The Wire
The Wire is an American crime drama television series set and produced in and around Baltimore, Maryland. Created and primarily written by author and former police reporter David Simon, the series was broadcast by the cable network HBO in the United States. The Wire premiered on June 2, 2002, and ended on March 9, 2008, comprising 60 episodes over five seasons.
Each season of The Wire introduces a different institution in the city of Baltimore and its relationship to law enforcement, while retaining characters and advancing storylines from previous seasons. In chronological order these institutions are: the illegal drug trade, the seaport system, the city government and bureaucracy, the school system, and the print news media. The large cast consists mainly of character actors who are little known for their other roles, as well as numerous real-life Baltimore and Maryland figures in guest and recurring roles. Simon has said that despite its framing as a crime drama, the show is "really about the American city, and about how we live together. It's about how institutions have an effect on individuals. Whether one is a cop, a longshoreman, a drug dealer, a politician, a judge or a lawyer, all are ultimately compromised and must contend with whatever institution to which they are committed."

Gaylord College of Journalism and Mass Communication
The Gaylord College of Journalism and Mass Communication is the journalism unit of the University of Oklahoma in Norman. The College is named for the former longtime publishers of The Oklahoman.
History
In 1897, five years after the University of Oklahoma opened its doors, the first student ran newspaper, The Umpire, made its debut. In 1903 it became a semiweekly news publication called the University Oklahoman. Subsequently, by 1916 the paper had taken on the name that it still carries today, The Oklahoma Daily.
Sensing the need for professional training, some of The Umpire staff asked for a class in newspaper fundamentals. This first journalism course was placed within the English department as a one-semester two-credit course entitled English 33. Jerome Dowd, a Sociology/Economics professor and Theodore Brewer, head of the English Department, taught it. Since both had worked in the newspaper business before becoming professors, Dowd as an editor and Brewer as a staff member, they were well able to teach the first class of eight students. By 1910, Mr. Brewer had become the only teacher.

The Wire (season 2)
The second season of the television series The Wire commenced airing in the United States on June 1, 2003, concluded on August 24, 2003, and contained 12 episodes. It introduces the stevedores of the Baltimore port and an international smuggling organization led by a figure known only as "The Greek", while continuing to examine the drug-dealing Barksdale Organization and the Baltimore Police Department. While continuing the series' central themes of dysfunctional institutions and the societal effects of the drug trade, the second season also explores the decline of the American working class, and the hardship its members endure during the transition from an industrial to a post-industrial society.
The second season aired Sundays at 9:00 pm in the United States. The season was released on DVD as a five disc boxed set under the title of The Wire: The Complete Second Season on January 5, 2005 by HBO Video.
Plot
The second season, along with its ongoing examination of the drug problem and its effect on the urban poor, examines the plight of the blue-collar urban working class as exemplified by stevedores in the city port, as some of them get caught up in smuggling drugs and other contraband inside the containers that their port receives. In a season-long subplot, the Barksdale organization continues its drug trafficking despite Avon's imprisonment, with Stringer Bell assuming greater power.

Calling Narendra Modi a “putative dictator” who has “authoritarian instincts” and “dictatorial tendencies”, one of the most highly regarded historians of modern India and Mahatma Gandhi’s biographer, Ramachandra Guha, says that Modi’s majoritarianism can destroy the social fabric of India and calls it “a poison” and “a cancer”. As he put it: “Majoritarianism poisons the mind and the heart. The hate and bigotry that it engenders spread like a cancer through the body politic, robbing individuals and society of civility, decency, compassion and humanity itself.”
Drawing a distinction with Indira Gandhi’s Emergency, when she combined authoritarianism with family rule, Mr. Guha says Narendra Modi today combines authoritarianism with hindu majoritarianism. He said “the intention of Modi and Shah is to suppress all free speech”. He said a third term Modi government will give licence to a full-fledged regime of thought control.
However, in a 30-minute interview to Karan Thapar for The Wire, Ramachandra Guha said even if Modi wins a sweeping victory and returns to power for the third time, “the authoritarianism of the Emergency years” is unlikely to return because large states like Tamil Nadu, Kerala, West Bengal, Karnataka, Telangana and Punjab will be outside his and the BJP’s control and will politically resist his attempt to dominate them. However, what Mr. Guha fears is the impact of Modi’s majoritarianism, during any third term he may have in office, on the social fabric of the country and the thinking and behaviour of its people.
Mr. Guha believes the stigmatization of Muslims will sharpen, the screws on the media will tighten, the independence of the civil services, the judiciary and public regulatory institutions will be further undermined, whilst Central Universities, IITs and IIMs will become centres of Hindutva propaganda and the structure of Indian federalism will grow weaker.
Mr. Guha believes that hate filled anti-Muslim speeches, like the one Narendra Modi delivered in Rajasthan on Sunday (21st), will proliferate and will become a common occurrence if Mr. Modi wins a third term. He believes “non-Hindus will be treated as inferior and sub-human”. Muslims will be, as the RSS has often said, “shown their place”.
This is why Mr. Guha believes the elections that has started “is the most important since 1977”.
I have only given you the big broad points made by Mr. Guha. I have deliberately avoided giving you further details because I think you should hear this interview for yourself. As ever, Mr. Guha is rich and riveting in his analysis and the sweep of his arguement covers a lot of ground. It will be a shame to diminish it through a precis or paraphrase. प्रधानमंत्री मोदी का बंसवाड़ा, राजस्थान में एक चुनावी रैली के दौरान दिया भाषण खूब वायरल हो रहा है। जैसा आपने सुना PM मोदी सीधे सीधे मुस्लिम समाज पर हमला करते हुए कहते है की वे घुसपैठी है और अगर कांग्रिस सत्ता में वापिस आती है तो संसाधनों पर पहला हक़ मुस्लिमों का ही होगा। मोदी इस बात को साबित करने कहते है की मनमोहन सिंह जब प्रधानमंत्री थे तब उन्होंने ऐसा बयान दिया था। विडीओ में बाक़ी बातें करेंगे, लेकिन सबसे पहले PM मोदी के इस भाषण का factcheck करते है। क्या मनमोहन सिंह ने सचमे ऐसा बयान दिया था? जवाब है नहीं!

