Trinidad (Spanish: "Trinity") is the largest and more populous of the two major islands and numerous landforms which make up the island nation of Trinidad and Tobago. It is the southernmost island in the Caribbean and lies just 11 km (6.8 mi) off the northeastern coast of Venezuela. With an area of 4,768 km2 (1,841 sq mi) it is also the fifth largest in the West Indies. Time zone: GMT −4 (Trinidad does not observe DST).
Many believe[who?] the original name for the island in the Arawaks' language was "Iëre" which meant "Land of the Humming Bird". Christopher Columbus renamed it "La Isla de la Trinidad" ("The Island of the Trinity"), fulfilling a vow he had made before setting out on his third voyage of exploration.
Caribs and Arawaks lived in Trinidad long before Christopher Columbus encountered the islands on his third voyage in 1498. Tobago changed hands between the British, French, Dutch and Courlanders, but eventually ended up in British hands. Trinidad remained Spanish until 1797, but it was largely settled by French colonists. In 1889 the two islands became a single crown colony. Trinidad and Tobago obtained self-governance in 1958 and independence from the British Empire in 1962.

There once was a story
From a thousand yesterdays
I read it in this ancient book
When the old man passed away
I drifted through the pages
And it's magic filled my eyes
I dreamed she once loved me
In the land called Trinidad
By the wind
Sailed the water
She calls my name
To come on back to hold me
Trinidad
Trinidad
The silence on the ocean
Stopped the silence in my heart
She still sings to me softly
Through the night
And in the dark
By the wind
Sailed the water
She calls my name
To come on back to hold me
Trinidad
Take me back (3X)
Trinidad
She waits by her window
And she shines a light for me
To help me through the harbor
In the land called Trinidad
By the wind
Sailed the water
She calls my name
To come on back to hold me
Trinidad
Trinidad (Trinidad)
Take me back (3X)
(Take me back)
Trinidad (Trinidad)
Come on home to hold me
(Come on home)
Trinidad
Hey hey hey
(Trinidad, Take me back)
(oh oh oh, oh oh oh)
(Trinidad, Take me back)
(oh oh oh, oh oh oh)

Let me tell you a story about an ugly woman I know...
"Hello girls!"
"Hello Tobi you hot little machine!"
I'm a sight for sore eyes
Oh, if your eyes would only see
I've been born on tiptoe
Still you looked like a lighthouse next to me
You pet-named me Napoleon
I was proud 'til I got the reason why, why...
Never aimed for confrontation
You've been sleeping when I kissed your ass goodbye
Oh, while you read this letter
I'd just gone to eat out
By the way
My what a sunshine in Trinidad
Hope you're okay lightyears away
My what A heat wave in Trinidad
Hope you don't mind if I stay

And now the pitcher's gone insane
Gotta run away, boiling over, getting hell
And found the answer on a plane

My what a sunshine in Trinidad
Mind if you stay, I do okay
