Twitter for Good

We created the Twitter platform to foster communication on a global scale, because we believe the open exchange of information can be a compelling force for good in the world.

Our philanthropy mission is to reflect and augment the positive power of our platform through civic engagement, employee volunteerism, charitable contributions and in-kind donations. In these ways, Twitter can foster greater understanding, equality and opportunity in the cities and countries where we operate.

Twitter employees are involved in a broad variety of philanthropic causes and initiatives. In terms of corporate support, we focus our efforts to provide meaningful impact in the these areas:

Internet safety and education

We want to help educate youth about healthy digital citizenship and online safety. We support organizations that tackle online safety issues such as bullying, abuse and hate speech.

Women in tech

We support efforts that provide women of all ages with mentoring and equal opportunities in programs in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) and computer science.

Digital rights and responsibilities

We support organizations and initiatives that defend and respect the user’s voice and digital rights by promoting freedom of expression and defending civil liberties.

Universal access and adoption

We support technological literacy initiatives and technology access programs in the countries we serve. We seek to overcome the digital divide by promoting widespread access, adoption and use of the internet.

Crisis and emergency response

When emergencies or natural disasters strike, we offer tools and programs that help people around the world with communication tools and humanitarian response mechanisms.

San Francisco initiatives

Twitter’s hometown is San Francisco and we’re committed to supporting local organizations that strengthen our community.

OUR PROGRAMS / SUPPORTING OUR COMMUNITIES

#FoodforGood

#FoodforGood is a serving station at Twitter HQ. Employees can purchase food items and 100% of the proceeds benefit an organization in our San Francisco neighborhood.

#FridayForGood

Several times a year, our entire company participates in a day of service where employees around the world partner with local nonprofit organizations. Here are highlights from our most recent #FridayforGood.

NeighborNest

The Twitter NeighborNest will provide clients of our community-based partners with access to computer technology, education and training. It’s located across the street from HQ and opens in summer 2015.

Ads for Good

Our Ads for Good program offers non-profits a way to leverage the power of the Twitter advertising platform to amplify your message. This program is by invitation only.

Our heart is in San Francisco

It’s the city where we began, and home to the largest number of our employees.
For these reasons, we strive to stay attuned to a host of local issues and our neighborhood’s greatest needs.

The above map highlights a selection of the organizations we support in San Francisco. See our full list of SF partner organizations below.

We work closely with the City Administrator’s Office on our Community Benefit Agreement (CBA), which guides many of our local social responsibility efforts as a company. These community outreach activities supplement our philanthropic five areas of focus outlined above, and speak to the rich cultural diversity and voices of San Francisco.

Through volunteer involvement and various types of support, we work to make a difference in critical community needs such as homelessness, housing advocacy, youth education, workforce development and physical neighborhood improvements.
