Harvard University is an American privateIvy Leagueresearch university located in Cambridge, Massachusetts, United States, established in 1636 by the Massachusetts legislature. Harvard is the oldest institution of higher learning in the United States and the first corporation (officially The President and Fellows of Harvard College) chartered in the country. Harvard's history, influence, and wealth have made it one of the most prestigious universities in the world.
Harvard was named after its first benefactor, John Harvard. Although never formally affiliated with a church, the college primarily trained Congregationalist and Unitarian clergy. Harvard's curriculum and students became secular throughout the 18th century and by the 19th century had emerged as the central cultural establishment among Boston elites. Following the American Civil War, President Charles W. Eliot's forty year tenure (1869–1909) transformed the college and affiliated professional schools into a centralized research university, and Harvard became a founding member of the Association of American Universities in 1900.James Bryant Conant led the university through the Great Depression and World War II and began to reform the curriculum and liberalize admissions after the war. The undergraduate college became coeducational after its 1977 merger with Radcliffe College. Drew Gilpin Faust was elected the 28th president in 2007 and is the first woman to lead the university. Harvard has the largestfinancial endowment of any academic institution in the world, standing at $32 billion as of September 2011.
Natalie Hershlag (Hebrew: נטלי הרשלג; born June 9, 1981), better known by her stage name Natalie Portman, is an actress with dual American and Israeli citizenship. Her first role was as an orphan taken in by a hitman in the 1994 French action film Léon, but mainstream success came when she was cast as Padmé Amidala in the Star Wars prequel trilogy (released in 1999, 2002 and 2005). In 1999, she enrolled at Harvard University to study psychology while still working as an actress. She completed her bachelor's degree in 2003.
William Henry "Bill" Gates III (born October 28, 1955 in Seattle, Washington) is an American business magnate, computer programmer and philanthropist. Gates is the former chief executive officer (CEO) and current chairman of Microsoft, the world’s largest personal-computer software company he co-founded with Paul Allen. He is consistently ranked among the world's wealthiest people and was the wealthiest overall from 1995 to 2009, excluding 2008, when he was ranked third; in 2011 he was the wealthiest American and the second wealthiest person. During his career at Microsoft, Gates held the positions of CEO and chief software architect, and remains the largest individual shareholder, with 6.4 percent of the common stock. He has also authored or co-authored several books.
Gates is one of the best-known entrepreneurs of the personal computer revolution. Gates has been criticized for his business tactics, which have been considered anti-competitive, an opinion which has in some cases been upheld by the courts. In the later stages of his career, Gates has pursued a number of philanthropic endeavors, donating large amounts of money to various charitable organizations and scientific research programs through the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, established in 2000.

Being the first African American to summit Mount Everest, Sophia Danenberg is often asked: Was it everything you dreamed of and hoped for? Her answer may be surprising as she talks about how our hopes and dreams may in fact be limiting what we are able to do.
Sophia Danenberg didn't go on her first hike until college, but in 2006 she became the first African-American and the first black woman to climb to the summit of Mount Everest.
Sophia’s love of the mountains has taken her all over the world, from the Matterhorn in Switzerland, to Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, to Ama Dablam in Nepal and to Aconcagua in Argentina.

A few years ago reports arose about suspected contamination of fish in Lake Chapala, the largest lake in Mexico and a breadbasket for those who rely on its fish for protein. Harvard and public health allies in Mexico established Proyecto Chapala, studied at-risk pregnant mothers and their toddlers, assessed the fish (verdict: they are largely safe to eat), drew up a list of future environmental health studies, and expanded the project to empower and educate local children and their mothers.

While at sea level, she leads the international policy analysis program in environment, health and safety (EH&S;) at The Boeing Company, advising the corporation on EH&S; policy developments and interfacing with global trade associations, governments, the United Nations, OECD, APEC and other intergovernmental organization on behalf of the company and industry.
Prior to launching her career, Sophia was a researcher-writer for a travel guide in Thailand and a Fulbright Fellow in environmental economics at Keio University in Tokyo. She graduated magna cum laude from Harvard University in environmental sciences and public policy.
This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at http://ted.com/tedx

