The nautical mile (symbol M, NM or nmi) is a unit of length that is about one minute of arc of latitude measured along any meridian, or about one minute of arc of longitude at the equator. By international agreement it is exactly 1,852 metres (approximately 6,076 feet).
The nautical mile remains in use by sea and air navigators worldwide because of its convenience when working with charts. Most nautical charts are constructed on the Mercator projection whose scale varies by approximately a factor of six from the equator to 80° north or south latitude. It is, therefore, impossible to show a single linear scale for use on charts on scales smaller than about 1/80,000. The nautical mile circumvents this problem by being equal to a minute of latitude on a chart, which allows any distance measured with a chart divider to be simply converted using the chart's latitude scale.

There was not much wind but it turned out to be the second fastest (kitesurfing) Nautical Mile on record - you can see from the video I almost aborted this run half way through it due to weakning wind.
Running a large 11m kite. Top speed on this run was about 41 knots (36.4 knots average). Side-shore wind direction, I'm riding away from the shore into the ocean. Date: 4 May 2015.

The Space Transportation System (STS) was a proposed system of reusable manned space vehicles envisioned by NASA in 1969 to support extended operations beyond the Apollo program. (NASA appropriated the name for its Space Shuttle Program, the only component of the proposal to survive Congressional funding approval.) The purpose of the system was twofold: to reduce the cost of spaceflight by replacing the current method of launching "capsules" on expendable rockets with reusable spacecraft; and to support ambitious follow-on programs including permanent orbiting space stations around the Earth and Moon, and a human landing mission to Mars.

Sailing towards freedom. Breaking the siege again with the Palestinian fishermen under attack
Today we accompanied again the Palestinian fishermen on a trawler and we passed again the 3 nautical miles limit illegally imposed by Israel.
We left with 5 trawlers. Two trawlers were attacked by the Israeli navy at about 3 nautical miles, so we went on with 3 trawlers. We reached about 6.5 miles offshore. The Israeli navy attacked us many times with water cannons. The soldiers also shot against the trawlers with water cannons while the fishermen were trying to haul their nets, so the fishermen lost most part of the fish.
It's very hard to accept the cruelty of the soldiers that prevented the fishermen from hauling their nets,

The Big Day Out
This was a day to remember, we set out on a 140 nautical mile round trip in a seven meter boat, on our hit list was big kingfish, big giant bass, mako sharks, blue marlin and black marlin... it would be one big day if we encountered it all in a day, and we got off to an amazing start. Try not to be bamboozled by the full-on action, because there is plenty of tips and tricks woven in too.

In February 1969, President Richard Nixon appointed a Space Task Group headed by Vice President Spiro Agnew to recommend human space projects beyond Apollo. The group responded in September with the outline of the STS, and three different program levels of effort culminating with a human Mars landing by 1983 at the earliest, and by the end of the twentieth century at the latest. The system's major components consisted of:
a permanent space station module designed for 6 to 12 occupants, in a 270-nautical-mile (500 km) Earth orbit, and as a permanent lunar orbit station. Modules could be combined in Earth orbit to create a 50 to 100 person permanent station.
a chemically fueled low-Earth orbit (100-to-270-nautical-mile (190 to 500 km)) shuttle
a chemically fueled space tug to move crew and equipment between Earth orbits (including geosynchronous), and which could be adapted for use as a lunar orbit-to-surface shuttle
a nuclear-powered vehicle using the NERVA engine to ferry crew, spacecraft and supplies between low Earth orbit and lunar orbit, geosynchronous orbit, or to other planets in the solar system.
The tug and ferry vehicles would be of a modular design, allowing them to be clustered and/or staged for large payloads or interplanetary missions. The system would be supported by permanent Earth and lunar orbital propellant depots. The Saturn V might still have been used as a heavy lift launch vehicle for the nuclear ferry and space station modules. A special "Mars Excursion Module" would be the only remaining vehicle necessary for a human Mars landing.
As Apollo accomplished its objective of landing the first men on the Moon, political support for further manned space activities began to wane, which was reflected in unwillingness of the Congress to provide funding for most of these extended activities. Based on this, Nixon rejected all parts of the program except the Space Shuttle which inherited the STS name. As funded, the Shuttle was greatly scaled back from its planned degree of reusabliilty, and deferred in time. The Shuttle first flew in 1981, and was retired in 2011.
A second part of the system, Space Station Freedom, was approved in the early 1980s and announced in 1984 by president Ronald Reagan. However, this also became politically unviable by 1993, and was replaced with the International Space Station, with substantial contribution by Russia. The ISS was completed in 2010.

