Chuck is a killer who picks up innocent hitchhikers and murders them, leaving their bodies on the side of the highway like road kill. Rayne is a hitchhiking serial killer, who slaughters those that pick her up. When these two meet up, sparks fly, worlds collide...people die. Their initial encounter leaves Chuck with a serious limp and Rayne nearly unconscious. She is almost run over by Rebecca, a young girl on a cross-country trek to get back home. Believing Rayne to have been in an accident, Rebecca offers to help. Rayne accepts the ride, but refuses the help before passing out in Rebecca's car. Meanwhile, infuriated that she's stealing his thunder, Chuck begins pursuing Rayne, unaware that Rebecca has taken her in. At first too weak to act out her homicidal tendencies, Rayne becomes Rebecca's fellow traveler, and learns the reasons for her journey. Rayne finds herself torn between wanting to add Rebecca to her death list and becoming her mentor. Hot on her trail, Chuck unleashes a path of destruction, killing anyone who gets in his way and one ill-fated victim who had the unfortunate luck of resembling Rayne. Frustrated by her feelings for Rebecca, Rayne takes it out on a few hapless victims of her own, all the while keeping her true nature a secret from her road partner. When Rebecca offers to take Rayne home and begin a new life together, Rayne finds herself tempted. They say dead men tell no tales, but unfortunately one of Rayne's victims does. A news report about a recent murder shows a picture of the deceased, and Rebecca recognizes the man as someone who had antagonized them earlier. Faced with the truth and unable to handle it, Rebecca leaves but is kidnapped by Chuck, who has finally caught up to them. Chuck calls Rayne and using Rebecca as bait, challenges her to a showdown to determine just whom the road belongs to. The battle that ensues is one for the ages, a blood fest that will leave all three of them changed forever.

A cookie company takeover has employees scrambling to make a case for continued employment. An executive's administrative assistant takes paternity leave, and he gets a temp who is too good to be true, doing tasks at a fast pace and doing quite a bit of creative work for the project. The executive starts noticing that all the obstacles to his climb up the corporate ladder are disappearing, including the death of some of his rivals. When his regular admin returns to work, his temp, who has made it clear that she wishes to stay with him, begins her own accelerated climb up the ladder, and he begins wondering if she was responsible for the removal of the obstacles.

But an unlikely tool helped save the day. Tonight, their strange survival story. And what you need to know if it happens to you. ABC's chief meteorologist ginger zee surrendered herself to the surf. Reporter: A nantucket summer vacation in the water turns from fun to fearful in mere seconds. Come on! I can't! Reporter: Derrick Johns and his 16-year-old daughter Erin Johns seen holding a selfie stick with a go pro camera. They're pulled in and overcome by a powerful rip current. I said to Erin, start swimming. Then we really felt the current. At that point -- That's when I was like, I can't. And he grabbed me by the go prostick and started dragging me. At that point I was totally lost. I turned around and we were so far from the shore. And I looked at my dad and I was like, I don't know what to do. He told me I knew to swim. I used all my energy and I could not swim against that current. Reporter: The force dragging them under water and away from shore. Erin still holding that selfie stick. The camera still rolling. I was actually using it as balance. I guess it was the longest thing and I was the farthest out to begin with. I was trying to throw to it my dad so that he could grab me and pull me in. The wrist band did save my life. Without the wrist band I wouldn't have been able to throw the stick to my dad. Reporter: Other beachgoers racing to their aid. Erynn's mother rushing to her from the shore, actually grabbing that same selfie stick and using it to pull her daughter back toward rescuers. Derek, former marine, seen being pulled to safety by this mysterious hero in the Orange bathing suit. Then collapsing from exhaustion before nearby lifeguards took over. I was pretty much tapped. Physically. I really had maybe 20 or 30 seconds left. And no one was around me. And I went under twice. And I was a noodle. I had no energy or life left in me at that point. Reporter: Rip currents are one of the ocean's deadliest killers. Accounting for 80% of ocean rescues every year. In fact, nearly 100 people drown in the U.S. Every year as a result of rip currents. They can form when water piles up close to shore, held back from escaping by an underwater sand bar. But then when a break in the sand barrow curse, the fast-moving river of water rushes back out to sea, carrying along anyone caught in its current. Kind of like a river pulling out to sea. The strongest swimmer does not match up to the power of the ocean. There we go. Reporter: I experienced firsthand how quickly you can get caught up in a rip current. Surrounded by San Diego lifeguards on the ground and above, a coast guard chopper monitoring everything. Within seconds, I'm sucked out to sea. Now I am really in the current. Reporter: I've been pulled hundreds of yards in less than a minute. Look how far I am from the beach. People end up swimming, all they do is look straight out. When you turn around, all of a sudden, you're hundreds of yards from where you started. And that happened in seconds. So my instinct is to swim directly where I came from. But then I'm going to have to go against the current. Reporter: It's what most people do. And that is a mistake. My swimming is very labored. It's definitely not easy. I made absolutely no progress. Reporter: Then wave after wave and panic sets in. People look at where they started and that's where they want to swim to. "Thank God [Tommy Vach] was there," Derrick Johns said with a laugh today. "And thank God we pulled next to him on the beach." Selfie Stick, Mystery Man Credited After Rip Current Sweeps Family Away Beware Rip Currents on the Beach This Summer Derrick Johns, a former Marine from Texas, was at Surfside Beach in Nantucket Tuesday with his wife, two daughters and other family members when a rip current swept him and his 16-year-old daughter, Erynn, far from the shoreline. "I said to Erynn, 'Start swimming,'" Derrick Johns said today. "And then we really felt the current at that point." Erynn Johns, who was clutching an underwater camera with a selfie stick attached, struggled to keep her head above the water. Their harrowing journey was captured on video as both father and daughter held on to the selfie stick. But then Derrick Johns lost his grip. "At that point, I was totally lost. I just turned around and we were so far from the shore. ... He just told me I needed to swim," Erynn Johns said today. "I used all my energy and I could not swim against that current." The two signaled to Derrick Johns' wife that they were in trouble and she rushed in. With the help of lifeguards and Good Samaritans, including Vach, she was able to reach and pull her to the beach. In the meantime, Derrick Johns said today that he could feel himself tiring. "When I saw the lifeguards get my wife and Tommy get to Erynn, I really had maybe 20 or 30 seconds life [in me,]" he said today. "No one was around me. I went under twice and then I came up and I saw Tommy." Vach, who was on the beach and sitting close to the Johnses, said at first he and a friend thought the family was playing in the water but then he got closer to the shoreline. "They were screaming for help," he said. Vach and lifeguards first helped Erynn Johns and her mother and then set out to get Derrick Johns back to the beach. "I could tell that [Derrick] was physically exhausted,” Vach said. "Eventually we got him to the beach and we rested him and he responded. ... It was a little scary to see his face like that. He was a little scared." Vach said that today was his first opportunity to meet and talk to the Johnses because both father and daughter had been taken to the hospital immediately after their ordeal to get checked out. "A lot of people would've done the same thing that I did," Vach said. "I was glad I was there, in the right spot to help out." Vach said he hoped their story was a lesson to other beachgoers. "Riptides are very serious and the ocean is always in control," he said. "It's a pretty forceful energy you have to deal with out there. … You never know how dangerous a riptide can be until you’re actually in one."

