Second Balkan Festival in Nedelino, Bulgaria. The Balkan Festival is a traditional folklore festival of Nedelino, a small town in the heart of the Rhodope Mountains, in the county of Smolyan. It is also known as "The Town of Two Voices" named after the folklore singing style or polyphony, which is unique for this place and cannot be heard anywhere else worldwide. It is a national and world treasure. The festival of Nedelino started as a National Folklore Festival and then, as it had more and more international guests each year, it became a Balkan festival. In year 2014 it hosted guests coming from as far as Iran. It is slowly but gradually becoming a bigger and more important event, securing its place in the Bulgarian and Balkan culture and history. It is not only a singing contest or an ordinary town fair. It is not even only an authentic or cultural event as many others in this region. It has a deeper meaning for the citizens of Nedelino and even for the country. Each year it gathers masses of people together and unites the population of the town and southern Bulgaria. Furthermore, citizens of Nedelino from faraway countries fly back home to show respect to their homeland and hometown traditions, family and friends, and be a part of the proud Nedelino community. There is no excuse for not being a part of such a beautiful entertaining combination of festival, fair, music contest and in 2014 - town anniversary. The Festival - a seemingly little town event that proves that this small but attractive place with breathtaking nature and centuries of history is not growing old! Even with half its population living or working in different spots on the planet, it still finds a way of bringing everyone home and uniting its community in the best manner possible.