Harvard University - USA - Education
Harvard University is a private Ivy League research university in Cambridge, Massachusetts, whose history, influence and wealth have made it one of the most prestigious universities in the world.[6][7][8][9][10]
Established in 1636 by the Massachusetts legislature and soon thereafter named for John Harvard (its first benefactor), Harvard is the United States' oldest institution of higher learning,[11] and the Harvard Corporation (formally, the President and Fellows of Harvard College) is its first chartered corporation. Although never formally affiliated with any denomination, the early College primarily trained Congregationalist and Unitarian clergy. Its curriculum and student body were gradually secularized during the 18th century, and by the 19th century Harvard had emerged as the central cultural establishment among Boston elites.[12][13] Following the American Civil War, President Charles W. Eliot's long tenure (1869--1909) transformed the college and affiliated professional schools into a modern research university; Harvard was a founding member of the Association of American Universities in 1900.[14] James Bryant Conant led the university through the Great Depression and World War II and began to reform the curriculum and liberalize admissions after the war. The undergraduate college became coeducational after its 1977 merger with Radcliffe College.
The University is organized into eleven separate academic units—ten faculties and the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study—with campuses throughout the Boston metropolitan area:[15] its 209-acre (85 ha) main campus is centered on Harvard Yard in Cambridge, approximately 3 miles (5 km) northwest of Boston; the business school and athletics facilities, including Harvard Stadium, are located across the Charles River in the Allston neighborhood of Boston and the medical, dental, and public health schools are in the Longwood Medical Area.[5] Harvard has the largest financial endowment of any academic institution in the world, standing at $32.3 billion as of June 2013.[3]
Harvard is a large, highly residential research university. Its undergraduate program (comprising a minority of enrollments) emphasizes an "arts and sciences focus", while the graduate programs have a larger variety of disciplinary degrees offered.[clarification needed][16] The nominal cost of attendance is high, but the University's large endowment allows it to offer generous financial aid packages.[17] It operates several museums, and the Harvard University Library is the oldest library system in the United States, the largest academic and the largest private library system in the world. The Morning Exercises at Harvard's 364th Commencement at Tercentenary Theatre on May 28, 2015.
Welcome to the 364rd Harvard Commencement. Although Harvard's first Commencement in 1642 is more than 373 years behind us, Commencement numbering has fallen out of step as exercises were omitted for reasons ranging from war to plague. The cumulative effect is that 201, for example, marks only the 364th Harvard Commencement.
Commencement at Harvard is comprised of three components: the ceremonial Morning Exercises, during which University degrees are conferred; the mid-day luncheons and diploma-awarding ceremonies at the undergraduate Houses, Graduate and Professional Schools; and the afternoon Annual Meeting of the Harvard Alumni Association, during which Harvard's president and the featured Commencement speaker deliver their addresses.
The Morning Exercises, which convene in the outdoor Tercentenary Theatre, are attended by approximately 32,000 degree candidates, family members, faculty, alumni/ae, and guests.

*** Professor Berlin discussed his book Generations of Captivity: A History of African-American Slaves, published by Harvard University Press. He traced the history of slavery from its 17th-century origins to its demise in the U.S. during the Civil War. The vast majority of children in America play sports. But while about three out of four adults played sports when they were younger, only one in four still plays sports today, and men are more than twice as likely as women to play. Why do we give up sports as we grow older? A new poll conducted by NPR, Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, and Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health offers fresh insight into how and why adults and kids do — and don’t — play sports. What obstacles keep adults off the field? How can sports help keep kids and adults healthy, and how might programs and policies encourage more widespread participation, particularly am

Matt learns to stand his ground through a friendship that develops against the backdrop of this secret and often violent world. 'Green Street Hooligans' is a story of loyalty, trust and the sometimes brutal consequences of living close to the edge.

Ira Berlin: "Generations of Captivity : A History of African-American Slaves" (Book TV, 8/4/03)
*** Professor Berlin discussed his book Generations of Captivity: A History of African-American Slaves, published by Harvard University Press. He traced the history of slavery from its 17th-century origins to its demise in the U.S. during the Civil War. He said that American slavery evolved and developed within the changing context of American history. Delineated periods or ‘generations’ defined the stages of this evolution. The experiences of slaves adapting to their new environment during the first century of settlement produced the ‘chartered generation.’ The familiar southern experience of slavery, when cotton dominated the national economy, was titled the ‘plantation generation.’ The ‘revolutionary generation’ followed as international views on slavery and freedom began to influence domestic politics and culture. Mr. Berlin identified the period during the Civil War as the ‘freedom generation.’ Finally, he examined the ‘migration generation,’ which was defined by the substantial shift in the black population from the south to the north and west. Following his remarks, Mr. Berlin answered questions from members of the audience. ***

In Naturalist, Wilson describes for the first time bothhis growth as a scientist and the evolution of the sciencehe has helped define. He traces the trajectory ofhis life—from a childhood spent exploring the GulfCoast of Alabama and Florida to life as a tenuredprofessor at Harvard—detailing how his youthfulfascination with nature blossomed into a lifelongcalling. He recounts with drama and wit the adventuresof his days as a student at the University ofAlabama and his four decades at Harvard University, where he has achieved renown as both teacher and researcher. As the narrative of Wilson’s life unfolds, the reader is treated to aninside look at the origin and development of ideas that guide today’sbiological research. Theories that are now widely accepted in the scientificworld were once untested hypotheses emerging from one man’sbroad-gauged studies. Throughout Naturalist, we see Wilson’s mindand energies constantly striving to help establish many of the centralprinciples of the field of evolutionary biology. The story of Wilson’s life provides fascinating insights into the makingof a scientist, and a valuable look at some of the most thought-provokingideas of our time.

