President Pratibha Patil visited Seychelles in 2012, but this will be the first prime ministerial visit to this country of pristine beauty after a gap of more than three decades. Prime Minister’s Modi trip will underline the growing importance of the Indian Ocean blue economy in the country’s foreign policy matrix and Seychelles’ unique place in this configuration. Bolstering defence and maritime security cooperation will be high on the agenda. Given the proliferation of pirates in the region, India has been proactive in strengthening the capacity of the Seychelles Peoples’ Defence Forces (SPDF). In 2014, India gifted a naval ship, INS Tarasa, to Seychelles to augment surveillance and patrolling capacity of Seychelles waters. Senior officers of SPDF have trained in India’s military academies. Moving beyond defence, it’s in the areas of development and capacity building that the India-Seychelles partnership shines forth. Besides extending Lines of Credit and providing Seychelles officials training under the ITEC programme, India has been involved with a host of projects in the island country, including the India-assisted IT Centre for Excellence. Victoria Hospital in Seychelles is linked with major hospitals in India under PAN -African satellite tele-medicine system. In the area of business, a host of Indian companies are keeping the flag of Indian enterprise flying high. TATA has become a household name, with its buses plying to other regions of Mahé Island. Ashok Leyland’s state-of-the-art buses and Bharti Airtel launch of 4G mobile network are unfolding stories of Indian corporate’s success in the island country. Culturally, the Indian diaspora, which comprises 8 per cent of the island nation’s population, remains the flag-bearer of Indian traditions and values. Be it Holi, Diwali or Dusshera, you can always bank on people of Seychelles to have a good time and celebrate the enduring bonds with India.

Modi flew in to the Seychelles' capital by a special Air India plane after nearly six-hour flight. Modi, the first Indian Prime Minister to travel to Seychelles in 33 years, said his visit to the three Indian Ocean island countries "reflects our foreign policy priorities in India's immediate and extended neighbourhood". "India's relationship with Seychelles has been built on the foundation of mutual trust and shared values...I am keenly looking forward to my meeting with President James Michel, a great friend of India," he had said in a pre-departure statement. Modi is accompanied by National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and Foreign Secretary S Jaishankar. After Seychelles, the Prime Minister would visit Mauritius on March 11-12. He will undertake his visit to Lanka on March 13-14. Modi said that India "attaches paramount importance to strengthening relations with this region, which is vital for India's security and progress". As his visit to the three island countries comes against the backdrop of China's increasing focus on the Indian Ocean region, Modi is expected to renew the country's commitment to the ocean economies where India envisages its role as a net security provider. Modi, who will also be the first Indian Prime Minister to travel to Sri Lanka in 28 years, is expected to tap into the "substantive" goodwill and historical linkages between India and the three Indian Ocean economies which offer new possibilities of cooperation in defence and economic spheres. The Prime Minister also said that India had strong, multifaceted and important relationship with each of the three countries he is visiting, observing,"they all occupy a very important place in our foreign policy." After Seychelles, the Prime Minister would visit Mauritius where he will be the Chief Guest at the Independence Day celebrations on March 12, a date he called special to all Indians because Mahatma Gandhi began his Dandi March on the same date in 1930. He will then proceed to Mauritius for a two-day visit. During his stay, he will hold extensive talks with his Mauritian counterpart Sir Anerood Jugnauth to further enhance bilateral relations. Prime Minister Modi will also be the Chief Guest at the Mauritius's 42nd National Day celebrations. He is further scheduled to address the National Assembly of the country. After Mauritius, Prime Minister Modi will be in Sri Lanka on Friday, where he will hold meetings with Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and other senior leaders across the political spectrum. During the visit, several MoUs and agreements are expected to be signed between the two nations in different fields. Prime Minister Modi will visit Mahabodhi society and the Mahabodhi Tree in Anuradhapura. The Prime Minister is also likely to visit the former war zone and the Tamil heartland of Jaffna where he will hand over houses to the internally displaced people in Jaffna, which were built by the Indian cooperation.