"Thank God [Tommy Vach] was there," Derrick Johns said with a laugh today. "And thank God we pulled next to him on the beach." Derrick Johns, a former Marine from Texas, was at Surfside Beach in Nantucket Tuesday with his wife, two daughters and other family members when a rip current swept him and his 16-year-old daughter, Erynn, far from the shoreline. "I said to Erynn, 'Start swimming,'" Derrick Johns said today. "And then we really felt the current at that point." Erynn Johns, who was clutching an underwater camera with a selfie stick attached, struggled to keep her head above the water. Their harrowing journey was captured on video as both father and daughter held on to the selfie stick. But then Derrick Johns lost his grip. "At that point, I was totally lost. I just turned around and we were so far from the shore. ... He just told me I needed to swim," Erynn Johns said today. "I used all my energy and I could not swim against that current." The two signaled to Derrick Johns' wife that they were in trouble and she rushed in. With the help of lifeguards and Good Samaritans, including Vach, she was able to reach and pull her to the beach. In the meantime, Derrick Johns said today that he could feel himself tiring. "When I saw the lifeguards get my wife and Tommy get to Erynn, I really had maybe 20 or 30 seconds life [in me,]" he said today. "No one was around me. I went under twice and then I came up and I saw Tommy." Vach, who was on the beach and sitting close to the Johnses, said at first he and a friend thought the family was playing in the water but then he got closer to the shoreline. "They were screaming for help," he said. Vach and lifeguards first helped Erynn Johns and her mother and then set out to get Derrick Johns back to the beach. "I could tell that [Derrick] was physically exhausted,” Vach said. "Eventually we got him to the beach and we rested him and he responded. ... It was a little scary to see his face like that. He was a little scared." Vach said that today was his first opportunity to meet and talk to the Johnses because both father and daughter had been taken to the hospital immediately after their ordeal to get checked out. "A lot of people would've done the same thing that I did," Vach said. "I was glad I was there, in the right spot to help out." Vach said he hoped their story was a lesson to other beachgoers. "Riptides are very serious and the ocean is always in control," he said. "It's a pretty forceful energy you have to deal with out there. … You never know how dangerous a riptide can be until you’re actually in one."

The camera is almost 10x smaller now, and to avoid saturation it uses electronics rather than a mechanical shutter. Because of their compact size, the new cameras can be readily deployed at a solar power plant, where can measure the height of the clouds using triangulation techniques.
