The Penghu or Pescadores Islands are an archipelago of 64 islands and islets in the Taiwan Strait. The largest city is Magong, located on the largest island, which is also named Penghu. Covering an area of 141 square kilometers (54 sq mi), the archipelago collectively forms Penghu County of Taiwan, and is the second smallest county, after Lienchiang.
The traditional English name of the islands, the Pescadores, comes from the Portuguese name Ilhas dos Pescadores ("Fishermen Islands"). The Portuguese pronunciation is [pɨʃkɐˈðoɾɨʃ] but, in English, it is typically closer to /ˌpɛskəˈdɔːrɪz/ or /-iz/. The islands have also been called Pehoe.
Pescadores was also the name given by the Spanish expedition of Hernando de Grijalva in 1537 to the Micronesian atoll Kapingamarangi.
Finds of fine red cord-marked pottery indicate that Penghu was visited by people from southwestern Taiwan around 5,000 years ago, though not settled permanently.
Han Chinese from southern Fujian began to establish fishing communities on the islands in the 9th and 10th centuries, and representatives were intermittently stationed there by the Southern Song and Yuan governments from around 1170.

Taiwan (i/ˌtaɪˈwɑːn/; Chinese: 臺灣 or 台灣; see below), officially the Republic of China (ROC; Chinese: 中華民國; pinyin: Zhōnghuá Mínguó), is a sovereign state in East Asia. The Republic of China, originally based in mainland China, now governs the island of Taiwan, which constitutes more than 99% of its territory, as well as Penghu, Kinmen, Matsu, and other minor islands, following its loss of the mainland China territory in 1949 in the Chinese Civil War. This remaining area is also constitutionally called the "Free area of the Republic of China" which is not ruled by the Communist Party of China in Beijing.
Neighboring states include the People's Republic of China (PRC) to the west (mainland China), Japan to the east and northeast, and the Philippines to the south. Taiwan is one of the most densely populated countries in the world with a population density of 649 people per km2 in October 2015.Taipei is the seat of the central government, and together with the surrounding cities of New Taipei and Keelung forms the largest metropolitan area on the island.
An island /ˈaɪlənd/ or isle /ˈaɪl/ is any piece of sub-continental land that is surrounded by water. Very small islands such as emergent land features on atolls can be called islets, skerries, cays or keys. An island in a river or a lake island may be called an eyot or ait, or a holm. A grouping of geographically or geologically related islands is called an archipelago, e.g. the Philippines.
An island may be described as such despite the presence of an artificial land bridge, for example Singapore and its causeway, or the various Dutch delta islands, such as IJsselmonde. Some places may even retain "island" in their names for historical reasons after being connected to a larger landmass by a wide land bridge, such as Coney Island or Coronado Island. Conversely, when a piece of land is separated from the mainland by a man-made canal, for example the Peloponnese by the Corinth Canal, it is generally not considered an island.
There are two main types of islands: continental islands and oceanic islands. There are also artificial islands.

Birthday week spent camping along the beaches of the Penghu Islands, Taiwan
The Penghu Islands, formerly known as the Pescadores, are host to some of the oldest historic sites in Taiwan. Bringing together a mix of ecological awareness, old-style Minnan culture, and modern infrastructure, this is one of the most fascinating destinations in Taiwan.

We Said Go Travel http://www.wesaidgotravel.com/ Lonely Planet Taiwan calls the Penghu Islands the "Hawaii of Taiwan." Might Penghu be like an old-time Hawaii? And as a place known for its fishing industry, Penghu seems like a destination far from the tourist trail, a place with a major Matsu festival and therefore a tantalizing prospect for exploration. Video of our latest trip to the islands of Penghu in Taiwan. Travel in Taiwan app: http://tit.com.tw/appdownload.html Music by Cold Beat: http://freemusicarchive.org/music/Cold_Beat/ We visited places on the main island and the smaller islands of Qimei and Wang'an. Unfortunately an approaching typhoon messed up our original plan of visiting another island, Jibei. We rented scooters which is the best way to get around. The double heart stone weir was indeed beautiful, the whale cave was impressive too. There was less people on the fine sand beach than we expected. Overall a nice trip. Nice place to stay! 影片名稱:「The south sea of Penghu travel」 http://www.ocacmactv.net/mactv_en/index.htm The south sea of Penghu has been one of the unwavering travelling destinations of all time. One in particular is Tong Pan Island, which is crowned as the Yellowstone Park of Penghu. When you visit Wang An Island, which is the 4th largest island in Penghu, don't forget to visit Wang An Jhongshe. It is a well reserved village built by stones 300 years ago. The walls are especially thick because the stones were stacked up. On the windward side, stones with smaller gaps were used while larger stones were piled up on the leeward side to let the house "breath", making it suitable for living on all seasons.
A like would be appreciated!!! Penghu is also an island like Taiwan, but the geographical features are very different! It remains you more of a scenery from Mexico because of its flatland and cactus. It was also very windy. music - K-391 SkyCity