In fact, Modi had made such an allegation earlier also in 2006 when he was not the PM. The then PM Manmohan Singh had also responded to this and said that his statement had been misused. It is wrong to give priority only to Muslims. Nate Feken is a former sports anchor and reporter from KFOR in Oklahoma City who now serves as the Sports Director for the Gaylord College of Journalism and Mass Communication. Feken graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 2011, where he forged his future career in sports journalism with the OUr Sports Pad and OU Nightly newscast. Feken's passion for sports journalism and OU inspired him to return to his alma mater in 2022 to help build upon the strong foundation of education he left behind and push Gaylord College to new metrics of excellence.

The Wire is a HBO American crime drama TV series created by author and former police reporter David Simon. It premiered in 2002, and ended in 2008, with 60 episodes spread over 5 seasons. So as I mentioned in my review of the previous season, I was a of fan of the first series of The Wire. This police crime drama, novel for the way it depicts drug gangs and the cops out to get them simultaneously, was gritty, felt realistic, and had great entertaining characters. I had heard quite a few things about the second season, namely that it is a bit of an oddball in the run of the show for being drastically different from the first. I do wonder if that reputation has come about because during the initial run of the show, I can see how the second season seems like you’re watching a completely diff...

The Wire is a HBO American crime drama TV series created by author and former police reporter David Simon. It premiered in 2002, and ended in 2008, with 60 episodes spread over 5 seasons.
So as I mentioned in my review of the previous season, I was a of fan of the first series of The Wire. This police crime drama, novel for the way it depicts drug gangs and the cops out to get them simultaneously, was gritty, felt realistic, and had great entertaining characters. I had heard quite a few things about the second season, namely that it is a bit of an oddball in the run of the show for being drastically different from the first. I do wonder if that reputation has come about because during the initial run of the show, I can see how the second season seems like you’re watching a completely different show, but in retrospect, looking back at the entire show, each season focuses on a different aspect of the city of Baltimore, so I wonder if it’s a case of the second season did the same thing that the rest of them did, only it did it first, so people were more shocked. I still haven’t seen the rest of The Wire, so what do I know?

