A funeral was held in Gaza, Thursday, for the Palestinians who were killed after an unexploded Israeli military rocket left over from the 50-day attack on Gaza last summer, detonated, killing four and injuring 43.
Palestinian authorities stated that the rocket exploded as workers were removing rubble from a house, which was destroyed in Israel's assault on Gaza. The home, which was hit by an Israeli air strike on July 9 last year, belonged to a lecturer at the Islamic University of Gaza, Ayman Abu Naqira. Four members of the Abu Naqira family were killed in the blast.

A resolution that would have recognized the state of Palestine and called for an end to Israeli occupation was narrowly defeated in the UN Security Council on Tuesday night, falling just one vote short of passage. Eight countries voted to approve the measure, one short of needing a veto, which the US promised to use if needed to defeat the resolution. State of Palestine: Funeral held for victims of exploded Israeli rocket *GRAPHIC*

The U.N. Should Admit Palestine as a Full Member State-Intelligence Squared U.S.
On September 23, 2011, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas appeared before the U.N. General Assembly to request full membership for the State of Palestine. After 20 years of failed talks with Israel, can this plea to the international community be the only path left to a two-state solution, or have the Palestinians set the peace process back by bypassing negotiations?

BREAKING The Vatican Officially Recognizes State Of Palestine
VATICAN CITY (AP) — The Vatican has officially recognized the state of Palestine in a new treaty.
The treaty, which was finalized Wednesday but still has to be signed, makes clear that the Holy See has switched its diplomatic relations from the Palestinian Liberation Organization to the state of Palestine.
The Vatican had welcomed the decision by the U.N. General Assembly in 2012 to recognize a Palestinian state. But the treaty is the first legal document negotiated between the Holy See and the Palestinian state and constitutes an official recognition.
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas is due to see Pope Francis on Saturday before the canonization of two new saints from the Holy Land a day later.

State of Palestine: Clashes in Hebron after toddler killed in 'Israeli settler' arson attack
Clashes erupted between Palestinians and Israeli security forces in Hebron, as anger mounted over the killing of 18-month-old Ali Saad Dawabsha in an arson attack in the West Bank village of Duma, Friday. Israeli forces fired rounds of teargas and rubber bullets, while protesters threw rocks and stones.
Ali Saad Dawabsha death is being blamed on Israeli settlers after slogans written in Hebrew, including the word 'revenge', were found on the toddler’s burnt-out home. The Palestinian Authority stated that up to four assailants threw petrol bombs at a cluster of homes, one of which was empty. Dawabsha’s brothers and parents were also severely injured in the attack.

The destruction of the illegal Beit El buildings in the West Bank went ahead on Wednesday, despite the attempts by Israeli President Benjamin Netanyahu to halt the demolition.
The previous day hundreds of illegal Israeli settlers clashed with border police, who attempted to evict them from the so-called ‘Dreinof’ structure. Netanyahu opposed the demolition of the two buildings in the West Bank settlement of Beit Eil, which were erected on Palestinian private land, but the High Court upheld the decision to tear them down.

"French lawmakers on Tuesday urged their government to recognize Palestine, a symbolic move that will not immediately affect France's diplomatic stance but demonstrates growing European impatience with a stalled peace process.
While most developing countries recognize Palestine as a state, most Western European countries do not, supporting the Israeli and U.S. position that an independent Palestinian state should emerge from negotiations with Israel.
European countries have grown frustrated with Israel, which since the collapse of the latest U.S.-sponsored talks in April has pressed on with building settlements in territory the Palestinians want for their state."* The Young Turks hosts Cenk Uygur and John Iadarola (TYT University) break it down.