Apollo 10 was the fourth manned mission in the United States Apollo space program. It was an F type mission—its purpose was to be a "dry run" for the Apollo 11 mission, testing all of the procedures and components of a Moon landing without actually landing on the Moon itself. The mission included the second crew to orbit the Moon and an all-up test of the lunar module (LM) in lunar orbit. The LM came to within 8.4 nautical miles (15.6 km) of the lunar surface during practice maneuvers.
According to the 2002 Guinness World Records, Apollo 10 set the record for the highest speed attained by a manned vehicle at 39,897 km/h (11.08 km/s or 24,791 mph) during the return from the Moon on May 26, 1969.
Due to the use of their names as call signs, the Peanuts characters Charlie Brown and Snoopy became semi-official mascots for the mission. Peanuts creator Charles Schulz also drew some special mission-related artwork for NASA...
Mission highlights
This dress rehearsal for a Moon landing brought Stafford and Cernan's lunar module Snoopy to 8.4 nautical miles (15.6 km) from the lunar surface. The low approach orbit was to refine the lunar gravitational potential needed to calibrate the powered descent guidance system to within 1-nautical-mile (1.9 km) (LR altitude update lock) needed for a landing. Earth-based observations, unmanned spacecraft, and Apollo 8 respectively had allowed calibration to 200 nautical miles (370 km), 20 nautical miles (37 km), and 5 nautical miles (9.3 km). Except for that final stretch, the mission went exactly as a landing would have gone, both in space and on the ground, putting Apollo's extensive tracking and control network through a dry run.
Shortly after leaving low Earth orbit, the command/service module separated from the S-IVB stage, turned around, and docked its nose to the top of the lunar module still nestled in the S-IVB. The CSM/LM stack then separated from the S-IVB for the trip to the Moon.
Apollo 10 was the first to carry a color television camera inside the spacecraft, and made the first live color TV broadcasts from space.
Upon reaching lunar orbit, Young remained alone in the command module Charlie Brown while Stafford and Cernan flew separately in the LM. The LM crew checked out their craft's radar and ascent engine, rode out a momentary gyration in the lunar lander's motion (due to a faulty switch setting), and surveyed the Apollo 11 landing site in the Sea of Tranquility. NASA took special precaution to ensure Stafford and Cernan would not attempt to make the first landing. According to Cernan, "A lot of people thought about the kind of people we were: 'Don't give those guys an opportunity to land, 'cause they might!' So the ascent module, the part we lifted off the lunar surface with, was short-fueled. The fuel tanks weren't full. So had we literally tried to land on the Moon, we couldn't have gotten off." The fueled Apollo 10 LM weighed 30,735 pounds (13,941 kg), compared to 33,278 pounds (15,095 kg) for the Apollo 11 LM which made the first landing.
Splashdown occurred in the Pacific Ocean on May 26, 1969 at 16:52:23 UTC, approximately 400 nautical miles (740 km) east of American Samoa. The astronauts were recovered by the USS Princeton, and subsequently flown to Pago Pago International Airport in Tafuna for a greeting reception, before being flown on a C-141 cargo plane to Honolulu.
Hardware disposition
The LM Snoopy's descent stage was left in orbit, but eventually crashed onto the lunar surface because of the Moon's non-uniform gravitational field; its location was not tracked.
After being jettisoned, Snoopy's ascent stage flew on a trajectory past the Moon into a heliocentric orbit, making it the sole intact Lunar Module ascent stage remaining of the 10 LMs sent into space...
The Command Module Charlie Brown is currently on loan to the Science Museum in London...

