Vermont 
i/vɜrˈmɒnt/ is a state in the New England region of the northeastern United States. Vermont is the 6th least extensive and the 2nd least populous of the 50 United States. It is the only New England state not bordering the Atlantic Ocean. Lake Champlain forms half of Vermont's western border, which it shares with the state of New York. The Green Mountains are within the state. Vermont is bordered by Massachusetts to the south, New Hampshire to the east, New York to the west, and the Canadian province of Quebec to the north.
Originally inhabited by two major Native American tribes (the Algonquian-speaking Abenaki and the Iroquois), much of the territory that is now Vermont was claimed by France during its early colonial period. France ceded the territory to the Kingdom of Great Britain after being defeated in 1763 in the Seven Years' War (also called the French and Indian War). For many years, the nearby colonies, especially New Hampshire and New York, disputed control of the area (then called the New Hampshire Grants). Settlers who held land titles granted by these colonies were opposed by the Green Mountain Boys militia, which eventually prevailed in creating an independent state, the Vermont Republic. Founded in 1777 during the Revolutionary War, the republic lasted for fourteen years. Vermont is one of seventeen U.S. states (along with Texas, Hawaii, the brief California Republic, and each of the original Thirteen Colonies) to have had a sovereign government in the past. In 1791, Vermont joined the United States as the 14th state, the first outside the original 13 Colonies. It abolished slavery while still independent, and upon joining the Union became the first state to have done so.

The Bennington Center for the Arts is a non-profit full-spectrum art center built by local philanthropist Bruce Laumeister and wife Elizabeth Small. Much of the artwork that that couple has collected over the years from galleries around the country hangs in the galleries and stairwells when temporary exhibits are not on display.
Paintings and bronzes of and by Native Americans dominated the collection in the beginning, along with a very large collection of Navajo rugs, pots, kachinas and jewelry but many exceptional paintings from the fifteen Art of the Animal Kingdom exhibitions have been added to that collection and are often on display as well. These include artwork by such notable artists as Bob Kuhn, Richard Schmid, Charles Frace, Carl Brenders, Morten Solberg and Manfred Schatz. In 1997 an additional two galleries and an executive boardroom were added. 2003 marked the addition of The Covered Bridge Museum, paying homage to these structures throughout recent history but specifically in Vermont where to this day there are 104 working covered bridges. In 2008 a final wing consisting of three more galleries, two workshop spaces, an artist apartment and administrative offices was officially opened.
Since its opening The Bennington has been very fortunate in bringing to the Galleries some of the finest exhibitions in the country, starting with the Society of Animal Artist annual show our first fall. The organizations we have hosted include the Plein Air Painters of America, the American Watercolor Society, the New England Watercolor Society, the Allied Artists of America, the American Academy of Women Artists, the Pastel Society of America, Arts for the Parks and additional shows by SAA. We have also exhibited a one-man show for Richard Schmid and we have curated many of our own shows annually including Art of the Animal Kingdom, Impressions of New England, Artists for the New Century (with the help of Southwest Art, American Art Collector, Art of the West and Fine Art Connoisseur), American Artists Abroad and our newest annual show, the Laumeister Fine Art Competition. The Center has also been the only East coast venue to host the California Art Club.
The goal of The Bennington is to bring world-class art to the residents and visitors of New England and with the support of the art community we feel we are achieving this goal.

This is just a short amateur video I shot of the West River Farmers Market in Londonderry Vermont during a weekend visit in late June, 2013.

Lots of interesting things to check out: pastry; fresh cheeses (some great stuff!) farm fresh fruit and vegetables. Also features some artists and jewelry makers.
Very fun place to visit Saturdays from 9 AM to 1PM.

