On February 3rd, Google celebrates the anniversary of the coldest temperature ever recorded in Canada with a Doodle.
On February 3, 1947, the record-low temperature for continental North America was recorded in Snag: -63.9 °C (-83.0 °F). That same winter, two previous records had already been set: one set in December note of various phenomena, particularly sound such as voices being heard clearly miles from their source. There was a clear sky (except for some ice fog), and mild to little wind. There were 38.1 centimetres (15.0 in) of snow on the ground, but was decreasing. Another town 180 km (112 mi) northeast of Snag, Fort Selkirk, claimed an even lower temperature of -65 °C (-85 °F), but the claim could not be confirmed.

Listen as Sook-Yin Lee from the CBC radio show DNTO interviews Gordon Toole. He's the man who measured Canada's lowest ever observed temperature in Snag, Yukon Territory. It's very interesting to hear him describe the ground-level "contrail" or mixing cloud that can form from your breath as you walk along in those cold temperatures.

There are many places in the world that are full of extreme climates that are too tough for human habitation. The extreme do vary from one another. Some places are experiencing hottest climatic conditions while some coldest climate. The places having lowest temperature on earth will experience cold climate. Here are 10 coldest places in the world.
1.Vostok
This is a Russian Antarctic research station located at the southern Pole of Cold. The coldest month is August with lowest and reliable natural temperature of -128.6 degrees Fahrenheit.
2.Plateau Station
The second coldest place in the world after Vostok is Plateau Station in Antarctica. The coldest month of Plateau Station is July and the least temperature recorded was -119.2 degrees Fahrenheit.
3.Verkhoyansk
Verkhoyansk is popularly for its exceptionally low winter temperatures in Russia and some of the extreme temperature differences between summer and winter in the world. It is one of the places recognized as the northern Pole of Cold with lowest temperature record in February 1892 (-93.6 degrees Fahrenheit).
4.North Ice
This was a research station of the British North Greenland Expedition in Greenland. North ice was recorded as the fifth coldest place in the world with lowest temperature of -86.8 degrees Fahrenheit.
5.Eismitte
German always refers to Eismitte as Ice Center. As its name, so is it. Eismitte is located on the interior Arctic side of Greenland with ice everywhere. This place is rightfully known as Mid-Ice or Center-Ice. The coldest temperature was recorded during the expedition period (-85degrees Fahrenheit).
6.Snag – Yukon
Snag is a village situated on small dry weather at the side road off Alaska Highway. It is about 25 km south of Beaver Creek, Yukon in Canada. The weather is extremely chilly and freezing. The coldest month is January with -81.4 degrees Fahrenheit.
7.Prospect Creek
Prospect Creek is a small place located at about 180 miles north of current Fairbanks but about 25 miles away from southeast of the current Bettles in Alaska. The creek contains sub-arctic kind of weather where winters last for a long period of time and summer at shorter period. The temperature is -80 degrees Fahrenheit.
8.Fort Selkirk
Fort Selkirk is the old trading post on Yukon River situated at the confluence of Pelly River in Canada’s Yukon. As a result of the extreme cold climatic condition, the place was deserted in 1950 but now, it is accessible without any road access. Majority of the visitors visit the place by boat or place. Out of 12 months in a year, January is the coldest month in Fort Selkirk when there is lowest temperature – 74 degree Fahrenheit.
9.Oymyakon
One of the candidates of the northern pole of cold is Oymyakon. Oymyakon ground freeze permanently. A Russian scientist, Sergey Obrychey recorded the lowest temperature as -71.2 degrees Fahrenheit at the weather station of Oymyakon
10.Rogers Pass
Rogers Pass is 5,610 feet higher than the sea level and it is situated on the continental dividing the Montana in USA. Rogers Pass is the place where coldest temperature has ever recorded outside of Alaska in USA. In spite of the severe cold wave on January 20, 1954, a low temperature of -70 degree Fahrenheit was recorded in Rogers Pass.