The Big Questions is a faith and ethics television programme usually presented by Nicky Campbell. It is broadcast live on aBBC One between 10:00am and 11:00am on Sunday, replacing The Heaven and Earth Show as the BBC's religious discussion programme.
Each week, panel and audience debate three ethical, moral or religious topics which featured in the week's news.
Panellists have included notable atheist Richard Dawkins, convert to Roman Catholicism Ann Widdecombe, Imam Ibrahim Mogra, Muslim commentator Mohammed Ansar, Scottish philosopher John Joseph Haldane, Bible scholar Francesca Stavrakopoulou, Lord Carey, Jonathan Bartley, Peter Hitchens, Alexander Goldberg, Ian McMillan, Andrew Pinsent, Stephen Lowe, Tommy Robinson, Michael Nazir-Ali, Samuel Westrop and Decca Aitkenhead.
VATICAN SIGNS TREATY WITH "STATE OF PALESTINE".
The Vatican signed a treaty with the "State of Palestine" on Friday, saying it hoped its legal recognition of the state would help stimulate peace with Israel and that the treaty itself would serve as a model for other Mideast countries.
Vatican Foreign Minister Paul Gallagher and his Palestinian counterpart, Riad al-Malki, signed the treaty at a ceremony inside the Vatican.
Israel expressed disappointment when the Vatican announced last month that it had reached final agreement with the "State of Palestine" on the treaty regulating the life of the Catholic Church in the Palestinian territories.
It repeated that regret in a Foreign Ministry statement Friday, saying the move hurt peace prospects and would discourage the Palestinians from returning to direct negotiations. It warned that it would study the agreement "and its implications for future cooperation between Israel and the Vatican."
Gallagher, though, said he hoped the Vatican's recognition "may in some way be a stimulus to bringing a definitive end to the long-standing Israeli-Palestinian conflict, which continues to cause suffering for both parties."
He said that he hoped the treaty could serve as a model for the church in other Mideast countries, where Christians are a minority and often persecuted.
The Vatican had welcomed the decision by the U.N. General Assembly in 2012 to recognize a Palestinian state and had referred to the Palestine state since. But the treaty marked its first legal recognition of the Palestinian territory as a state.

RT’s Reema Abu Hamdieh examines the politics behind the move.

State of Palestine: Funeral held for toddler killed in arson attack by 'Israeli settlers'
Hundreds of people gathered for the funeral of 18-month-old Ali Saad Dawabsha in the West Bank village of Duma, Friday, after the baby was killed in an arson attack on his home. The attack is being blamed on Israeli settlers after slogans written in Hebrew, including the word 'revenge', were found on the burnt-out building. The Palestinian Authority stated that up to four assailants threw petrol bombs at a cluster of homes, one of which was empty. Dawabsha’s brothers and parents were also severely injured in the attack.

Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter said there is no chance of seeing the two-state solution realized "at this moment," accusing Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of pursuing a one-state solution without equal rights for Palestinians.
“At this moment, there is zero chance of the two-state solution,” Carter, 90, told Prospect Magazine, in an interview published on Thursday.
Carter added that after the failure of the last negotiations between Israel and the Palestinians in 2014, brokered by Secretary of State John Kerry, the U.S. "has withdrawn" from the issue.

Carter said Netanyahu "does not now and has never sincerely believed in a two-state solution for Israel and Palestine,” and accused him of deciding "early on to adopt a one-state solution, but without giving them [the Palestinians] equal rights."
Carter, who served as president from 1977 to 1981, founded the Carter Center for peace and health, and is a member of The Elders Group, an independent group of global leaders who describe themselves as working together for peace and human rights.
Although he brokered the first Israeli-Arab peace treaty during his presidency, Carter outraged many Israelis with his 2006 book "Palestine: Peace Not Apartheid." He's also repeatedly reached out to Gaza's Islamic Hamas leaders, considered terrorists by much of the West.
In the interview, given shortly before Carter was diagnosed with cancer, he also voiced his support for the "superb" nuclear deal reached with Iran in July, and said he believes Democrats will support the deal in Congress.

