Commissioner: Boston Police Officer ‘Fighting For His Life’ After Roxbury Shooting, Suspect Dead. March 27, 2015. Video Report: Press Conference (Boston) A Boston Police officer was shot in Roxbury just after 6:40 p.m. Friday, Police Commissioner William Evans told reporters at Boston Medical Center. The officer was taken to the hospital with a gunshot wound just under his right eye, Evans said, describing his condition as “critical.” The officer is “fighting for his life right now,” he said, adding that the scene remains “very active.” “When he initially came in he was responsive,” Evans said. “But he’s in...basically an induced coma at this time and they’re examining the extent of his injuries.” The suspected shooter was shot and killed, according to police. Investigators said they recovered a gun they believe was used to shoot the officer in the suspect’s possession. Officers with the city’s Youth Violence Task Force reportedly pulled over a vehicle near the intersection of Humboldt Avenue and Ruthven Street, Evans said. As officers exited their car, an occupant exited the pulled-over vehicle and immediately opened fire. “It was a case of a motor vehicle stop with the suspect coming out [and] firing at officers before they had any time to react,” Evans said. He said he wasn’t sure what prompted the vehicle stop. Another woman was also treated for a flesh wound on her arm, Evans said. “I think she got caught up in the crossfire,” he said. “She is in good spirits, thank God.” Three other officers were brought to Brigham and Women’s for treatment for stress from the incident, Evans said. Two other people in the car are being questioned in the case, though it is not clear if police will charge them with any crime. Evans said he would not release the identity of the officer at this time, but described him as a “highly decorated military vet” and one of the Youth Violence Task Force’s “most outstanding officers.” “Knock on wood, we don’t have these incidents happen often,” Evans said. “But we’ve got too many guns out there, too many young kids running around with guns.
