The Nag Hammadi library is a collection of Gnostic texts discovered near the Upper Egyptian town of Nag Hammadi in 1945. Twelve leather-bound papyrus codices buried in a sealed jar were found by a local farmer named Muhammed al-Samman. The writings in these codices comprised fifty-two mostly Gnostic treatises, but they also include three works belonging to the Corpus Hermeticum and a partial translation/alteration of Plato's Republic. In his introduction to The Nag Hammadi Library in English, James Robinson suggests that these codices may have belonged to a nearby Pachomian monastery, and were buried after Saint Athanasius condemned the use of non-canonical books in his Festal Letter of 367 A.D. The discovery of these texts significantly influenced modern scholarship into early Christianity and Gnosticism.
The contents of the codices were written in the Coptic language. The best-known of these works is probably the Gospel of Thomas, of which the Nag Hammadi codices contain the only complete text. After the discovery, scholars recognized that fragments of these sayings attributed to Jesus appeared in manuscripts discovered at Oxyrhynchus in 1898 (P. Oxy. 1), and matching quotations were recognized in other early Christian sources. Subsequently, a 1st or 2nd century date of composition circa 80 AD or earlier has been proposed for the lost Greek originals of the Gospel of Thomas. The buried manuscripts date from the 3rd and 4th centuries.
Nag Hammadi (Arabic: نجع حمادى, IPA: [ˈnæɡʕe ħæmˈmæːdi]) is a city in Upper Egypt. Nag Hammadi was known as Chenoboskion (Greek: Χηνοβόσκιον) in classical antiquity, meaning "geese grazing grounds". It is located on the west bank of the Nile in the Qena Governorate, about 80 kilometres north-west of Luxor.
It has a population of about 30,000, who are mostly farmers. Sugar and aluminium are produced in Nag Hammadi. Egyptalum is the largest aluminium producer in the Middle East. Wood particleboard is manufactured from sugar cane bagasse.
The town of Nag Hammadi was established by Mahmoud Pasha Hammadi, who was a member of the Hammadi family in Sohag, Egypt. Mahmoud Pasha Hammadi was a major landholder in Sohag, and known for his strong opposition to the British occupation.
Mahmoud Pasha Hammadi created Nag Hammadi for the indigenous people from Sohag who were forced to abandon their homeland by the British occupation. In recognition of this, the new town was given the name "Hammadi".
Mary Magdalene (Hebrew: מרים המגדלית, original Greek: Μαρία ἡ Μαγδαληνή), or Mary of Magdala and sometimes The Magdalene, is a figure in Christianity. Mary Magdalene travelled with Jesus as one of his followers. She is said to have witnessed Jesus' crucifixion and resurrection. Within the four Gospels she is named at least 12 times, more than most of the apostles. During the Middle Ages she developed a reputation in Western Christianity as being a repentant prostitute or loose woman. This is not supported by the canonical gospels.
The Gospel of Luke says seven demons had gone out of her, and the longer ending of Mark says Jesus had cast seven demons out of her. She is most prominent in the narrative of the crucifixion of Jesus, at which she was present. She was also present two days later, immediately following the sabbath, when, according to all four canonical Gospels, she was either alone or as a member of a group of women the first to testify to the resurrection of Jesus.John 20 and Mark 16:9 specifically name her as the first person to see Jesus after his resurrection.

The Nag Hammadi library is a collection of codices buried in an earthen jar in the 4th century (presumably to prevent immolation by Catholic enforcers) and rediscovered 1600 years later. The Gospel of Truth was authored by 2nd century Christian leader Valentinius or one of his proteges. In the Gospel of Truth we find a so-called Gnostic text which is in fact closer to the New Testament than the writings of the "Church Fathers." Irenaeus, Hippolytus and Tertullian portrayed God as a distant monarch who was mainly concerned with church dogmatics and church authority. The Gospel of Truth teaches not religion but experience -- the experience of living, conscious union with a Living God.

