Pingles is an old clay pool situated in rural fenland and it is full of beautiful, fat Mirrors and Commons. It has been twenty years since I last fished and laid eyes upon this lovely little pool and in those following years many fish had been added and grown on with the olduns. The lilies had taken over all of the shallow margins and bars while some of the old mighty trees had crashed into the lake margins. Renowned for it's moods and the ever-surprising fenland weather the pool has an atmosphere all of it's own. Since I would be unable to fish this pool much during the months of June, July and August 2009 due to commitments on other lakes Gary the syndicate leader had kindly offered me the chance of fishing and filming while the water was in close-season. Winter was upon us without the usual autumnal low pressure systems giving us those wonderful high winds and racing grey Skys. With high pressure and constant sunshine sport had died on Pingles pool and getting a bite had been very tough indeed. Then like manna from heaven a huge low pressure system moved in from the south west and blew the hell outta the trees leaving them stripped. The high winds and rain continued all week until the Sunday morning when i awoke to find sunshine and calm, time to get the rods out! It's the second week 'proper' of my bivving up and we start on the bar with high expectations! I have my chest waders with me and I get out on the back of the bar for a good raking session. Baiting up with 'The seeds of the gods' and the 'The Goodness' I have every confidence that the feast I have laid out on my meticulously prepared 'table' will get the right response! However, there is a fatal floor in my plan! I have been spotted and I am already the target of a much, much greedier foe than the carp!
