Yongsan District (Yongsan-gu) is a district of Seoul, South Korea. Its name means "Dragon Hill", derived from the hanja characters for dragon (龍 yong) and hill/mountain (山 san). It sits to the north of the Han River under the shadow of Seoul Tower. It is in the center of Seoul. It is home to roughly 250,000 people and is divided into 20 dong, or neighborhoods. Notable locations in Yongsan District include Yongsan Station, the sprawling Yongsan Electronics Market, Haebangchon and the Itaewon commercial district. Itaewon is widely known as one of the most ethnically diverse regions in Korea. Many foreigners gravitate to its shopping centers and nightlife.
Yongsan District is the site of Yongsan Garrison, a large United States military base in the heart of Seoul. Because of the scarcity of land in central Seoul, as well as the consolidation of U.S. Forces throughout the Korean Peninsula, the U.S. and South Korean governments have agreed to relocate the facility out of Seoul to Pyeongtaek by 2017. After its relocation, the 243 ha of its land is planned to be developed into a large park.
In this video, I explore around the neighborhood where Marie and I live! We just moved into a new apartment a few weeks ago. This walk towards our new apartment is sort of the way I get home, if I walk. Usually I take the town bus instead, since the hills are steep and I am lazy. This is located in Yongsan district, close to Huam-dong and Haebangcheon neighborhoods. Thank you for watching, we really appreciate the support! _____________________________________________________ We are Cory and Marie, and we love sharing Korea with you and hearing all your feedback. In this SEOUL WALK episode, I decided to take the long way home by walking to Yongsan, and then walking a back alley road to Samgakji. The back alley runs parallel to the Line 1 & Line 4 train tracks. Along the side of the tracks are low-income housing, recycling stations, and condemned buildings. If you know my videos from the past, I tend to gravitate towards showing these out-of-sight places that don't get any exposure. They are usually down-trodden places, in disrepair. My videos of these types of places aren't meant to show a bad side of Seoul. I love Seoul, as is apparent in my videos, and even on my T-shirt. But, I don't want these old neighborhoods to disappear, without anyone knowing they existed for decades, where people work hard to barely survive. One day, all of it w...

Once a golf course for the United States military, Yongsan Family Park has become an oasis and a peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. The large park, which features wonderful wide open green spaces and trees, is situated right next to the National Museum of Korea just south of Mt. Namsan just off the banks of the Han River. http://www.theseoulguide.com/sights/parks-and-outdoors/yongsan-family-park/

What comes in mind when you hear Itaewon-dong, Yongsan-gu, Seoul? My answer is “shopping, dining, and hanging out". I can probably spend a day here and not get tired or hungry. We were here just to pick up something and leave. I could not miss a chance to take a picture of the busy streets and people walking by trying to reach their destinations. Whether going down to the subway or crossing the street. I will definitely go back and take more pictures, of course eat and shop. These are very few pictures from our short visit in Itaewon-dong, Yongsan-gu, Seoul.
This is the first leg of the trip I take every weekend when I return home from Seoul. The trip took me from the neighborhood of Hongdae in Seoul to Yongsan station to buy my ticket for the train. Next up, a little tour of the long distance trains in Korea and a chat about the different seating options. Thanks so much for watching!! And also we want to thank Chef Zaldy, Miss Kiky, and Mr Anton who takes care of us while we are at Korea. Sorry for the crappy quality for the video. This video is recorded with my iPh...