Sports and Health: The State of Play in America | The Forum at HSPH
The vast majority of children in America play sports. But while about three out of four adults played sports when they were younger, only one in four still plays sports today, and men are more than twice as likely as women to play. Why do we give up sports as we grow older? A new poll conducted by NPR, Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, and Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health offers fresh insight into how and why adults and kids do — and don’t — play sports. What obstacles keep adults off the field? How can sports help keep kids and adults healthy, and how might programs and policies encourage more widespread participation, particularly among women and lower-income adults? What role do parents play in helping children get, and stay, active?
This Forum event was presented July 16, 2015, in Collaboration with the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and NPR.

Fresh fish stuffed with lightly cooked vegetables and luscious crab meat is so easy, you'll want to make this all the time. Once the stuffing is assembled, it's rolled securely in flounder fillets. After a splash of white wine, they're baked for just 10-12 minutes. Simple and gorgeous. From the kitchens of Harvard University and Martin Breslin, to your recipe box.

After graduating from the Tokyo University School of Law, Tamiya Makoto (Matsushima Nanako) goes on to Harvard University where she earns an MBA. She later works at one of the "big three" networks in the United States as a news reporter. While covering a story on an international symposium in Paris, Makoto is scouted to work for JBC Television in Japan. The news producer at JBC wants to use Makoto to help raise low viewer ratings. He persuades her to work for him for an absurdly high salary, and also gives her the right to hire who she needs. While Makoto is being brought in to be the savior of the News Department, one man gets transferred from the Variety Department. His name is Nagase Hiromi (Fukuyama Masaharu). Since joining JBC Television, all he has done is variety programs. Although Hiromi has done everything he possibly could to ensure his programs are a success, his boss just could not take anymore of Hiromi's behavior which ranged from getting caught up in scandals with female television personalities, punching-out assistant directors, to taking kickbacks from production companies. His boss finally tells Hiromi to make a fresh start in the "hard nosed" News Department. So now the News Department has Makoto who thinks high ratings are the meaning of life, and Hiromi who values the success of a program as just a tool for the full enjoyment of life. These two totally different personalities mix it up and somehow reach a mutual understanding, creating a delightful "light comedy" for adults. --Fuji TV

I got somewhere near 200 questions, so here are some of my favorites, along with my responses to them.
For those of you that don't know, I'm a junior (class of 2016) at Harvard.

Boston is the capital and largest city of the U.S. state of Massachusetts, officially the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. One of the oldest cities in the United States, Boston was founded on the Shawmut Peninsula in 1630 by Puritan colonists from England.
The most important places to visit in Boston are: Boston Common (starting point for Freedom Trail, dating back to 1634, this central public park is loved by locals as well as visitors), Massachusetts State Building (given its gold dome, the state capital can not be missed. It is the seat of the Massachusetts government), Faneuil Hall (constructed in 1742, it has been an important meeting hall. Today there's a market that offers many places to eat and shop), Beacon Hill (a famous historical neighborhood of Boston, amidst its well preserved streets, you will feel like you've gone back in time), Granary (part of the Freedom Trail, it was built in 1660. The site is the resting place for many prominent personalities and statesmen), Trinity Church (said to be one of the greatest buildings in the country, for a special treat, attend a concert during Christmas season), Harvard University (considered to be the world's greatest academic institution, you can tour its campus to soak in the wonderful ambiance), Copley Square (many important buildings with diverse architecture styles are here. This is also the site of the Boston Marathon's finish line) and many more.
If you want to save time and money, the most important Boston travel tip is to compare prices before booking a hotel room or a flight. Hopes and Dreams are Overrated | Sophia Danenberg | TEDxUChicago

Morning Exercises | Harvard University Commencement 2015
Oprah Winfrey, who has used her success as a talk show host and media entrepreneur to promote education, civic engagement, and charitable works, addresses graduates at Harvard's 362nd Commencement on May 30, 2013 at Tercentenary Theatre.

Despite the increase of multiculturalism in western lands Muslims along with other minority communities face many challenges and sometimes even discrimination.
There are also those within the faith that have become isolationist in a pluralistic society and even those who spread hatred and hate-speech towards the other.
How can we go about building diverse religious groups in our communities to create a better more peaceful future and what should be the role of faith institutions and faith leaders in building these bridges.
In this intellectually insightful lecture delivered at Harvard University Shaykh Dr. Yasir Qadhi tackles the subject of 'Religious Freedom and its Implications' addressing the problems of interfaith dialogue in America.
The lecture is followed by an open Q&A; session.

Wilson, Professor Emeritus, Harvard University Wildlife journalist William Stolzenburg follows in the wake of nature’s topmost carnivores and finds chaos in their absence. His startling tour through the bizarre, impoverished landscapes of pest and plague provides a world of reason to think again about meat-eating beasts so recently missing from the web of life.

Baked Stuffed Flounder
Fresh fish stuffed with lightly cooked vegetables and luscious crab meat is so easy, you'll want to make this all the time. Once the stuffing is assembled, it's rolled securely in flounder fillets. After a splash of white wine, they're baked for just 10-12 minutes. Simple and gorgeous. From the kitchens of Harvard University and Martin Breslin, to your recipe box.
