Based on the Jan van Tonder novel with the same title. It tells the story of a 1966 railway community, told through the eyes of an eleven year old boy, called Timus. Timus and his family are trapped within the structural violence caused by the government and the church at the time. An unlikely hero, Joon, often appears to save Timus and these acts of kindness is seen by Timus as miracles. Timus tells the story of Joon and also his own coming of age and loss of innocence and how Joon tries to give a little of that lost innocence back to Timus. Nobody shares this point of view with Timus, Joon however goes on to save this whole community at the end. It is a story with unforgettable characters and it combines the magical world of childhood beautifully with the realistic world we live in.

Giant King Salmon, also known as massive Chinook Salmon, Huge Spring Salmon and sometimes just scary man-eating monsters but only when they get to gigantic sizes as showcased in this video. Chinook Salmon are 1 of 5 species of pacific salmon found off the west coast of Canada and the USA. They live the longest (up to 10years) and grow the largest (over 100 pounds). Where it used to be common practice to keep the big ones as trophies due to conservation it has now become the norm to release the larger fish to preserve diversity in the genetic pool. The chances of fish reaching large sizes are a lot less then the same fish reaching smaller sizes as they are up against no shortage of challenges. Unfortunately sometimes during the hook up and the fight the fish can get injured to the point where it would likely die anyways in which case food is the other alternative. http://www.captainquinn.com

BBC Nature s Great Events - Episode 04 (The Great Salmon Run 2009)

The subject of the second programme is the annual salmon run on the west coast of North America. Hundreds of millions of Pacific salmon return to the mountain streams in which they were born, where they will spawn and then die. Their passage upstream is fraught with danger, from rapids, waterfalls and hungry grizzly bears. The programme begins at the arrival of spring, with a grizzly mother leading her cubs down from their winter den in the Alaskan mountains. The bears congregate in the forested valleys, where they forage for whatever food they can find. Survival is tough for all, as shown by a pack of hungry wolves attacking an adult grizzly. It is not until July that the salmon arrive in great numbers. Other predators join the feast, including Orcas, Stellar sea Lions, Salmon sharks and the Bald headed Eagle. Those that make it past the bears risk becoming trapped in shallow reaches as the water level subsides. Relief comes as a summer storm replenishes the streams, triggered by moist ocean air rising over the coastal mountains. As they reach the spawning grounds, the salmon change body shape and colour in preparation for spawning. When it is over, the fish are close to exhaustion and they die en masse, providing an easy meal for birds and lingering bears. Their deaths are not in vain, for the nutrients from their decaying bodies help to fertilise the soil, sustaining the forests of tall pines. The diary piece, "Close Encounters of a Grizzly Kind", reveals how footage of the bears fishing using their feet was obtained.

At first I thought this was a tuna, but the color of the fish indicated it to be some other type of fish. Anyway, the quality of the fish was great. It was very sweet and soft (tasty even without soy sauce or wasabi. The fisherman was really showing off some skill when he "dissected" the fish.

Dika sebenarnya kurang setuju dengan rencana ibunya untuk pindah, namun Dika tetap membantu untuk mencarikan rumah yang baru buat mereka. Satu persatu rumah mereka datangi, semuanya tidak ada yang cocok. Ada rumah yang jelek sekali, ada rumah yang disana ada kuburannya dan bekas orang gantung diri. Semua itu menjadi pengalaman yang lucu bagi ibu dan anak ini. Sampai akhirnya mereka menemukan sebuah rumah yang bagi sang ibu adalah rumah yang sempurna.Di saat itu juga Dika bertemu dengan seorang cewek cantik bernama Patricia (Kimberly Rider) dan mulai pedekate. Masalah mulai muncul ketika sudah pindah rumah, karena Dika tidak menyukai rumah barunya. Kenangan akan rumah lamanya masih membekas. Sementara itu, hubungan Dika dengan Patricia juga terganggu, karena bayang-bayang Jessica selalu muncul tanpa dia sadari. Hal menggelikan terjadi ketika Dika mendapatkan supir (Insan Nur Akbar) yang bau badan, dan menyebabkan Dika mengalami dilema untuk memecatnya atau mengorbankan paru-parunya. Adik Dika, Edgar (Griff Pradapa), juga bersiap untuk ujian nasional dengan cara-cara yang aneh. Kelakuan bapaknya yang ingin dekat dengannya, tapi melalui cara yang mengesalkan Dika, juga membuat momen tersebut jadi komedi yang mengharukan. Dika pada akhirnya menyadari bahwa perjalanannya untuk pindah rumah, juga merupakan perjalanan dia untuk berpindah dari hal-hal yang selama ini menahan dia untuk tumbuh menuju kedewasaan.
