Muslims in Egypt have begun to celebrate the Eid al-Fitr with mass prayers and family gathering on Friday, marking the end of the Islamic holy month of Ramadan. The end of Ramadan fasting month marks the beginning of the Eid Feast. It's an official holiday in most Muslim countries. As in every Eid, Muslims begin the day with the Eid prayers in the early hours of the morning. They congregate in their millions in the special prayer areas all over the country. Most residents in Cairo, capital of Egypt, took their families to parks after the prayers, enjoying the day out in the sunny weather. "The Eid is beautiful. People are happy. I am happy and the kids are playing. Everything is nice," said Fahma Hussein, a Cairo resident. "All of us live in this neighborhood, so we make use of the holiday to gather and meet our friends and families here. And our children play together in this good atmosphere," said Ramadan Sayed, a Cairo resident. Youngsters and teens, however, prefer to go on a romantic stroll on the banks of the Nile or take a boat trip on the river. Amidst all the celebrations, there is also the heavy presence of security in the streets all over the country, bracing for any acts of sabotage. In the city of Giza, which is located some 20 kilometers southwest of Cairo, members of the outlawed Muslim brotherhood clashed with police and residents of Talbya district, killing six and injuring 15 others. Police said the protesters were using live guns and ammunition. Close by, two bombs detonated at a cinema, injuring two people and causing damage to the building. "The first bomb detonated at the fountain square over there and once the police arrived the second bomb blew up, only 15 minutes after the first one, at the cinema here and it destroyed the cinema completely," said Ihab Ahmed, an eye witness. In spite of the violence, Egyptians were adamant to continue their celebrations throughout the day.
