The New England town is the basic unit of local government in each of the six New England states. Without a direct counterpart in most other U.S. states, New England towns are conceptually similar to civil townships in other states, but are incorporated, possessing powers like cities in other states. New England towns are often governed by town meeting. Virtually all corporate municipalities in New England are based on the town model; statutory forms based on the concept of a compact populated place, which is prevalent elsewhere in the U.S., are uncommon. County government in New England states is typically weak, sometimes even non-existent; for example, Connecticut and Rhode Island retain counties only as geographic subdivisions that have no governmental authority, while Massachusetts has abolished eight of fourteen county governments so far.
Towns date back to the time of the earliest European colonial settlement of New England, and pre-date the development of counties in the region. Throughout the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries, as areas were settled, they would be organized into towns. Town boundaries were not usually laid out on any kind of regular grid, but were drawn up to reflect local settlement and transportation patterns or natural features. In early colonial times, recognition of towns was very informal, sometimes connected to local church divisions. By 1700, colonial governments had become more involved in the official establishment of new towns. Towns were typically governed by a town meeting form of government, as many still are today. Towns originally were the only form of incorporated municipality in New England. The city form of government was not introduced until much later. Boston, for instance, widely regarded as the unofficial capital of New England, was a town for the first two centuries of its existence.
New England is a region in the northeastern corner of the United States consisting of the six states of Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Connecticut. New England is bordered by the Atlantic Ocean, Canada (the Canadian Maritimes and Quebec) and the state of New York.
In one of the earliest English settlements in North America, Pilgrims from England first settled in New England in 1620, to form Plymouth Colony. Ten years later, the Puritans settled north of Plymouth Colony in Boston, thus forming Massachusetts Bay Colony. Over the next 130 years, New England fought in four French and Indian Wars, until the British defeated the French and their native allies in North America. In the late 18th century, the New England Colonies initiated the resistance to the British Parliament's efforts to impose new taxes without the consent of the colonists. The Boston Tea Party was a protest that angered Great Britain, which responded with the "Intolerable Acts", stripping the colonies of self-government. The confrontation led to open warfare in 1775, the expulsion of the British from New England in spring 1776, and the Declaration of Independence in July 1776.
England i/ˈɪŋɡlənd/ is a country that is part of the United Kingdom. It shares land borders with Scotland to the north and Wales to the west; the Irish Sea is to the north west, the Celtic Sea to the south west, while the North Sea to the east and the English Channel to the south separate it from continental Europe. Most of England comprises the central and southern part of the island of Great Britain in the North Atlantic. The country also includes over 100 smaller islands such as the Isles of Scilly and the Isle of Wight.
The area now called England was first inhabited by modern humans during the Upper Palaeolithic period, but it takes its name from the Angles, one of the Germanic tribes who settled during the 5th and 6th centuries. England became a unified state in AD 927, and since the Age of Discovery, which began during the 15th century, has had a significant cultural and legal impact on the wider world. The English language, the Anglican Church, and English law—the basis for the common law legal systems of many other countries around the world—developed in England, and the country's parliamentary system of government has been widely adopted by other nations. The Industrial Revolution began in 18th-century England, transforming its society into the world's first industrialised nation. England's Royal Society laid the foundations of modern experimental science.
new town reeks of lumber
new town beat the crowds
new town kittens discover
that the birds scrape the ground
and even the loneliest old ladies get social calls
where they dine and talk about their savior
and the grassroots effort to incorporate
elects a smiling mayor
new town Americana
new town rookie police
new town industries are wanted for the local employees
and a little bitty baby draws a nice clean breath
from over his beaming momma's shoulder
he's staring at the worldly wonders
that stretch just as far as he can see
but he'll stop staring when he's older
oh, new town
new town
new town
and even the loneliest old ladies get social calls
where they dine and talk about their savior
and the grassroots effort to incorporate
elects a smiling mayor

New town
There´s a place
A mad affair
In a new world
Heaven send
A life that´s made for us
Out of luck
Out of touch
Out of love
No concrete jungle
Dancing feet
Cul-de-sac of desire
Is in itself
Destroying me
I´ve got to live down
Don´t want to dwell in history
That´s why i´m leaving now
New town
There´s a place
To do or die
In a new world
Heaven sent
A life that´s made for us
Out of luck
Out of touch
Out of love
No laughing boys
Forbidden dreams
No willow weep
For me now
The shadow hanging over me
I´ve got to tear it down
The road goes straight to the town I'm headed for
Pretty cold town that I never seen before
I've trouble on my mind hope this new town will be kind
New people and a new job is what I need to find
New town new town now don't you let me down
I've travelled seven hundred miles
To be where I am bound
New town new town I'd like a chance to stay
Leave behind the old town and live a brand new way
My life isn't easy as I hear the new town call
You're headin for a future or you're ridin for a fall
And all through the day I can hear the old town say
You can't beat your troubles if you run the other way
New town new town now don't you let me down
I've travelled seven hundred miles
To be where I am bound
New town new town I'd like a chance to stay
Leave behind the old town and live a brand new way
Time is dragging as the road stretches on
And while the wheels are turning
My past is further on
And as the trees are going by I wonder what I'll do
And why I left the old town to gamble with a new
New town new town now don't you let me down
I've travelled seven hundred miles
To be where I am bound
New town new town I'd like a chance to stay
Leave behind the old town and live a brand new way
New town new town now don't you let me down
I've travelled seven hundred miles
To be where I am bound
New town new town I'd like a chance to stay
WELL!
the poopsmithe he could talk (hello!)
and marzipan could rock
and the stick would be a big old
tree that ate everyone
exept the cheat and me!
(and me)(we'll see)
and the king of town would be
underground in a box
filled up with peas!! (i hate peas)
( i know!)
Bubs would give away flamethrowers
that shoot chocolate hundered
dollar bills (invitation chocolate)
and my stupid baby
brother would have been born
with horns and a tail (im evil)
and Coach Z would wear his cool
jacket, and homestar just
couldnt hack it (i quit)
and pom pom wouldn't
change at all, so he'd
still be an idiot basketball!
and this little weirdo
would be a modestly
hot girl to help me through the
hard times, you know the
kind that are only sort of
hot so they dont mess around
withb other guys!!!
(uhhh, im forever your
I thought I would send you
The last song I wrote
I thought I'd recommend you
With six words that I wrote
The last time I saw you
Was I don't know when
That's when I knew you
In all places I'd been
Just look around
You're living in the new town
All the faces seem like they're underground
Hey listen can you hear me
Just because you're near me
Let's pretend there's a good chance
Yes and then we'll try romance
It's not the same as it was before