China’s forays into the Indian Ocean have sparked concern in New Delhi, prompting Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to strengthen India’s relationship with four nearby island nations. India is sending a 1,300-tonne patrol vessel, the Barracuda, to Mauritius on March 12 and plans to send an additional 13 vessels within the next year. India will also fit all four islands with surveillance radars and ocean mapping capabilities. India has increased the foreign investment cap in its domestic defense industry to 49 percent from 26 percent and increased defense spending by 12 percent over last year to 2.29 trillion Indian rupees ($38.35 billion) for 2014-15. With the new budget, India plans to construct four warships in Mumbai and three in Kolkata, along with six nuclear-powered submarines. As part of an effort to expand India’s sphere of influence into Southeast Asia, New Delhi also has plans to send two patrol vessel to Sri Lanka, two frigates to the Philippines and 10 patrol vessels to Vietnam. China’s military has expanded its geographical reach in Asia over the past several years. India has increased the foreign investment cap in its domestic defense industry to 49 percent from 26 percent and increased defense spending by 12 percent over last year to 2.29 trillion Indian rupees ($38.35 billion) for 2014-15. With the new budget, India plans to construct four warships in Mumbai and three in Kolkata, along with six nuclear-powered submarines. As part of an effort to expand India’s sphere of influence into Southeast Asia, New Delhi also has plans to send two patrol vessel to Sri Lanka, two frigates to the Philippines and 10 patrol vessels to Vietnam. Hi Guys Well, after the mishap of my outbound flight to Las Vegas aboard Edelweiss I decided to show you the excellent and very satisfying service and IFE of Edelweiss Airlines as my latest trip report! For those who have not seen the outbound flight yet I suggest you watch the other review first, so you’ll get so see what went wrong on the ZRH-LAS leg. For those who have seen it get to see how Edelweiss is if everything is working. After a quick ride and easy check-in I find myself aboard Edelweiss A330-200, an aircraft which recently has been totally refurbished with all new Business Class, Economy Max and Economy, new seats with a state-of-the-art entertainment system. Refusing to work on my outbound flight, now perfectly doing its job, the IFE convinced me with a really sensitive touchscreen and very fast working system. But have a look yourself in the review. The food aboard was of great quality, as always with Edelweiss, and the quantity was good too. Being a leisure airlines someone would not expect such great service. I totally recommend flying edelweiss, but best if you book through SWISS, because that way you get to earn miles. If you book through edelweiss, no miles credited to your account!!! Hey guys! Return flight from my Florida vacation last october. Other then on the outbound flight we were lucky this time and got the new TAP economy cabin, with all new seats and IFE. You can see the old cabin in my other video from TAP, just have a look on my channel. The flight itself was uneventful, a bit of turbulence in between but nothing spectacular happend. No one seems to know how come people in Seychelles love Country & Western music and how did it all start? There are many theories and folklore about the origin of Country music in Seychelles but none can be proven. All we know is that our nation has fallen in love with Country & Western music and what is more interesting is we have stayed very traditional and we still adore the old legends as though they were still with us. Well in our minds and in our hearts they are still with us. As a consequence of our love for C & W music we have grown some home talents and in this video you can see Angelique one of our up and coming Country stars perform one of Billie Jo Spear's songs " Blanket on the Ground" and she does it very well in deed. These videos are from Seychelles First Country & Western Jamboree that we staged last year in 2010 and this year we are going to repeat the success of last year by staging Seychelles' Second Country & Western Jamboree on 23 and 24 July. It would be a beautiful experience if you could come over and enjoy the show with us. We plan to hold Line Dancing competitions during the show so come and have great time in the Seychelles. Our hospitality will knock you down and you will not want to leave Seychelles. We are a very small nation of only 86,000 people and the Seychelles is made up of 110 beautiful islands scattered within 4 degrees South of the Equator. We enjoy very good sunshine all year round but from time to time we need water to drink so we have a little rain. In fact we are short of water. Jounen Kwéyòl Mix 2013 - DJ Socaholic Prodz (St Lucian Creole Music)

