An orphaned girl and housemaid, Balamani (Navya Nair) is an ardent devotee of Lord Krishna. Balamani takes care of Unni Amma (Kaviyoor Ponnamma)who lives in that ancestral house. Unni Amma treats Balamani like her daughter. Unni Amma's grandson Manu (Prithviraj) comes from Bangalore to stay with his grandmother for a few days before he leaves for USA. Balamani was shocked to see Manu for first time, because she had seen him in her dreams before as her groom. They fall in love with each other. Manu's mother (Revathy), who was unaware of his son's affair, asks him to marry her friend's daughter.
Manu discloses his wish to his mother, but in vain, as his mother had taken the marriage preparations to a point of no-return. His decision to marry the housemaid was not welcomed by all and Manu was forced to enter the marriage that was set for him. Disheartened Balamani prays to Guruvayurappan. Unnikrishnan (Aravindar & Sudheesh), who was her neighbor boy, consoles her and tells about a prospective U-turn in events that could enable her marriage with Manu. Balamani doesn't hope for that to happen even in the wildest of her dreams. In the series of events that follows, Balamani finally unites with Manu and they get happily married in Guruvayur Temple in front of Lord Guruvayurappan. Later she realizes that it was The Lord Himself (Aravindar) who came to console her as her neighbor lad, Unnikrishnan.

Nandanam seems to have originated in the piece of land known as Gambier's Gardens named after Chief Justice John Gambier who owned the property from 1836 to 1850. The township got its name in the 1950s as a result of the housing development efforts instituted during the Chief Ministership of Rajagopalachari which concentrated on developing a green Chennai.