This is just a short amateur video I shot of the West River Farmers Market in Londonderry Vermont during a weekend visit in late June, 2013.
Visitors and tourists can find it on the banks of the West River at the crossroads of Rtes 100 and 11 in Londonderry, VT. It's approximately in the center of Southern Vermont. Lots of interesting things to check out: pastry; fresh cheeses (some great stuff!) farm fresh fruit and vegetables. Also features some artists and jewelry makers.
Very fun place to visit Saturdays from 9 AM to 1PM.

The Vermont Veterans Home property includes a public picnic area and an enclosed area known as the Deer Park. The picnic area has long been a stopping point for residents and visitors alike. This area includes spacious lawns, shade trees, a pond, and picnic tables as well as a close view of the deer yard.
The deer yard enclosure is home to approximately 10 white tail deer. The Veterans Home staff cares for the deer herd year round. It has been a source of great interest for thousands of visitors annually

The Robert Frost Stone House Museum is a literary landmark, only minutes away from Frost's gravesite in Bennington. It was opened in 2002 to honor America's favorite poet. Frost lived in the Stone House in South Shaftsbury, Vermont from 1920 to 1929. Here, Frost composed many of the pieces that became part of New Hampshire, his first Pulitzer Prize winning volume that included "Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening."

A video from 1985 shows Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) making favorable statements regarding Cuban dictator Fidel Castro when Sanders was mayor of Burlington, Vermont. The statements took place during an Aug. 8, 1985 interview on the CCTV Center for Media & Democracy’s Channel 17/ Town Meeting Television, Chittenden County’s local government access station. During the interview, Sanders discussed his recent trip to Nicaragua, marking the sixth anniversary of the Sandinista revolution, and drew parallels between Castro’s regime and the Nicaraguan Sandinista regime of Daniel Ortega. “In 1961, [America] invaded Cuba, and everybody was totally convinced that Castro was the worst guy in the world,” said Sanders. “All the Cuban people were going to rise up in rebellion against Fidel Castro. They forgot that he educated their kids, gave their kids health care, totally transformed society,” he said.
“You know, not to say Fidel Castro and Cuba are perfect - they are certainly not - but just because Ronald Reagan dislikes these people does not mean to say the people in these nations feel the same,” continued Sanders. During the interview, Sanders also discussed some of the officials he met with in Nicaragua. In reference to Nicaragua’s Foreign Minister Miguel d'Escoto Brockmann, Sanders said, “I was impressed by Father d'Escoto.” “If this guy is the foreign minister of a 'terrorist nation,' then they should get another foreign minister, because he is a very gentle, very loving man,” said Sanders. He referred to Ortega as “an impressive guy.” Sanders was also strongly critical of then-President Ronald Reagan. “The Sandinista government, in my view, has more support among the Nicaraguan people, substantially more support, than Ronald Reagan has among the American people,” said Sanders.
“If President Reagan thinks that any time a government comes along, which in its wisdom, rightly or wrongly, is doing the best for its people, he has the right to overthrow that government, you're going to be at war not only with all of Latin America, but with the entire Third World,” he said. Ortega currently serves as president of Nicaragua. Castro stepped down as president of Cuba in 2008 and transferred power to his brother Raúl. Sanders is currently running to be the Democratic nominee for president of the United States.

A state judge in Vermont dismissed fugitive charges Thursday against actor Randy Quaid and his wife, and their lawyer indicated they would return to California to face 5-year-old felony charges.
Quaid and his wife, Evi, were arrested last week while trying to cross into the United States from Canada. They had lived in Canada since 2010, when Randy Quaid was charged with vandalism and unauthorized entry in Santa Barbara, California, where he and his wife were found squatting in a guest house of a home they contended they still owned.
Santa Barbara County, California, District Attorney Joyce Dudley told The Free Press of Burlington, Vermont, that she hadn't yet reviewed the ruling.
The Quaids were initially held on $500,000 bail each when they were arrested last week. Vermont Superior Court Judge Alison Arms later reduced the bond to $50,000, and on Thursday she dismissed it completely, saying she had found no probable cause to hold the couple or to extradite them to California as fugitives.