It's very hard to accept the cruelty of the soldiers that prevented the fishermen from hauling their nets,
This aggresion is unacceptable.
After this hard attack we went back inside the 3 miles. Then, in the afternoon, we decided to pass again the 3 miles limit just with our trawler, while the other two trawlers continued fishing inside the 3 miles. We reached 4,5 miles offshores, the Israeli navy attacked us hardly with water cannons again and we went back inside the 3 miles.
Inside the three miles there is no fish,so this limit deprive the fishermen of their livelihood.
Often the Israeli navy attacks the fishermen also inside the 3 miles limit, arrest them and confiscates their boats.
" Israel's attacks against Palestinian fishermen in the Gaza Strip constitutes a flagrant violation of international humanitarian and human rights law, especially the right to life and security of the person, in accordance with Article 3 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and Article 6 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, to which the State of Israel is a party. IOF perpetrated violations against Palestinian fishermen in the sea, when these fishermen did not pose any threat to Israeli naval troops. The fishermen were practicing their right to work and seeking their livelihood within the territorial waters of the Gaza Strip when the IOF attacked them.
Israeli forces illegally reduced the area of fishing gradually from 20 nautical miles, which was established under the Oslo Accords, to 10 nautical miles in 2005. In June 2006, IOF imposed a total siege for months, and opened it later permitting fishermen to fish within a 6-nautical-mile limit, which was then reduced to 3 nautical miles in 2007. However, Israeli forces continue to attack Palestinian fishermen even within the 3 nautical miles since 2009. Fishermen are subjected to shootings, resulting in deaths and injuries, they are often chased, arrested, unnecessarily inspected, humiliated, and even their boats and fishing equipment are confiscated, which are sometimes drowned or destroyed by IOF "

Gemini 7 & Gemini 6: "Proud Conquest" 1966 NASA ( Gemini VI - Gemini VII )
more at http://scitech.quickfound.net/astro/nasa_news.html
Reupload of a previously uploaded film with improved sound and video, and all in one piece instead of parts.
"Astronauts Borman, Lovell, Schirra and Stafford tell about the first rendezvous of two manned spacecraft. The unprecedented pad turnaround at Cape Kennedy and President Johnson's press conference following the event are included."
Public domain film from NASA, slightly cropped to remove uneven edges, with the aspect ratio corrected, and 1-pass exposure & color correction applied (cannot be ideal in all scenes).
The soundtrack was also processed with volume normalization, noise reduction, clipping reduction, and/or equalization (the resulting sound, though not perfect, is far less noisy than the original).
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gemini_7
Gemini 7 (officially Gemini VII) was a 1965 manned spaceflight in NASA's Gemini program. It was the 4th manned Gemini flight, the 12th manned American flight and the 20th spaceflight of all time (includes X-15 flights over 100 kilometers (330,000 ft)). The crew of Frank F. Borman, II and James A. Lovell, Jr spent nearly 14 days in space making a total of 206 orbits, and were joined on orbit by the Gemini-6A flight which performed the first rendezvous maneuver of manned spacecraft.
Objectives
Gemini 7 was originally intended to fly after Gemini 6, but the original Gemini 6 mission was cancelled after the failure during launch of the Agena Target Vehicle with which it was meant to rendezvous and dock. The objective of rendezvous was so important, that it was decided to fly Gemini 6 at the same time as Gemini 7, using the latter as the rendezvous target...
This 14 day mission required NASA to solve problems of long-duration space flight... The astronauts also evaluated a new lightweight spacesuit, which proved uncomfortable if worn for a long time in Gemini's hot, cramped quarters. The high point of the mission was the rendezvous with Gemini VI. But the three days that followed were something of an endurance test, and both astronauts, heeding Pete Conrad's Gemini V advice, brought books along. Gemini VII was the longest space flight in U.S. history until the Skylab missions of the 1970s.
Flight
The launch and ascent were nominal...
They spent the rest of their first day in space doing some experiments and eating their first meal... For the first time during a flight, one of the crew was allowed to take off his suit. Borman and Lovell had planned to both take them off two days into the mission when they were satisfied that the environmental system was working properly. The NASA managers did not like this idea and said that at least one crew member had to be wearing a suit at all times. Borman was wearing his suit and was sweating profusely, but agreed to let Lovell stay out his suit as Lovell was the larger of the two and it required a lot of effort to get in and out of a suit in little more space than the front seat of a car.
Later the flight controllers ordered Lovell to don his suit and Borman to get out of his. This was because the doctors wanted to see the effects of being suited and unsuited on the crewmembers. So 148 hours into the flight, Borman got his chance to cool down. Finally the NASA managers decided that there was little benefit in having the crew members suited and so relented after a couple of days...
On their 31st orbit Gemini 7 observed the underwater launch, missile and exhaust trail of a Polaris Missile from the submarine USS Benjamin Franklin off Florida...
Rendezvous
Gemini 6A launched December 15...
The plan called for the rendezvous to take place on the fourth orbit of Gemini 6A...
The radar on Gemini 6A first made contact with Gemini 7 at 3 hours and 15 minutes when they were 234 nautical miles (433 km) away. A third burn put them into a 146-by-148-nautical-mile (270 by 274 km) orbit. As they slowly gained, Walter Schirra put Gemini 6A's computer in charge of the rendezvous, and at 5 hours and 4 minutes, he saw a bright object that he at first thought was the star Sirius, but was in fact Gemini 7.
After several more burns the two spacecraft were only 130 feet (40 m) apart. The burns had only used 110 pounds (50 kg) of fuel on Gemini 6A, leaving plenty of fuel. During the next 270 minutes the crews moved as close as 1 foot (30 cm), talking over the radio...
Gemini 6A reentered the next day, landing within 9.7 nautical miles (18.0 km) of the planned site, the first truly accurate atmospheric reentry...
By this time the novelty of spaceflight had worn off for the crew of Gemini 7. They had spent 11 days in space and had three more to go... Finally the last day of the mission arrived and the crew stored everything for re-entry. The retro-rockets worked perfectly after 14 days in space. They landed within 6.4 nautical miles (11.9 km) of the targeted landing point.

