The head of the government Climate Change Authority says the world isn't doing enough to prevent dangerous climate change and Australia isn't doing its fair share even of what's being done at the moment. The Authority has responded to the emissions reduction targets announced this week, taking issue with many of the government's assertions about how good the target is. More

Today is the 70th anniversary of VJ day - victory of Japan day, which marked the end of World War Two. Hostilities ceased and the Japanese empire that had controlled much of Asia came to an end. Seventy years on history still drives the tense regional relationships between Japan and its former colonies of South Korea and China. An Australian man who travelled to the Middle East to help Kurdish separatists, says he's now stuck in a refugee camp in Iraq and fears for his life. Renas Lelikan, who says he's a journalist, has been waiting for seven months for the Australian Government to issue him with travel documents so he can flee the camp, which is now under threat from Islamic State forces. Greens Senator Sarah Hanson-Young has sought legal advice following allegations that she was spied on by Wilson Security guards inside her hotel room during a visit to Nauru. The Shadow Minister for Immigration and Border Protection, Richard Marles, is demanding to know whether the Australian Government authorised the alleged covert spying operation. The Greens leader, Richard Di Natale, has called for a federal police investigation into the incident reports. It all comes as the Government denies separate damning claims by an Australian guard that asylum seekers at the Nauru detention centre have been water-boarded. More

Australian courts are increasingly dealing with copyright piracy of photographs. Professional photographers are going to court to seek damages for the illegal use of their work. It follows a landmark case last year where a Melbourne travel agent was successfully sued and ordered to pay thousands of dollars for refusing a 'take down' order. There are thousands of websites displaying images illegally, including social media sites like Facebook where companies and even ordinary individuals risk being sued. More