Yukon/ˈjuːkɒn/ is the westernmost and smallest of Canada's three federal territories.
The territory was created from the rump of the Hudson's Bay Company's North-Western Territory in 1898 as "the Yukon". Receiving royal assent on March 27, 2002, the federal government moderized the Yukon Act to confirm "Yukon", rather than "Yukon Territory", as the current usage standard. Though officially bilingual (English and French) the Yukon Government also recognizes First Nations languages.
At 5,959 m (19,551 ft), Yukon's Mount Logan, in Kluane National Park and Reserve, is the highest mountain in Canada and the second-highest of North America (after Mount McKinley in the U.S. state of Alaska). The territory's climate is Arctic and subarctic, resulting in long cold winters, short summers, and little precipitation.
It was named after the Yukon River. The word Yukon means "Great River" in Gwich’in.
The territory is the approximate shape of a right triangle, bordering the U.S. state of Alaska to the west for 1,210 km (752 mi) mostly along longitude 141° W, the Northwest Territories to the east and British Columbia to the south. Its northern coast is on the Beaufort Sea. Its ragged eastern boundary mostly follows the divide between the Yukon Basin and the Mackenzie River drainage basin to the east in the Mackenzie mountains. Whitehorse is the territorial capital.

The coldest month of Plateau Station is July and the least temperature recorded was -119.2 degrees Fahrenheit. 3.Verkhoyansk Verkhoyansk is popularly for its exceptionally low winter temperatures in Russia and some of the extreme temperature differences between summer and winter in the world. It is one of the places recognized as the northern Pole of Cold with lowest temperature record in February 1892 (-93.6 degrees Fahrenheit). 4.North Ice This was a research station of the British North Greenland Expedition in Greenland. North ice was recorded as the fifth coldest place in the world with lowest temperature of -86.8 degrees Fahrenheit. 5.Eismitte German always refers to Eismitte as Ice Center. As its name, so is it. Eismitte is located on the interior Arctic side of Greenland with ice everywhere. This place is rightfully known as Mid-Ice or Center-Ice. The coldest temperature was recorded during the expedition period (-85degrees Fahrenheit). 6.Snag – Yukon Snag is a village situated on small dry weather at the side road off Alaska Highway. It is about 25 km south of Beaver Creek, Yukon in Canada. The weather is extremely chilly and freezing. The coldest month is January with -81.4 degrees Fahrenheit. 7.Prospect Creek Prospect Creek is a small place located at about 180 miles north of current Fairbanks but about 25 miles away from southeast of the current Bettles in Alaska. The creek contains sub-arctic kind of weather where winters last for a long period of time and summer at shorter period. The temperature is -80 degrees Fahrenheit. 8.Fort Selkirk Fort Selkirk is the old trading post on Yukon River situated at the confluence of Pelly River in Canada’s Yukon. As a result of the extreme cold climatic condition, the place was deserted in 1950 but now, it is accessible without any road access. Majority of the visitors visit the place by boat or place. Out of 12 months in a year, January is the coldest month in Fort Selkirk when there is lowest temperature – 74 degree Fahrenheit. 9.Oymyakon One of the candidates of the northern pole of cold is Oymyakon. Oymyakon ground freeze permanently. A Russian scientist, Sergey Obrychey recorded the lowest temperature as -71.2 degrees Fahrenheit at the weather station of Oymyakon 10.Rogers Pass Rogers Pass is 5,610 feet higher than the sea level and it is situated on the continental dividing the Montana in USA. Rogers Pass is the place where coldest temperature has ever recorded outside of Alaska in USA. Prospect Creek, Alaska / USA – This place experiences sub-arctic climates with the long winter and short summer. On February 3rd, Google celebrates the anniversary of the coldest temperature ever recorded in Canada with a Doodle. On February 3, 1947, the record-low temperature for continental North America was recorded in Snag: -63.9 °C (-83.0 °F). That same winter, two previous records had already been set: one set in December note of various phenomena, particularly sound such as voices being heard clearly miles from their source. There was a clear sky (except for some ice fog), and mild to little wind. There were 38.1 centimetres (15.0 in) of snow on the ground, but was decreasing. Another town 180 km (112 mi) northeast of Snag, Fort Selkirk, claimed an even lower temperature of -65 °C (-85 °F), but the claim could not be confirmed. On February 3, 1947, the record-low temperature for continental North America was recorded in Snag: -63.9 °C (-83.0 °F). That same winter, two previous records had already been set: one set in December note of various phenomena, particularly sound such as voices being heard clearly miles from their source. There was a clear sky (except for some ice fog), and mild to little wind. There were 38.1 centimetres (15.0 in) of snow on the ground, but was decreasing. Another town 180 km (112 mi) northeast of Snag, Fort Selkirk, claimed an even lower temperature of -65 °C (-85 °F), but the claim could not be confirmed.