Despite various wars and exoduses, roughly one half of the world's Palestinian population continues to reside in historic Palestine, the area encompassing the West Bank, the Gaza Strip and Israel. In this combined area, as of 2004, Palestinians constituted 49% of all inhabitants, encompassing the entire population of the Gaza Strip (1.6 million), the majority of the population of the West Bank (approximately 2.3 million versus close to 500,000 Jewish Israeli citizens which includes about 200,000 in East Jerusalem), and 16.5% of the population of Israel proper as Arab citizens of Israel. Many are Palestinian refugees or internally displaced Palestinians, including more than a million in the Gaza Strip, three-quarters of a million in the West Bank, and about a quarter of a million in Israel proper. Of the Palestinian population who live abroad, known as the Palestinian diaspora, more than half are stateless lacking citizenship in any country. 3.24 million of the diaspora population live in neighboring Jordan where they make up approximately half the population, 1.5 million live between Syria and Lebanon, a quarter of a million in Saudi Arabia, with Chile's half a million representing the largest concentration outside the Arab world.
Genetic analysis suggests that a majority of the Muslims of Palestine, inclusive of Arab citizens of Israel, are descendants of Christians, Jews and other earlier inhabitants of the southern Levant whose core may reach back to prehistoric times. A study of high-resolution haplotypes demonstrated that a substantial portion of Y chromosomes of Israeli Jews (70%) and of Palestinian Muslim Arabs (82%) belonged to the same chromosome pool. Since the time of the Muslim conquests in the 7th century, religious conversions have resulted in Palestinians being predominantly Sunni Muslim by religious affiliation, though there is a significant Palestinian Christian minority of various Christian denominations, as well as Druze and a small Samaritan community. Though Palestinian Jews made up part of the population of Palestine prior to the creation of the State of Israel, few identify as "Palestinian" today. Acculturation, independent from conversion to Islam, resulted in Palestinians being linguistically and culturally Arab. The vernacular of Palestinians, irrespective of religion, is the Palestinian dialect of Arabic. Many Arab citizens of Israel including Palestinians are bilingual and fluent in Hebrew.
The history of a distinct Palestinian national identity is a disputed issue amongst scholars. Legal historian Assaf Likhovski states that the prevailing view is that Palestinian identity originated in the early decades of the 20th century. "Palestinian" was used to refer to the nationalist concept of a Palestinian people by the Arabs of Palestine in a limited way until World War I. The first demand for national independence of the Levant was issued by the Syrian--Palestinian Congress on 21 September 1921. After the creation of the State of Israel, the exodus of 1948, and more so after the exodus of 1967, the term came to signify not only a place of origin, but also the sense of a shared past and future in the form of a Palestinian state. According to Rashid Khalidi, the modern Palestinian people now understand their identity as encompassing the heritage of all ages from biblical times up to the Ottoman period.
Founded in 1964, the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) is an umbrella organization for groups that represent the Palestinian people before the international community. The Palestinian National Authority, officially established as a result of the Oslo Accords, is an interim administrative body nominally responsible for governance in Palestinian population centers in the West Bank and Gaza Strip. Since 1978, the United Nations has observed an annual International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People.

It's a Two-State Delusion for Israel and Palestine
Disputes over settlements, the right of return, the rise of Hamas, recognition of Israel as a Jewish state, and other intractable issues have repeatedly derailed peace negotiations between Israel and Palestine. Now, renowned peacemaker Padraig O’Malley argues that the moment for a two-state solution has passed.

