While many if not most organizations are in the early stages of developing and deploying transformation strategies, Williams, an energy infrastructure concern, is knee deep in a major transformation of its core business, and therefore of IT as well. Transformation there has proven to be more of a continuing journey than a goal, with measurable results. Enterprise CIO Forum content director Bill Laberis interviews Williams CIO Dru Rai.
Growth will be a key factor to strong investment performance in a rising rate environment and securities without growth will be challenged to provide reasonable returns, says Jim Cunnane, portfolio manager for the Advisory Research MLP & Energy Income Fund. Cunnane says the strong growth story behind energy infrastructure will likely support MLP prices even if rates spike over the course of 2014. Among Cunane's favorite MLPs are Energy Transfer Equity, Crestwood Equity Partners and Williams Companies. Shares of oil pipeline operator Williams Companies (WMB) soared 26 percent on Monday, after announcing on Sunday that's its exploring strategic options. The stock is TheStreet's Move of the Day. That announcement came on the heels of the company rejecting a takeover bid from Energy Transfer Equity (ETE) of $64 per share, which is a 32 percent premium to Williams closing price on Friday. Williams said the offer is not in line with the growth Williams is forecasting. In its release, the company did not specifically reference Energy Transfer Equity. Energy Transfer Equity confirmed its offer for Williams Companies on Monday and said the company had reached out on several occasions over the past six months regarding a merger. But Williams remained silent on the offers, until its public stateme...

There are plenty of places to find high dividend stocks with growth potential if you look hard enough, says Brian Hennessey, portfolio manager for the Alpine Dynamic Dividend Fund. Among Hennessey's favorite dividend paying companies is automobile auctioneer KAR Auction Services, which boasts a yield of 3.6%. Hennessey is also bullish on natural gas pipeline player Williams Companies, which is up this year due to the cold snap, even as the rest of the market is down. Hennessey also says Vodaphone shareholders should stick with the company even after pocketing a special payout from the sale of Verizon Wireless. TheStreet’s Action Alerts PLUS Portfolio Manager Jim Cramer isn’t too fond of Williams-Sonoma (WSM), which posted disappointing fiscal fourth quarter results on Wednesday and weaker than expected first quarter guidance. ‘A stock that I have been so negative on justifies the negativity – which is Williams-Sonoma,’ Cramer said. ‘The company has to stop making excuses.’ Cramer said he prefers swapping out Williams-Sonoma for TJX Companies (TJX) and Urban Outfitters (URBN). Shares of Williams-Sonoma lost 5.3 percent since the start of the year, while TJX Companies and Urban Outfitters gained 8.2 percent and 42 percent, respectively, during the same period. Nashville, Tenn --- Darius Williams says he only comes to Advance Financial when he really needs the money. That's what brought him to the payday loan business on Rosa Parks Tuesday afternoon. "Just getting a little extra cash. The holidays and everything are coming up," said Williams. Companies like Advance Financial provide money in advance of your paycheck for a fee. You can find them all over Nashville and sometimes there are several on a block. Tuesday night Metro Council made a change that will prevent that from happening in the future. "These businesses when you see an abundance of them it is a sign and indicator of a declining community," said Council Member Jacobia Dowell. Dowell is the sponsor of a bill the Council approved Tuesday that limits new payday lo...

Twitter Co-Founder Evan Williams Reveals Secret Formula for Getting Rich Online EV WILLIAMS HAS figured out the internet. That’s what he told the gathered tech heads at the recent XOXO conference in Portland, Oregon, and while he may have said this with tongue partly in cheek, he spent the next 30 minutes unloading his unified theory of the global computer network, an interpretation formed after 20 years of hard thinking — to say nothing of his experience creating seminal internet companies Blogger and Twitter. http://www.wired.com/2013/09/ev-williams-xoxo/ In his speech, Williams explained what the internet is, how it works, and how to get rich from it. Truth be told, Williams is not the best public speaker, but his message was clear: At a time when so many internet entrepreneurs are ru...
