We are analyzing the Conventional Power Sources and Renewable Power Sources to find this Out. Calculations for each Power Source are as below Coal: Burning one ton of Coal Creates 2460 kWh of Energy * 876 kWh / 2460 kWh/ton = 0.357 tons * 0.357 tons = 714 Pounds Nuclear: 1 Pound of the Uranium 235 isotope can produce 10,246,469 kWh of Energy * 876 kWh/10,246,469 kWh/pound = 8.5 x 10(power 5) pounds * Divide this by 0.35 (the average thermal efficiency of Uranium 235 is only 35%) = 2.4 x 10 (power 4) pounds. * Divide this by 0.007 (Uranium 235 isotope needed for nuclear fission makes up only 0.7% of raw Uranium) = 0.035 pounds or Natural Uranium Natural Gas: 1 Pound of Natural Gas can Produce 6.12 kWh of Energy * 876 kWh / 6.12 kWh/pound = 143 pound of natural Gas Wind: 1.5 Megawatt Turbine x 365 Days x 24 Hours x 25% Capacity = 3,285 mWh = 3,285,000 kWh per Year * 876 kWh / 3,285,000 kWh per Year = 2.67 x 10(power 4) Years * 2.67 x 10(power 4) Years = 2 Hours 20 Minutes 9 Seconds Solar: Assuming a Yield between 20-25%(Average Solar Conversion Efficiency), * A One Square meter panel producing 100 kWh would require 8 days 18 Hours 14 minutes and 24 Seconds Hydroelectric: The Power of Hydroelectric turbine = (height of dam) x (river flow) x (efficiency) / 11.8 (coverts the units of feet and seconds into kilowatts) * Assuming: Dam height (10 Feet) x River Flow (500 ft-cube per seconds) x (80% Efficiency) / 11.8 = 339 kWh turbine * 876 kWh / 339 kWh Turbine = 2 Hours and 35 Minutes. Kilo-Watt Hour: A quantitative measure of electric current flow equivalent to one thousand watts being used continuously for a period on one hour; the unit most commonly used to measure electrical energy, as opposed to kilowatt, which is simply a measure of available power. Customer billings for all but the largest consumers are usually based in part or in total on the number of kilowatt-hours of electricity used. The standard unit of current flow used in physics is the joule, but since a joule is only equivalent to one watt-second, kilowatt-hour has become a much more convenient standard.
