Boston (pronounced /ˈbɒstən/ or locally /ˈbɔstən/ (listen)) is the capital of and largest city in Massachusetts, and is one of the oldest cities in the United States. The largest city in New England, Boston is regarded as the unofficial "Capital of New England" for its economic and cultural impact on the entire New England region. The city proper, covering only 48.43 square miles, had a population of 617,594 according to the 2010 U.S. Census. Boston is also the anchor of a substantially larger metropolitan area called Greater Boston, home to 4.5 million people and the tenth-largest metropolitan area in the country. Greater Boston as a commuting region is home to 7.6 million people, making it the fifth-largest Combined Statistical Area in the United States.
In 1630, Puritan colonists from England founded the city on the Shawmut Peninsula. During the late 18th century, Boston was the location of several major events during the American Revolution, including the Boston Massacre and the Boston Tea Party. Several early battles of the American Revolution, such as the Battle of Bunker Hill and the Siege of Boston, occurred within the city and surrounding areas. Through land reclamation and municipal annexation, Boston has expanded beyond the peninsula. After American independence was attained Boston became a major shipping port and manufacturing center, and its rich history now helps attract many tourists, with Faneuil Hall alone attracting over 20 million every year. The city was the site of several firsts, including America's first public school, Boston Latin School (1635), and the first subway system in the United States (1897).

Come to Boston to discover a city with roots in both the past and future.
Classic Boston sightseeing begins with walking the Freedom Trail for a bird’s-eye view of the American Revolution, including Boston Common and “Old Ironsides,” the USS Constitution. Stop by some of the most prestigious colleges in the nation, including Harvard and Tufts University. Continue your Boston tour with a stop at Faneuil Hall, which has served as a marketplace since 1742, and check out a variety of shops and street performers.
No trip to Boston is complete without paying homage at Fenway Park, where the Red Sox have held court for over a century. Don’t forget to fuel up with food afterward; Boston boasts a variety of restaurants, ranging from fresh seafood to classic Italian and everything in between.

Travel video about destination Boston in the United States of America.
Boston has over half a million inhabitants and is the largest of New England's cities. As its most important commercial and financial centre, the city on the Charles River has always played an historic role and was the cradle of Independence.
In the centre of Boston, Copley Square features the Trinity Church, which contrasts with the modern Hancock Tower that dominates the skyline. Park Street Church was where, in 1829, William Garrison gave his first anti-slavery speech. In the adjacent Granary Burial Ground, some of America's most famous sons are buried, such as John Hancock, Samuel Adams and Paul Revere.
Beacon Hill has hardly changed over the past 150 years, an architectural gem with narrow, winding cobbled streets and even today, the wrought ironwork of its balconies and banisters indicate that this is one of Boston's most sought after areas.
In front of the Old South Meeting House, in 1729, thousands of Boston's inhabitants protested against the English king and the taxes that he had imposed upon them. The Old State House is Boston's oldest public building. In 1776, it was here that the Declaration of Independence was read out for the first time.
The Plymouth Plantation is a reconstruction of the Pilgrim Fathers' original settlement and is one of the jewels of the many living museums in the U.S.A. To the southwest of Boston there is the museum town of Old Sturbridge Village in which historic buildings from all over the country have been lovingly replicated. Village inhabitants in historical costumes walk and talk in wide open spaces and act out the scenes of daily life as it was two centuries ago.
New England is the traditional face of America and the heart of America's past.

Boston (pronounced Listeni/ˈbɒstən/) is the capital and largest city[9] of the state of Massachusetts (officially the Commonwealth of Massachusetts), in the United States. Boston also serves as county seat of Suffolk County. The largest city in New England, the city proper, covering 48 square miles (124 km2), had an estimated population of 636,000 in 2012,[4] making it the 21st largest city in the United States.[3] The city is the anchor of a substantially larger metropolitan area called Greater Boston, home to 4.5 million people and the tenth-largest metropolitan area in the country.[6] Greater Boston as a commuting region[10] is home to 7.6 million people, making it the sixth-largest Combined Statistical Area in the United States.[7][11]
One of the oldest cities in the United States, Boston was founded on the Shawmut Peninsula in 1630 by Puritan colonists from England.[12][13] It was the scene of several key events of the American Revolution, such as the Boston Massacre, the Boston Tea Party, the Battle of Bunker Hill and the Siege of Boston. Upon American independence from Great Britain, the city continued to be an important port and manufacturing hub, as well as a center for education and culture.[14] Through land reclamation and municipal annexation, Boston has expanded beyond the original peninsula. Its rich history helps attract many tourists, with Faneuil Hall alone attracting over 20 million visitors.[15] Boston's many "firsts" include the United States' first public school (1635),[16] and first subway system (1897).[17]
The area's many colleges and universities make Boston an international center of higher education and medicine, and the city is considered to be a world leader in innovation for a variety of reasons.[18][19] Boston's economic base also includes finance,[20] professional and business services, and government activities.[21] The city has one of the highest costs of living in the United States,[22] though it remains high on world livability rankings.[23]