Once the whale was unable to dive, the team quickly got to work cutting line free. When the first line was cut, the rest of the rope loosened and unravelled, freeing the whale.
Free of the entanglement, the whale dived and swam away off strongly.
“The whale appeared healthy and strong throughout the operation which took an hour,” said Mike Meyer, head of SAWDN.

Student Pilot First 25 Nautical Mile Cross Country Solo
First 25 NM Solo Cross country from KCBF to KRDK. I apologize for the mic audio, while their was a constant static. Before this video I did do all run up procedures, and followed with two touch and goes with my flight instructor.
As a student pilot I've learned a lot over the past 5 months in my flight training. Nothing could have prepared me for stuttering the traffic pattern call sign "Red Oak" as bad as I did. I've dealt with a stuttering problem all my life, and nothing will stop me from chasing my dreams of becoming a commercial pilot!

Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race 2014 Film
Celebrating its 70th edition in 2014, the Rolex Sydney Hobart Race brought together offshore sailors from around the world for a regatta ripe with adventure, teamwork and intense action. The 628-nautical-mile race demanded unwavering determination and extraordinary seamanship skills from all those who were brave enough to take on the challenge. This historic 70th edition saw the largest Super Maxi Fleet ever, with five 100-foot boats in the running, as well as an exciting duel between two of the most powerful monohull yachts in the world: Wild Oats XI and Comanche. Wild Oats XI ended up taking home her eighth record-breaking line honours title, while the overall victory went to a Rolex Sydney Hobart legend: Roger Hickman, owner of Wild Rose, who left with the coveted Tattersalls cup.

ULTIMATE FISHING - The Big Day Out
The Big Day Out
This was a day to remember, we set out on a 140 nautical mile round trip in a seven meter boat, on our hit list was big kingfish, big giant bass, mako sharks, blue marlin and black marlin... it would be one big day if we encountered it all in a day, and we got off to an amazing start. Try not to be bamboozled by the full-on action, because there is plenty of tips and tricks woven in too.

SAWDN hangklip
At 08h28 on Wednesday the 1st of July, the South African Whale Disentanglement Network (SAWDN) responded to 1 nautical mile off Hangklip, False Bay following reports of a Humpback whale entangled in rope and buoys
On arrival on-scene at 12h47, the 8 meter and approximately 1 year old Humpback whale was found to be entangled in rope and floatation buoys.
To keep the whale in reach of a rescue effort, the SAWDN volunteers attached larger floatation buoys to the whale effectively floating it and keeping it from being able to dive out of reach of the team.
THE SOUTH AFRICAN WHALE DISENTANGLEMENT NETWORK IS A VOLUNTEER NETWORK THAT BEGAN IN 2006 MADE UP OF VOLUNTEERS FROM THE DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENT – OCEANS AND COASTS, NSRI, THE DOLPHIN ACTION AND PROTECTION GROUP, TELKOM MARITIME RADIO SERVICES, SA NATIONAL PARKS, THE SA POLICE SERVICES, RESEARCH ORGANISATIONS, THE NATAL SHARKS BOARD, TABLE MOUNTAIN NATIONAL PARKS, WEST COAST WILDLIFE RESCUE AND A HOST OF VARIOUS MARINE AND ENVIRONMENTAL GROUPS.