Calling Narendra Modi a “putative dictator” who has “authoritarian instincts” and “dictatorial tendencies”, one of the most highly regarded historians of modern India and Mahatma Gandhi’s biographer, Ramachandra Guha, says that Modi’s majoritarianism can destroy the social fabric of India and calls it “a poison” and “a cancer”. As he put it: “Majoritarianism poisons the mind and the heart. The hate and bigotry that it engenders spread like a cancer through the body politic, robbing individuals and society of civility, decency, compassion and humanity itself.”
Drawing a distinction with Indira Gandhi’s Emergency, when she combined authoritarianism with family rule, Mr. Guha says Narendra Modi today combines authoritarianism with hindu majoritarianism. He said “the intention of Modi and Shah is to suppress all free speech”. He said a third term Modi government will give licence to a full-fledged regime of thought control.
However, in a 30-minute interview to Karan Thapar for The Wire, Ramachandra Guha said even if Modi wins a sweeping victory and returns to power for the third time, “the authoritarianism of the Emergency years” is unlikely to return because large states like Tamil Nadu, Kerala, West Bengal, Karnataka, Telangana and Punjab will be outside his and the BJP’s control and will politically resist his attempt to dominate them. However, what Mr. Guha fears is the impact of Modi’s majoritarianism, during any third term he may have in office, on the social fabric of the country and the thinking and behaviour of its people.
Mr. Guha believes the stigmatization of Muslims will sharpen, the screws on the media will tighten, the independence of the civil services, the judiciary and public regulatory institutions will be further undermined, whilst Central Universities, IITs and IIMs will become centres of Hindutva propaganda and the structure of Indian federalism will grow weaker.
Mr. Guha believes that hate filled anti-Muslim speeches, like the one Narendra Modi delivered in Rajasthan on Sunday (21st), will proliferate and will become a common occurrence if Mr. Modi wins a third term. He believes “non-Hindus will be treated as inferior and sub-human”. Muslims will be, as the RSS has often said, “shown their place”.
This is why Mr. Guha believes the elections that has started “is the most important since 1977”.
I have only given you the big broad points made by Mr. Guha. I have deliberately avoided giving you further details because I think you should hear this interview for yourself. As ever, Mr. Guha is rich and riveting in his analysis and the sweep of his arguement covers a lot of ground. It will be a shame to diminish it through a precis or paraphrase. It should be heard directly in his own words.

दरसल मोदी ने ऐसा आरोप पहले भी किया था २००६ में जब वो PM नहि थे। तत्कालीन PM मनमोहन सिंह ने इसका जवाब भी दिया था और कहा था कि उनके बयान को ग़लत तरीक़े से इस्तेमाल किया गया है। सिर्फ़ मुस्लिमों को प्राथमिकता देने की बात ग़लत है।पूर्व प्रधानमंत्री मनमोहन सिंह ने सभी पिछड़े समाज जिसमें एससी, एसटी, ओबीसी, महिलाएँ, बच्चे और अल्पसंख्यकों के उत्थान की बात की थी। देखिए पूरा विडीओ

In fact, Modi had made such an allegation earlier also in 2006 when he was not the PM. The then PM Manmohan Singh had also responded to this and said that his statement had been misused. It is wrong to give priority only to Muslims. The Wire
The Wire is an American crime drama television series set and produced in and around Baltimore, Maryland. Created and primarily written by author and former police reporter David Simon, the series was broadcast by the cable network HBO in the United States. The Wire premiered on June 2, 2002, and ended on March 9, 2008, comprising 60 episodes over five seasons.
Each season of The Wire introduces a different institution in the city of Baltimore and its relationship to law enforcement, while retaining characters and advancing storylines from previous seasons. In chronological order these institutions are: the illegal drug trade, the seaport system, the city government and bureaucracy, the school system, and the print news media. The large cast consists mainly of character actors who are little known for their other roles, as well as numerous real-life Baltimore and Maryland figures in guest and recurring roles. Simon has said that despite its framing as a crime drama, the show is "really about the American city, and about how we live together. It's about how institutions have an effect on individuals. Whether one is a cop, a longshoreman, a drug dealer, a politician, a judge or a lawyer, all are ultimately compromised and must contend with whatever institution to which they are committed."

The Wire is a HBO American crime drama TV series created by author and former police reporter David Simon. It premiered in 2002, and ended in 2008, with 60 episodes spread over 5 seasons.
So as I mentioned in my review of the previous season, I was a of fan of the first series of The Wire. This police crime drama, novel for the way it depicts drug gangs and the cops out to get them simultaneously, was gritty, felt realistic, and had great entertaining characters. I had heard quite a few things about the second season, namely that it is a bit of an oddball in the run of the show for being drastically different from the first. I do wonder if that reputation has come about because during the initial run of the show, I can see how the second season seems like you’re watching a completely different show, but in retrospect, looking back at the entire show, each season focuses on a different aspect of the city of Baltimore, so I wonder if it’s a case of the second season did the same thing that the rest of them did, only it did it first, so people were more shocked. I still haven’t seen the rest of The Wire, so what do I know?

The Wire is my favourite TV show ever made, I have produced my own trailers for each season of the show.
I wanted to make something true to at least part of a storyline within the season and highlight some of my favourite scenes in the show. If you havn't watched it I highly recommend you do.

Time Spent On Project: Approximately 10 hours
Season 2 moves to the docks, it is an examination of the blue collar urban working class, it is about desperate, potentially good, honest people being corrupted in order to try and survive. A police investigation into the ports starts when a shipping container is opened up and it contains multiple dead young women, they were murdered. An underworld of smuggling is exposed which ties back to the first season and expands The Wire's boundaries, it shows now how the drugs get into the city.

The five subjects are, in chronological order: the illegal drug trade, the port system, the city government and bureaucracy, education and schools, and the print news medium. Simon chose to set the show in Baltimore because of his familiarity with the city.