Jounen Kwéyòl (Creole Day) is a Saint Lucian festival that celebrates Creole culture. It is held on the last Sunday of October across the entire island, and has been held annually since 1984. On the Sunday of this week, the various towns chosen to host this festival put out the result of their grand preparations; local dishes and foods such as roast breadfruit, Green Fig and Salt Fish (The National Dish of St.Lucia), plantain, king fish, Manicou (opossum), Souse (a soup made with pork and often cucumber), fried bake and floats, Accra (a fried dough which contains salt fish), Paime (otherwise known as Conkies) and a famous dish known as Bouillon (fish, chicken or meat stewed with dasheen, yams, plantains, banana and dumplings) Also local drinks such as Cocoa Tea, Golden Apple Juice, Guava Juice and more. Apart from the food part, the event is collaborated with kweyol music some of which have been past down to and from many generations. The most widely used instrument besides vocals are the Tambos (drums) and are beaten throughout as people speak in the creole language and have a merry time. Most people commemorate this day by wearing the island's National Wear such as the Wob Dwiete. Persons who do not want to wear the extreme layers of skirts and dresses make clothing out of special plaid material called Madras which is one of the cloths used in the national wear. Seychelles is an island nation with 115 islands full of natural beauty. They are in two distinct groups including the Inner Island Group and the Outer Island Group. The 41 granitic Inner Islands cluster around the three principal islands of Praslin, La Digue and Mahe. There are also two coral islands in the Inner Island Group. They are Denis Island and Bird Island. Sailing around the Seychelles’ Inner Islands offers miles of scenic coastline with safe anchorages and over 65 beaches on Mahe alone as well as many secret coves and grottoes. The Outer Islands are 72 coral islands and form an arc towards Africa. The six distinct island groups in the Outer Islands are the Amirantes, the Alphonse Group, the Southern Coral Group, the Farquhar Group and Aldabra. They all lie between 260 and 865 miles from the east coast of Africa. As part of RGM's work for the Seychelles Tourism Board, we filmed and edited a suite of films, that included Sailing, Diving, Weddings and Honeymoons, and Flora and Fauna, with a 10 minute main film to encapsulate the beauty of the islands. Seychelles is an island nation with 115 islands full of natural beauty. They are in two distinct groups including the Inner Island Group and the Outer Island Group. They are Denis Island and Bird Island. The Outer Islands are 72 coral islands and form an arc towards Africa. Wild silkworms, not ‘diet controlled’ nor under close observation, the reeling in is not continuous and with multiple breaks the overall texture and strength of the silken fibres is affected. The Seychelles giant tortoise (Aldabrachelys hololissa) has been thought to be extinct since the mid-19th century due to overexploitation on the granitic Seychelles islands. Similar giant tortoise species on other Indian Ocean islands such as Mauritius, Réunion, and Rodrigues Island are also extinct. This species inhabited islands of the Seychelles group, where it thrived on vegetation on the edges of marshes and streams. By 1840, it had disappeared from the wild and was assumed to be extinct. As a grazing species, it somewhat resembled the Aldabra giant tortoise with its domed shape. In 1999, some Seychelles island tortoises (12 known individuals) were suggested to have survived in captivity. The report of oddly shaped captive tortoises prompted the Nature Protection Trust of Seychelles to examine the identity of the living tortoises. Examination of museum specimens of the "extinct" Seychelles species by Dr. Justin Gerlach and Laura Canning seemed to show some living tortoises possess characteristics of the extinct species. With DNA testing, tortoises of the "extinct" species were identified and were acquired by The Nature Protection Trust of Seychelles for conservation. They were brought to Silhouette Island, where the only breeding population exists.

When the going gets tough, the tough get going — and the rest of us conjure our ideal escape, dreaming of a remote island with crowd-free sands, bright blue waters and a tranquil aura. But when you're ready to turn that dream into a reality, set your sights on Seychelles, a cluster of 115 islands peppering the Indian Ocean off the eastern coast of Africa. You may have caught sight of the scenery here before: The seemingly endless white beaches, giant boulders and swaying palms are the stuff of postcards, television commercials and desktop backgrounds. And while you're lounging along these famous shorelines, it's likely that the only other life forms you'll encounter will be the islands' colorful birds and humongous tortoises. The Seychelles islands are often referred to in two separate groups. Most travelers limit their exploration to the 43 Inner Islands, basing themselves on one of the group's three main isles. Mahé is the largest, home to the Seychellois capital, Victoria, as well as the famed Anse Intendance beach. Praslin, the second largest of the primary islands, also boasts several acclaimed shorelines, not to mention the Vallée de Mai Nature Reserve. And then there's La Digue, a quiet island where bicycles reign supreme and the sands of Anse Source d'Argent beach remain unspoiled. Charter a private yacht further out to sea and you'll likely stumble across one of the 72 Outer Islands, low-lying, sandy cays ruled by wildlife. It doesn't get more remote than that. How To Save Money in Seychelles Visit in the off seasons Lodging and transport costs soar from May to September and in December and January. If you can plan a trip for April or November, you can save on travel expenses, especially if you plan several months in advance. Avoid the resorts Seychelles' big resorts will charge you an arm and a leg for a bed and a meal. You'll save some dough if you bunk