Some places are experiencing hottest climatic conditions while some coldest climate. The places having lowest temperature on earth will experience cold climate. Here are 10 coldest places in the world.
1.Vostok
This is a Russian Antarctic research station located at the southern Pole of Cold. The coldest month is August with lowest and reliable natural temperature of -128.6 degrees Fahrenheit.
2.Plateau Station
The second coldest place in the world after Vostok is Plateau Station in Antarctica. The coldest month of Plateau Station is July and the least temperature recorded was -119.2 degrees Fahrenheit.
3.Verkhoyansk
Verkhoyansk is popularly for its exceptionally low winter temperatures in Russia and some of the extreme temperature differences between summer and winter in the world. It is one of the places recognized as the northern Pole of Cold with lowest temperature record in February 1892 (-93.6 degrees Fahrenheit).
4.North Ice
This was a research station of the British North Greenland Expedition in Greenland. North ice was recorded as the fifth coldest place in the world with lowest temperature of -86.8 degrees Fahrenheit.
5.Eismitte
German always refers to Eismitte as Ice Center. As its name, so is it. Eismitte is located on the interior Arctic side of Greenland with ice everywhere. This place is rightfully known as Mid-Ice or Center-Ice. The coldest temperature was recorded during the expedition period (-85degrees Fahrenheit).
6.Snag – Yukon
Snag is a village situated on small dry weather at the side road off Alaska Highway. It is about 25 km south of Beaver Creek, Yukon in Canada. The weather is extremely chilly and freezing. The coldest month is January with -81.4 degrees Fahrenheit.
7.Prospect Creek
Prospect Creek is a small place located at about 180 miles north of current Fairbanks but about 25 miles away from southeast of the current Bettles in Alaska. The creek contains sub-arctic kind of weather where winters last for a long period of time and summer at shorter period. The temperature is -80 degrees Fahrenheit.
8.Fort Selkirk
Fort Selkirk is the old trading post on Yukon River situated at the confluence of Pelly River in Canada’s Yukon. As a result of the extreme cold climatic condition, the place was deserted in 1950 but now, it is accessible without any road access. Majority of the visitors visit the place by boat or place. Out of 12 months in a year, January is the coldest month in Fort Selkirk when there is lowest temperature – 74 degree Fahrenheit.
9.Oymyakon
One of the candidates of the northern pole of cold is Oymyakon. Oymyakon ground freeze permanently. A Russian scientist, Sergey Obrychey recorded the lowest temperature as -71.2 degrees Fahrenheit at the weather station of Oymyakon
10.Rogers Pass
Rogers Pass is 5,610 feet higher than the sea level and it is situated on the continental dividing the Montana in USA. Rogers Pass is the place where coldest temperature has ever recorded outside of Alaska in USA. In spite of the severe cold wave on January 20, 1954, a low temperature of -70 degree Fahrenheit was recorded in Rogers Pass.

Rogers Pass is the location of the coldest temperature ever recorded in the United States outside of Alaska. On January 20, 1954, a low temperature of −70 °F (−57 °C) was recorded during a severe cold wave.

With an extreme subarctic climate, Oymyakon is known as one of the candidates for the Northern Pole of Cold, the other being the Verkhoyansk. The ground there is permanently frozen. This is the lowest recorded temperature for any permanently inhabited location on Earth