The Struggle for Palestinian Nationhood: Identity, Independence, History (1997)
Subscribe For more videos The Struggle for Palestinian Nationhood: Identity, Independence, History (1997) Palestinian nationalism is the national movement of the Palestinian people. It has roots in Syrian nationalism, the rejection of colonialism and movements calling for national independence. Unlike pan-Arabism in general, Palestinian nationalism has emphasized Palestinian self-government and has rejected the historic non-domestic Arab rule by Egypt over the Gaza Strip and Jordan over the West Bank.
Before the development of modern nationalism, loyalty tended to focus on a city or a particular leader. The term "nationalismus", translated as nationalism, was coined by Johann Gottfried Herder in the late 1770s. Palestinian nationalism has been compared to other nationalist movements, such as Pan-Arabism and Zionism. Some nationalists argue that "the nation was always there, indeed it is part of the natural order, even when it was submerged in the hearts of its members."[2] In keeping with this philosophy, Al-Quds University states that although "Palestine was conquered in times past by ancient Egyptians, Hittites, Philistines, Israelites, Assyrians, Babylonians, Persians, Romans, Muslim Arabs, Mamlukes, Ottomans, the British, the Zionists … the population remained constant—and is now still Palestinian."[3]
In his 1997 book, Palestinian Identity: The Construction of Modern National Consciousness, historian Rashid Khalidi notes that the archaeological strata that denote the history of Palestine—encompassing the Biblical, Roman, Byzantine, Umayyad, Fatimid, Crusader, Ayyubid, Mamluk and Ottoman periods—form part of the identity of the modern-day Palestinian people, as they have come to understand it over the last century,[4] but derides the efforts of some Palestinian nationalists to attempt to "anachronistically" read back into history a nationalist consciousness that is in fact "relatively modern."[4] Khalidi stresses that Palestinian identity has never been an exclusive one, with "Arabism, religion, and local loyalties" playing an important role.[5] He argues that the modern national identity of Palestinians has its roots in nationalist discourses that emerged among the peoples of the Ottoman empire in the late 19th century which sharpened following the demarcation of modern nation-state boundaries in the Middle East after World War I.[5] He acknowledges that Zionism played a role in shaping this identity, though "it is a serious mistake to suggest that Palestinian identity emerged mainly as a response to Zionism."[5] Khalidi describes the Arab population of British Mandatory Palestine as having "overlapping identities," with some or many expressing loyalties to villages, regions, a projected nation of Palestine, an alternative of inclusion in a Greater Syria, an Arab national project, as well as to Islam.[6] He writes that,"local patriotism could not yet be described as nation-state nationalism."[7]
Israeli historian Haim Gerber, a professor of Islamic History at Hebrew University of Jerusalem, traces Arab nationalism back to a 17th-century religious leader, Mufti Khayr al-Din al-Ramli (1585–1671)[8] who lived in Ramla. He claims that Khayr al-Din al-Ramli's religious edicts (fatwa, plural fatawa), collected into final form in 1670 under the name al-Fatawa al-Khayriyah, attest to territorial awareness: "These fatawa are a contemporary record of the time, and also give a complex view of agrarian relations." Mufti Khayr al-Din al-Ramli's 1670 collection entitled al-Fatawa al-Khayriyah mentions the concepts Filastin, biladuna (our country), al-Sham (Syria), Misr (Egypt), and diyar (country), in senses that appear to go beyond objective geography. Gerber describes this as "embryonic territorial awareness, though the reference is to social awareness rather than to a political one."[9]
Baruch Kimmerling and Joel Migdal consider the 1834 Arab revolt in Palestine as the first formative event of the Palestinian people,[10] whereas Benny Morris stest that the Arabs in Palestine remained part of a larger Pan-Islamist or Pan-Arab national movement.[11]
In his book The Israel–Palestine Conflict: One Hundred Years of War, James L. Gelvin states that "Palestinian nationalism emerged during the interwar period in response to Zionist immigration and settlement."[12] However, this does not make Palestinian identity any less legitimate: "The fact that Palestinian nationalism developed later than Zionism and indeed in response to it does not in any way diminish the legitimacy of Palestinian nationalism or make it less valid than Zionism. All nationalisms arise in opposition to some "other." Why else would there be the need to specify who you are? And all nationalisms are defined by what they oppose."

Thousands of protesters, including many school children, descended on the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) Headquarters in Gaza, to rally against the delay to the start of the academic year in 700 Middle Eastern schools, Monday. Protesters, waving Palestinian flags, approached the gates of the UNRWA compound and banged their hands against its metal doors.
The UNWRA made the decision after not being able to fill a $101 million (€92.37 million) shortfall in its budget. It is thought the delay will affect up to half a million school children.
The decision will not only hit students in Palestine, but also affect 118,000 children in Jordan, many of whom are Palestinian refugees.
Austerity measures, due to a lack of donors, have meant the UNRWA has had to cut back everything but non-essential services. The services still provided by the agency in the region include sanitation, health and poverty relief. It is unclear when the academic year could start.

State of Palestine: Hunger striker's father labels Israel force feeding law 'inhuman'
W/S Watchtower
SOT, Nasser Allan, father of Mohammed Allan (Arabic): "The means of Israel are brutal, inhuman, illegal and do not follow the rules of the United Nations, and it’s a country that claims to be democratic; those two things cannot get along."
M/S Watchtower
SOT, Nasser Allan, father of Mohammed Allan (Arabic): "We are communicating with people on all levels: the Palestinian authority, NGOs, medical agencies, and the international agencies; the Red Cross and the UN. My voice along with these influential international agencies can achieve [Mohammed’s release]. We knocked on all doors, we faced deaf ears from the prisons administration and local governance, and they always offer me the option to agree to the force feeding operation, which is an intentional and brutal execution, or we would let him die from hunger. In a previous interview I told them that I will leave him to his strike, better that than being tortured. Right now I accuse the Israeli government on all its levels of committing murder slowly, or it makes you make a difficult decision by asking you to agree to the methods of torture. Also I hold the Israeli government responsible for the consequences of this decision, both inside the jails and on an Arabian and international level, and they know a decision like this can be a big hassle for them."