down in one of the islands' smaller inns and dine at local restaurants. Stay put It's tempting to try to visit more than one of Seychelles' 115 islands, but you'll save on transportation costs by limiting yourself to just one. Many travelers choose to stay on Mahé or Praslin thanks to the islands' convenient bus systems, ample lodging options and numerous free beaches. Seychelles Culture & Customs Comprising 115 islands located off the eastern coast of Africa, the Republic of Seychelles (or simply Seychelles) was first settled by the French in 1770, who maintained ownership of the islands until 1814. Following the passage of the Treaty of Paris, Seychelles relinquished to Britain, which governed Seychelles until the archipelago achieved independence in 1976. In their short history as settled territory, the Seychelles islands have welcomed people of varying nationalities — European, of course, but also African and Asian — all of whom have left their imprint on Seychelles' culture. The island nation recognizes three official languages: English, French and French-based Seselwa Creole. Many Seychellois can also speak Italian or German, meaning there's no shortage of ways to communicate with islanders. You'll also recognize international influences in the islands' art and architecture; houses are reminiscent of Europe's Victorian era, seafood is prepared with hints of Asian and French cuisine, and Creole-style music and dance is infused with European, African and Malagasy melodies and movements. The price of most services — like hotel stays, taxi rides and meals at restaurants — already includes a 5 to 10 percent tip, although you're welcome to leave more if you wish. The official currency of the Seychelles islands is the Seychellois rupee (SCR), which is equal to about 6 American cents. However, credit cards and major currencies, such as the British pound, the euro and the U.S. dollar are all acceptable forms of payment. If you decide to use the Seychellois rupee throughout your stay, you'll find plenty of establishments that offer currency exchange services. But to avoid being scammed (or charged with a crime), only change your money at banks, hotel cashiers or the exchange bureau at Seychelles International Airport (SEZ). It is illegal to exchange currency with an unlicensed operator. Other than the occasional faux moneychanger, Seychelles is a relatively safe place to visit, though you should use common sense when it comes to your personal belongings and any late-night walkabouts. The sun actually poses the largest threat to unsuspecting visitors. Because of the Seychelles islands' location just south of the equator, you'll need to prepare yourself for powerful rays. New Delhi, Aug 20 (ANI): Communications and IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad, on Thursday announced India and Seychelles agreement to share tax data, which was approved by the cabinet. The agreement will facilitate exchange of financial information between the two countries and aid in curbing tax evasion and tax avoidance. Prasad seemed thrilled with payment bank license announcement as this would facilitate Department of Post (DoP) to offer banking services to the masses through its vast network of 1,54,000 post offices, of which 1,30,000 are in rural areas leading to financial inclusion. While, addressing the media he said that he is pained by the fact that Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar was thankless in lieu of the package announced for Bihar by BJP. He categorically stated that NDA is determined and persistent on tackling black money issues. On being asked about the NSA talks he mentioned the bilateral talks are focused on terror and with respect to sharing voice samples of 26/11 case was already decided at UFA.

NEW DELHI: President of the Seychelles James Alix Michel will arrive here on August 25 on a three-day visit during which he will hold talks with top Indian leadership to explore ways to ramp up bilateral ties. He will be accompanied by a high-level delegation which will include Minister of Foreign Affairs and Transport Joel Morgan and Minister of Finance, Trade and Blue Economy Jean-Paul Adam among others. Mr Michel's trip comes five months after Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited that country during which a number of agreements were signed to boost cooperation in a range of areas. It was first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to the country in 34 years. Mr Michel had earlier paid state visits to India in 2005 and 2010, apart from participating in the Delhi Sustainable Development Summits in 2011 and 2012. During this visit, he will have meetings with President Pranab Mukherjee and Modi. Mr Michel will deliver an address on 'Maritime Security for Blue Economy' at the Indian Council for World Affairs besides addressing a business event. He will also visit Mumbai where he will meet the Governor of Maharashtra and attend an event organised by Seychelles Tourism Board. India and Seychelles have close and friendly relations. As maritime neighbours, the partnership is anchored in the need for peace and prosperity in the Indian Ocean region. Development partnership, especially in the areas of capacity building and human resource development forms an important part of the engagement. The presence of a strong Indian community in Seychelles, comprising about 11 per cent of the total population, is another significant link between the two countries.
