Literary Trip to Gyeongju of Sanjay from India and Professor Montgomery from USA Sanjay is a young man from Varanasi, India, where he worked as a boat tour guide and ran a small tea house. He was quite famous among Korean tourists in Varanasi. He speaks Korean fluently and he was also featured in the best-selling poem collection "I Miss You Even When You Are by My Side" by renowned Korean poet Ryu Si-hwa. Last summer Sanjay visited Korea to learn more about the Korean culture and language. He is having his hands full studying for the advanced level of a Korean language proficiency test at Dongguk University. The more he learns, the more he wants to find out about the history and culture of Korea. He was lucky to find a mentor - Professor Montgomery who teaches English translation and interpretation at the same university and who runs a blog (www.ktlit.com). He also introduces Korean writers and translates their works on Wikipedia, for which he earned the title of an honorary Seoul citizen in 2012. Professor Montgomery takes Sanjay on a trip to Gyeongju to help him learn about the history and culture of Korea. This program shows what the two learned about the capital city of the ancient Silla Kingdom and two famous Korean writers from Gyeongju, Kim Dong-ni and Park Mok-wol. 인도인 Sanjay와 미국인 Montgomery 교수의 경주 문학기행 인도 바라나시의 갠지스 강의 보트를 타고 관광안내를 하고, 작은 찻집에서는 인도 전통 차인 짜이를 파는 청년 선재. 선재는 바라나시를 찾는 한국인들에게 꽤 알려진 유명인사다. 선재는 유창한 한국말을 구사하는 것은 물론 한국에서 인도여행 에세이로 베스트셀러 작가가 된 류시화 시인의 지구별 여행자라는 책에 등장하는 인물이기도 하다. 선재는 지난여름, 좀 더 깊이 있는 한국문화와 한국어를 공부하기 위해 한국을 찾았다. 동국대학교 어학원에서 한국어 능력시험의 고급과정에 등록해 바쁜 나날을 보내고 있는 선재. 한국어를 배우면 배울수록 한국문학과 역사에 대해서도 자세히 알고 싶어졌다. 그런 선재에게 좋은 멘토가 등장했다. 같은 대학에서 영어 통번역과 교수로 재직 중인 찰스 몽고메리 교수. 그는 개인 블로그(www.ktlit.com)와 위키피디아에서 한국 작가와 작품을 번역해서 소개하는 역할을 수년간 해왔다. 그리고 그런 공로를 인정받아 지난 2012년에는 서울시 명예시민으로 선정되기도 했다. 몽고메리 교수는 한국의 역사와 문학의 터인 경주를 선재에게 소개하기로 했다. 신라왕조의 천년의 역사와 작가 김동리와 박목월의 작품의 토양이 된 경주로 떠난 두 사람의 특별한 동행. 한국 문학에 빠진 두 사람은 경주에서 어떤 추억을 남기게 될까?
