Charango

The charango is a small Andean stringed instrument of the lute family, which probably originated in the Quechua and Aymara populations in post-Columbian times, after European stringed instruments were introduced by the Spanish and other colonial powers. The instrument is widespread today throughout the Andean regions of Ecuador, Bolivia, Peru, northern Chile and northwestern Argentina, where it is a popular musical instrument which exists in many variant forms.

About 66 cm long, the charango was traditionally made with the shell from the back of an armadillo (quirquincho, mulita), but also it can be made of wood, which some believe to be a better resonator. Wood is more commonly used in modern instruments. Charangos for children may also be made from calabash. Many contemporary charangos are now made with different types of wood. It typically has 10 strings in five courses of 2 strings each, but many other variations exist.

The charango is primarily played in traditional Andean music, but is sometimes used by other Latin American musicians. A charango player is called a charanguista.

Mason Jar Music

Mason Jar Music (founded June, 2010) is an audio/visual production company and creative collective based in Brooklyn, NY co-founded by Dan Knobler & Jon Seale.

Overview

Mason Jar Music's stated goal is to use modern technology with "analog philosophies" to create high-quality audio and video using a collaborative method. "The collective—which is truly the best word to describe Knobler and Seale’s company—includes a rotating cast of collaborators, many of whom live in a converted apartment in Brooklyn. With Knobler and Seale at the helm as co-founders and producers, Mason Jar Music encapsulates two main facets of production—their studio work and the Mason Jar Music Presents series. The studio, built into the basement of their apartment, serves to host recording/producing sessions with New York-based bands."

Their motto is "Preserving Analog Principles in a Digital Age," meaning they work to "reclaim the technology and say: 'this is what we could be doing with it…we’re going to take these small high-definition cameras, and these field recorders that can now record 10 channels, and take them somewhere and do something amazing with them. Rather than programming all of our instruments and making our voices sound in tune, etc.'”

Josh Garrels is an American singer-songwriter.

Biography

Josh Garrels is a singer-songwriter, hip-hop, pop producer, and orchestral folk composer from South Bend, Indiana. His music combines traditional folk music with other musical elements and the nontraditional exploration of Christian themes. He currently lives in Portland, Oregon with his wife and three children. Since 2005 he has co-founded the record label, Small Voice Records and released the albums: Over Oceans, Jacaranda, and Lost Animals. Garrels released his sixth album in June 2011 titled Love & War & The Sea In Between.Christianity Today called the album "prophetic, incisive, achingly human, and longingly spiritual," and rated it as their 2011 Album of The Year. In 2012, Garrels collaborated with the music collective Mason Jar Music to film the music-documentary movie The Sea In Between in which Mason Jar and Josh traveled to the remote Mayne Island, BC to perform music on several of Mayne's most beautiful locations. The film was reviewed by Billboard (magazine) and has received a 4.5 Star review on Amazon.com. "Don't Wait For Me" was featured on American Idol on January 29, 2014.

La Paz

Nuestra Señora de La Paz (Spanish pronunciation: [ˈnwes.tɾa seˈɲoɾa ðe la pas]; English: Our Lady of Peace), commonly known as La Paz (/lɑː ˈpɑːz/; Spanish pronunciation: [la ˈpas]), named Chuqi Yapu in Aymara, is Bolivia's third-most populous city (after Santa Cruz and El Alto), the seat of the country's government, and the capital of La Paz Department. It is located on the western side of Bolivia at an elevation of roughly 3,650 m (11,975 ft) above sea level.

It is, de facto, the world's highest administrative capital. While the official capital of Bolivia (and its seat of justice) is Sucre, La Paz has more government departments.

In May 2015, La Paz was officially recognized as one of the New7Wonders Cities together with Vigan, Doha, Durban, Havana, Beirut, and Kuala Lumpur.

The city sits in a bowl surrounded by the high mountains of the altiplano. As it grew, the city of La Paz climbed the hills, resulting in varying elevations from 3,200 to 4,100 m (10,500 to 13,500 ft). Overlooking the city is towering triple-peaked Illimani, which is always snow-covered and can be seen from many parts of the city, including from the neighboring city of El Alto. As of the 2008 census, the city had a population of 877,363.
