A nuclear weapon is an explosive device that derives its destructive force from nuclear reactions, either fission or a combination of fission and fusion. Both reactions release vast quantities of energy from relatively small amounts of matter. The first fission ("atomic") bomb test released the same amount of energy as approximately 20,000 tons of TNT. The first thermonuclear ("hydrogen") bomb test released the same amount of energy as approximately 10,000,000 tons of TNT.
A modern thermonuclear weapon weighing little more than 2,400 pounds (1,100 kg) can produce an explosive force comparable to the detonation of more than 1.2 million tons (1.1 million tonnes) of TNT. Thus, even a small nuclear device no larger than traditional bombs can devastate an entire city by blast, fire and radiation. Nuclear weapons are considered weapons of mass destruction, and their use and control have been a major focus of international relations policy since their debut.
Only two nuclear weapons have been used in the course of warfare, both by the United States near the end of World War II. On 6 August 1945, a uranium gun-type device code-named "Little Boy" was detonated over the Japanese city of Hiroshima. Three days later, on 9 August, a plutonium implosion-type device code-named "Fat Man" was exploded over Nagasaki, Japan. These two bombings resulted in the deaths of approximately 200,000 Japanese people—mostly civilians—from acute injuries sustained from the explosions. The role of the bombings in Japan's surrender, and their ethical status, remain the subject of scholarly and popular debate.
We're living in a frightening age
Especially with the scare of AIDS
Soon we won't touch one another
Without fear of losing a limb
Yes, we're out on a limb
Don't forget about AIDS and the bomb
Open your eyes and ears and open up your mind
Now there's this thing called the bomb
You know the one that'll do us no harm
The one that's here solely for our protection
The same one that could blow us away, any day
There are the one who shoot down bad guys,
there are the one who clean them up.
Some people start to sing 'bout when a star has died.
And some kind humans fill my cup.
[Chorus 1:]
I am an A - Bomb!
There are more than strange professions,
e.g. those priest guys on TV!
Did not have a single lesson theory
and now look what became of me.
[Chorus 2:]
I am an A - Bomb,
blind and deaf but strong.
When I come along, somebody was wrong.
Nice to have a lot of free-time.
My work is really not too hard
and someday I'll see the sunshine I am sure.
This pleasure faster beats my heart!
If you don’t shut your mouth he’ll shut it for you
Don’t poke your fun at him he’s got a short fuse
If he blows up you can count on going down
His atomic blasts enough to kill the whole town
Hiroshima will seem like a cherry bomb
Nagasaki is nothing next to this one
His aftershock will pull up trees from their roots
It will smash your windows and put your car on your roof
He’s an A Bomb [x8]
I'm the terminator
Drum drum like in Lebanon