Nasser Allan, the father of Palestinian hunger-striker Mohammed Allan, said the new Israeli law that allows their authorities to force feed prisoners is “brutal, inhuman and illegal,” during an interview in Ramallah on Monday.
The elder Allan stated that he is communicating with international agencies, including the “Red Cross and the UN,” in an effort to get his son released.
Continuing, Allan said that the Israeli prison authorities have given him a choice: either "agree to the force feeding operation or let him [Mohammed] die from hunger." The father declared that he wouldn’t agree to his son’s force feeding, and would rather “leave him to his strike, better that than being tortured.”
Mohammed Allan has been on hunger strike for the last 56 days, after he was placed on ‘administrative detention,’ a practice which allows Israel to hold Palestinians for a year without charges or trial.
The Israel’s legislation that allows force feeding, passed by the government last month, has drawn condemnation from the UN, as well as Israel’s Medical Association, who consider force feeding a form of torture.

Dozens of protesters gathered outside the United Nations (UN) offices in Gaza, Saturday, to protest in support of detainees' rights in Israeli prisons as well as denouncing the continuous crimes against Palestinians after Saad Dawabsheh, the father of the baby Ali who was burnt to death in an arson attack by Israeli illegal settlers, succumbed to his injuries in hospital.
The protesters, organised by the Islamic Jihad resistance movement, waved flags and carried pictures of Saad Dawabsheh outside the UN offices for the special coordination for the Middle East peace process.
The attack against the Dawabsheh family in early August saw a firebomb, believed to be a Molotov cocktail, thrown into the house. The family's 18-month-old toddler died with father Saad Dawabsheh's dying of his injuries earlier on Saturday and Saad's wife Riham and elder son still in hospital suffering from serious injuries. Media reports state that Riham, the mother of Ali and wife of Saad, had suffered worse injuries than Saad, raising further concerns whether she will survive.
According to the UN there has been over 120 attacks on Palestinians by settlers in 2015.

Israel and Palestine: Achieving a Two-State Solution
(Visit: http://www.uctv.tv/) Using specially commissioned interactive maps to display alternative solutions to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, David Makovsky and Ghaith al-Omari argue that a two-state solution based on land-swaps is the only viable one for the future. The core principle of these swaps is to reconcile the Palestinian demand for a return to the pre-1967 lines with Israel's desire to include as many of the West Bank's 300,000 settlers in Israel proper as possible. They argue that any feasible scenario must include Israel's granting Palestinians arable land from within Israel's pre-1967 border in exchange for annexed settlement

Should Palestine be recognised as a state alongside Israel - MPs debate
MPs argue whether the Government should recognise Palestine as a state alongside Israel.
The proposer of the motion says there is huge public desire across the UK for the issue to be aired.
This is thought to be the first time that the issue has had lengthy talks in Parliament since 2012.
It follows the collapse of peace talks between Israel and Palestine and a summer conflict in Gaza, which claimed the lives of more than 2,100 Palestinians - mostly civilians - as well as 70 Israelis, all but six soldiers.
An amendment in the motion suggests any decision to recognise Palestine as a state should be taken once peace negotiations have succes

At the same time, others have redoubled their efforts to suppress discussion of Israel's escalating war against Palestinians, promoting legislation to defund institutions that participate in boycotts, and pressuring university administrations to punish studen

In the wake of the formation of the new Israeli government and as the Vatican formally recognizes the the state of Palestine, the debate about Israel/Palestine in the United States is shifting. As many look past a two state solution that seems increasingly difficult to achieve, more fundamental debates about Zionism, partition and equality are gaining greater prominence.
Join New America NYC for a debate over these questions between Peter Beinart, Senior Fellow at New America, and Yousef Munayyer, Executive Director of the US Campaign to End Israeli Occupation.

An amendment in the motion suggests any decision to recognise Palestine as a state should be taken once peace negotiations have successfully concluded.

Why have Western countries only now decided to vote to recognize the state of Palestine? What will be the outcome? Will a legitimate Palestinian state bring peace to the region? Is an Israeli-Palestinian peace plan a dead end?