Part Two tells the story of where Nag Hammadi is located and how the Nag Hammadi scriptures were discovered there in 1945 by local Egyptian fellahin, otherwise known as farmers. I also discuss some of the personalities associated with the translation of the Nag Hammadi library and the importance of their scholarship. A quick overview of this new series: The internet has become a platform of information regarding this early belief, however, not all of these sources are correct and perhaps arise out of misconceptions regarding their doctrine - The Nag Hammadi scriptures. This series will elucidate each tractate found within the Thirteen papyrus codices of the Nag Hammadi scriptures, totaling 52 different texts (or books), 41 of which were never previously extant. I will also p...
The Perfect Savior said to them: "I want you to know that Sophia, the Mother of the Universe and the consort, desired by herself to bring these to existence without her male (consort). But by the will of the Father of the Universe, that his unimaginable goodness might be revealed, he created that curtain between the immortals and those that came afterward, that the consequence might follow ... every aeon and chaos - that the defect of the female might appear, and it might come about that Error would contend with her. And these became the curtain of spirit. From the aeons above the emanations of Light, as I have said already, a drop from Light and Spirit came down to the lower regions of Almighty in chaos, that their molded forms might appear from that drop, for it is a judgment on him, Arc...

The Gospel According to Thomas is an early Christian non-canonical sayings-gospel that many scholars believe provides insight into the oral gospel traditions. It was discovered near Nag Hammadi, Egypt, in December 1945 among a group of books known as the Nag Hammadi library. The library consists of fifty-two writings that include an excerpt from Plato's Republic and gospels which state that they were written by Jesus' disciple Philip. Scholars speculate that the works were buried in response to a letter from Bishop Athanasius declaring a strict canon of Christian scripture. The Book, 'The Teachings of Christ' by Karajah Yashar give the readers a concise break down, verse by verse of the Gospel of Thomas. The Coptic-language text, the second of seven contained in what modern-day scholars ha...
Effectively suppressed for centuries, a group of "Gnostic Gospels" were discovered in the Egyptian desert in 1945, now known as the Nag Hammadi library. This immensely important discovery includes texts once thought to have been entirely destroyed "Take it not amiss, that the alchemy I teach yields neither gold nor silver; but look upon it as the key which opens the arcana of medicine to you." - Paracelsus Robert Sepehr is an author, producer and anthropologist specializing in linguistics, archeology, and paleobiology (archeogenetics). http://amazon.com/Robert-Sepehr/e/B00XTAB1YC/
What Is the Nag Hammadi Library? Do the Scrolls That Were Found at Nag Hammadi Belong in the Bible? Nag Hammadi is a town in northern Egypt where a collection of ancient writings was discovered in 1945. The collection of writings has since been titled the Nag Hammadi library, or the Nag Hammadi scrolls, or the Nag Hammadi codices. The vast majority of the scrolls in the Nag Hammadi library represent the writings of what was/is known as Christian Gnosticism. The Nag Hammadi library is frequently pointed to as an example of "lost books of the Bible." According to the conspiracy theory, the early Christians tried to destroy these Gnostic writings because they contained secret teachings about Jesus and Christianity. The Nag Hammadi library was supposedly the result of faithful efforts of Gno...

How did the Lord proclaim things while he existed in flesh and after he had revealed himself as Son of God? He lived in this place where you remain, speaking about the Law of Nature - but I call it 'Death'. Now the Son of God, was Son of Man. An analysis of the Nag Hammadi Library is made to prove that the Archons are the Cronides and that the chief Archon, Yaldabaoth, was Cronus. The proof is given. It is also revealed that the archons/angels had to change their form in order to mate with human women. The goddesses are as follows - Sophia is Gaia, Zoe is Rhea, and Barbelos might be the Greek Goddess Chaos who is the Sumerian Tiamat. It is the primeval father and Barbelos who send Christ to free humans. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Archon https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Death_(personification) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cronus https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nag_Hammadi_library https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gnosticism https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Homunculus https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spermatozoon

Introduction to New Testament (RLST 152) We have known of the existence of the Gospel of Thomas from ancient writers, but it was only after the discovery of the Nag Hammadi Codices that the actual text became available. The Gospel of Thomas is basically a collection of sayings, or logia, that sometimes seem similar, perhaps more primitive than sayings found in the canonical Gospels. Sometimes, however, the sayings seem better explained as reflecting a "Gnostic" understanding of the world. This involves a rejection of the material world and a desire for gnosis, a secret knowledge, in order to escape the world and return to the divine being. 00:00 - Chapter 1.
