Johnny Cash at the top of his game, right after his comeback with Rick Rubin. There are dozens of clips on Youtube, but to really get the feeling of a concert, I feel it's necessary to put up the whole thing.

For more info - http://www.eagle-rock.com/artist/johnny-cash/#.U-jkvDhwaB8 Johnny Cash, an American icon, is captured in this amazing performance from the 1994 Montreux Jazz Festival. Going through 19 of his classics, including a guest appearance from his wife June on "Jackson", Cash gives a history lesson of sorts. Love is a burning thing And it makes a fiery ring Bound by wild desire I fell into a ring of fire I fell into a burning ring of fire I went down, down, down and the flames went higher And it burns, burns, burns, the ring of fire The ring of fire I fell into a burning ring of fire I went down, down, down and the flames went higher And it burns, burns, burns, the ring of fire The ring of fire The taste of love is sweet When hearts like ours meet I fell for you like a child Oh, but the fire went wild I fell into a burning ring of fire I went down, down, down and the flames went higher And it burns, burns, burns, the ring of fire The ring of fire I fell into a burning ring of fire I went down, down, down and the flames went higher And it burns, burns, burns, the ring of fire The ring of fire And it burns, burns, burns, the ring of fire The ring of fire The ring of fire The ring of fire ...

n.b. the date of this. The incident at the Show in Flint, MI on Saturday 25th is not mentioned at all. At the show there he had dropped his guitar pick and stumbled as he tried to pick it up again; Bob Wotton noticed that he was about to fall down and stepped forward so that Cash could lean on him; Johnny Cash then told the audience that he was suffering from a terminal disease, and would have to take medication for it; with the help of June and the other members of the band the concert was finished early. At first only the local press dealt with Cash's anouncement of Parkinson's; some days later it was announced on CNN International. I bet they would have loved to keep it a secret. The whole thing originally had been a slip of the tongue. I suppose this is the true reason, why he is so nervous here.

Johnny Cash speaks on the subject of drug abuse and probably is referring to his time in the hospital after an accident in 1983 when he was attacked by an ostrich on his game farm. While in the hospital, he became dependent on pain killers. The history of Johnny's battle with drugs is detailed in the video documentary "The Gospel Music of Johnny Cash" which is available on YouTube in one of my Playlists or can be watched here: http://youtu.be/-VI7BE8UHZc This video clip is from the 1985 Billy Graham Crusade in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. Background music not in original, but added by me.

IMDb 2015-04-13John R. "Johnny" Cash (February 26, 1932 – September 12, 2003), was an American singer-songwriter, actor, and author, who has been called one of the most influential musicians of the 20th century. Although he is primarily remembered as a country music icon, his songs and sound spanned many other genres including rockabilly and rock and roll—especially early in his career—as well as blues, folk, and gospel. This crossover appeal led to Cash being inducted in the Country Music Hall of Fame, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and Gospel Music Hall of Fame.
Cash was known for his deep, distinctive bass-baritone voice; for the "boom-chicka-boom" sound of his Tennessee Three backing band; for his rebelliousness, coupled with an increasingly somber and humble demeanor; for providing free concerts inside prison walls; and for his dark performance clothing, which earned him the nickname "The Man in Black". He traditionally started his concerts by saying, "Hello, I'm Johnny Cash." and usually following it up with his standard "Folsom Prison Blues".