Norman Finkelstein’s address to the UCD Philosophy Society, University College Dublin, on the current state of the occupied territories. Tuesday 10 Feb 2015.
In his address, Dr Finklestein discusses the recent conflicts in the occupied territories which followed the kidnapping and killing of three Israeli youths and a Palestinian teen; Israel's anti-missile defence system, the Iron Dome; Isreal’s Operation Protective Edge; and possible ways to resolve the conflict.
Finkelstein, a political scientist, has written extensively on the political, social and historical state of Israel and the occupied territories. He famously and successfully dismantled and deconstructed 'From Time Immemorial' by Joan Peters which, at the time, was considered a foundational and invaluable text on the Palestine - Israel Conflict.
Finkelstein received his doctorate in 1988 from the Department of Politics at Princeton University. He currently teaches at Sakarya University’s Center for Middle Eastern Studies in Turkey. He is the author of ten books that have been translated into 50 foreign editions. The title of his latest book is Method and Madness: The hidden story of Israel’s assaults on Gaza.
“Mr Finkelstein's research is certainly thorough. His characterisations, too, can be brilliant, and he spares nobody...” The Economist (2012).

The Future of Palestine: Ali Abunimah & Max Blumenthal in San Francisco
The movement for Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions against the State of Israel has taken major strides recently in the United States. With divestment votes moving forward on campuses across the country, and votes to boycott Israeli institutions passed by the American Studies Association and other organizations, discussions of the movement and its objectives have entered the mainstream.
At the same time, others have redoubled their efforts to suppress discussion of Israel's escalating war against Palestinians, promoting legislation to defund institutions that participate in boycotts, and pressuring university administrations to punish students and faculty who support BDS.
ALI ABUNIMAH and MAX BLUMENTHAL, two leading voices in the movement in solidarity with Palestine, discuss their acclaimed new books, recent developments in the Middle East and United States, and the future of Palestine.
Ali Abunimah is the author of The Battle for Justice in Palestine. Max Blumenthal is the author of Goliath: Life and Loathing in Greater Israel.

A debate between Peter Beinart and Yousef Munayyer
In the wake of the formation of the new Israeli government and as the Vatican formally recognizes the the state of Palestine, the debate about Israel/Palestine in the United States is shifting. As many look past a two state solution that seems increasingly difficult to achieve, more fundamental debates about Zionism, partition and equality are gaining greater prominence.

State of Palestine: West Bank football team plays in Gaza for first time in 15 years
West Bank-based football team Ahli al-Khalil played a historic match against home side Ittihad al-Shejaiya at the Yarmouk Stadium in Gaza, Thursday, after 15 years of Israel refusing to allow West Bank and Gaza teams to travel to compete against each other. The game ended in a goalless draw.

State of Palestine: Funeral held for victims of exploded Israeli rocket *GRAPHIC*

State of Palestine: Demolition of Beit El continues in spite of Bibi's opposition

Former President Jimmy Carter says there is Zero Chance for Israel Palestine Two-state Solution
http://www.haaretz.com/news/diplomacy-defense/1.671056

Edward Said on the Palestinian People (1989)
Subscribe For more videos Edward Said on the Palestinian People (1989) The Palestinian people (Levantine Arabic: الشعب الفلسطيني, ash-sha'b al-Filasṭīnī), also referred to as Palestinians (Levantine Arabic: الفلسطينيون, al-Filasṭīniyyūn), are the modern descendants of the peoples who have lived in Palestine over the centuries, and who today are largely culturally and linguistically Arab due to Arabization of the region.

Israel and Palestine: Achieving a Two-State Solution
Israel and Palestine: Achieving a Two-State Solution
(Visit: http://www.uctv.tv/) Using specially commissioned interactive maps to display alternative solutions to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, David Makovsky and Ghaith al-Omari argue that a two-state solution based on land-swaps is the only viable one for the future. The core principle of these swaps is to reconcile the Palestinian demand for a return to the pre-1967 lines with Israel's desire to include as many of the West Bank's 300,000 settlers in Israel proper as possible. They argue that any feasible scenario must include Israel's granting Palestinians arable land from within Israel's pre-1967 border in exchange for annexed settlement blocs (clusters of settlements) and that it is essential that, for any land annexed by Israel as part of a deal, Palestinians receive equal amounts of land. David Makovsky is the Director of the Project on the Middle East Peace Process at the Washington Institute for Near East Policy. Ghaith al-Omari is the Executive Director of the American Task Force on Palestine. Series: "Herman P. and Sophia Taubman Endowed Symposia in Jewish Studies" [Public Affairs] [Show ID: 24895]

An amendment in the motion suggests any decision to recognise Palestine as a state should be taken once peace negotiations have successfully concluded.

Norman Finkelstein | The Martyrdom of Gaza and the Future of Palestine
