For the 2016 Marching Season, the OMHS Spirit of Cahaba Marching Band performed "Red Sky at Night - Sailor's Delight". The show featured music from Russian Sailor's Dance, Legend of the One Eyed Sailor, and Themes from Pirates of the Caribbean. The Spirit of Cahaba participated in two marching competitions this season. On September 24, 2016 at the Sparks in the Park Marching Contest in Birmingham, AL. The band earned Superior Ratings in all Captions with Best in Class 4A Drum Major and Percussion along with Best 3A/4A Band and was named the Grand Champion. The video featured here is from October 1, 2016 at the Lake Martin Invitational Marching Contest in Alexander City, AL. OMHS earned Superior Ratings in all Captions along with Best in Open Class Drum Major, Percussion, Color Guard, Dance Line, and Band. Additionally, from all the 26 bands at the Contest, Oak Mountain earned Best High Brass, Best Low Brass, Best Woodwinds, the Highest Marching Score, the Highest Music Score and Most Entertaining Band! Congratulations to all the students, directors, staff, and the entire band booster organization for their hard work, dedication, and support! Hope you enjoy this performance from an outstanding and memorable evening and culmination of the 2016 Marching Competition Season! Please share and like and we welcome your clean and constructive comments!

School band
A school band is a group of student musicians who rehearse and perform instrumental music together. A concert band is usually under the direction of one or more conductors (band directors). A school band consists of woodwind instruments, brass instruments and percussion instruments, although upper level bands may also have string basses or bass guitar.
School bands tend to be more common in the United States. School bands in the United Kingdom are generally similar to those in the US although pure brass bands are more commonplace in schools than in the US. Some countries usually prefer certain special types of bands, usually drums, over conventional ones. The school band movement in Japan is unusually strong, organized around an enormous competition system administered by the All-Japan Band Association. Many international observers of Japanese school bands consider them to be the most impressive in the world, particularly among very young students, and Japan is also home to one of the world's leading professional concert bands, the Tokyo Kosei Wind Orchestra.

For the 2016 Marching Season, the OMHS Spirit of Cahaba Marching Band performed "Red Sky at Night - Sailor's Delight". The show featured music from Russian Sailor's Dance, Legend of the One Eyed Sailor, and Themes from Pirates of the Caribbean. The Spirit of Cahaba participated in two marching competitions this season. On September 24, 2016 at the Sparks in the Park Marching Contest in Birmingham, AL. The band earned Superior Ratings in all Captions with Best in Class 4A Drum Major and Percussion along with Best 3A/4A Band and was named the Grand Champion. The video featured here is from October 1, 2016 at the Lake Martin Invitational Marching Contest in Alexander City, AL. OMHS earned Superior Ratings in all Captions along with Best in Open Class Drum Major, Percussion, Color Guard, Dance Line, and Band. Additionally, from all the 26 bands at the Contest, Oak Mountain earned Best High Brass, Best Low Brass, Best Woodwinds, the Highest Marching Score, the Highest Music Score and Most Entertaining Band! Congratulations to all the students, directors, staff, and the entire band booster organization for their hard work, dedication, and support! Hope you enjoy this performance from an outstanding and memorable evening and culmination of the 2016 Marching Competition Season! The Tamana Girls High School Band from Tamana, Japan returns with their immense talent, enthusiasm, and high energy that have made them crowd favorites. This exceptional orchestra, comprised of approximately 70 students, spends countless hours rehearsing before and after school and on weekends to perfect their sound. This dedication has resulted in an award winning sound that rivals many professional bands. If you have never heard them, we know you will love them.
