keep it far away from social media. But for the fact that Charlie posted their selfie on his Instagram page, Wendy said:
”Here's what I thought - it's not just about Britney putting it up [the selfie]. Charlie put it up also! Excuse me! I smell an opportunist."
"She needs to grow up and perhaps think twice about stuff like that, because she's got kids," the former radio DJ said of the mom of two sons, Jayden and Sean. "When I was 34, I was still able to make stupid decisions and things....”