Boston - Massachusetts Travel Guide, Tourism, Vacation
As one of America's oldest cities, and the capital of Massachusetts, Boston's modern, vibrant streets echo its revolutionary past. Beyond being a historic milestone, Boston is also a thriving metropolis, rich with culture and hidden beauty.
Unfortunately, the city was thrust onto the world stage in 2013 for all the wrong reasons when three people were killed and more than 100 maimed during a terrorist attack during the Boston Marathon. Despite this, the city has rallied together and has proved it will stand staunch in the face of violence.
Founded in 1630, a stroll through the city is like reading pages from a history book. Key moments in the country's history from the American Revolution to the abolition of slavery are celebrated and encapsulated in numerous buildings and monuments. The best way to appreciate what the city has to offer is to pound its winding network of streets and diverse neighbourhoods - it's so compact and easy to navigate on foot and driving around the city is a nightmare.
From upmarket Beacon Hill and studenty Harvard to the Italian North End, Irish-influenced Southie' and Back Bay, with its shops and cafes. Like London, each district has its own charms and attractions. In fact, many visitors consider Boston to be one of the most European cities in North America.
Needless to say, it's attractive, enhanced by its natural waterfront setting -- Boston has a historic harbour and the meandering Charles River. In addition, numerous parks and a hot and sunny climate mean there is plenty to satisfy outdoor-lovers in the summer from bike rides to picnics and concerts. Whale watching cruises and the chance to go bird-watching in one of the city's 30-plus islands, which make up a national park, mean there are plenty of natural gems too close. However, autumn is also a popular time to visit, when trees in the city burst with flaming reds, browns and yellows, part of the legendary New England fall foliage.
A recommended spot to see the city in all its glory is from the Skywalk Observatory, on the 50th floor of the towering Prudential building. It is one of many soaring glass and steel skyscrapers that reflect the city's contemporary face, alongside a plethora of fabulous museums, edgy art galleries, sophisticated restaurants and a diverse nightlife scene.
And there's plenty of other attractions to explore. Ever fancied seeing a baseball match? You're in the right place. Head to Fenway Park to see the Red Sox in action. Love savouring a food market? Tuck into gourmet cuisine at Quincy Market, an unmissable indoor market in the city centre or sample freshly caugh lobster or the city's legendary clam chowder. Bit of a shopaholic? Check out the boutiques on Newbury Street, luxury shops in Copley Place or the the state's biggest outlet mall on the outskirts of the city.
One word of warning though; Boston is not cheap. You'll be hard pressed to find centrally located hotels for less than $100 a night, and this is ranked as one of the world's most expensive cities.

4. New York - New York scored higher than most other cities in the ranking in all of the categories except of quality of life, where it ranked a poor 47th. It has teamed with innovator IBM to help the city prevent fires and protect first responders as well as identify questionable tax refund claims--a move that is expected to save the city about $100 million over a five-year period.
3. Paris - Paris already has a highly successful bike sharing program, Velib, and just last month, its mayor launched a similar model for small EVs called Autolib.
2. Toronto - smartest city in NA, scored well across the board, it is an active member of the Clinton 40 (C40) megacities, which seek to transition to the low-carbon economy. The private sector is getting in on the action too, setting up a Smart Commute Toronto initiative to increase the city's transit efficiency.
1. The smartest city in the world is Vienna - Vienna was the only city that ranked in the top 10 in every category. It is establishing bold smart-city targets and tracking their progress to reach these goals with programs like Smart Energy Vision 2050, Roadmap 2020, and Action Plan 2012-2015.
A smart city is defined as using information and communication technologies to be more intelligent and efficient in the use of resources, resulting in cost and energy savings, improved service delivery and quality of life, and reduced environmental footprint--all supporting innovation and the low-carbon economy.
The rankings were determined by the cities scores on 4 global categories: Innovation, Green ranking, Quality of life and digital city.
10. Barcelona - The city is a pioneer in smart city and low-carbon solutions.
9. Hong Kong - The city has also been a leader in the use and adoption of smart cards, which are already used by millions of residents for services like public transit, library access, building access, shopping, and car parks.
8. Copenhagen - The city has committed to carbon neutrality by 2025 and 40% of its citizens regularly commute via bicycle.
7. Berlin - Berlin is testing out vehicle-to-grid (V2G) technologies in the hopes of creating a virtual power plant from electric vehicles.
6. Tokyo - The city will create a smart town in the suburbs in partnership with major industry. The eco-burb will contain homes that integrate solar panels, storage ba tteries, and energy efficient appliances all connected to a smart grid.

In May 2000, Leslie published an in-depth story for the Sunday Boston Globe about the French COMETA report and the broader issue of UFOs and national security. Her prior experience was as a widely published, print journalist and a producer and host for an investigative news program on KPFA Radio in Berkeley, CA. When she received a copy of the English translation of the COMETA report, she recognized that the extraordinary conclusion reached by the authors was newsworthy, and that this report had potentially profound implications that needed to be made available to the public.

“Inside Out,” Pixar’s strongest work in ages, feels like the feature-film version of “Day and Night.” It comes up with a simple yet resonant idea — what if five emotions that govern human behavior were personified as cartoon characters living in the command-central frontal lobes of a young girl named Riley? — and takes it for the kind of spin of which only this animation house is capable. It is a joy for audiences seeking entertainment, an ingenious work of craft for those paying close attention, and a wallop of feeling that’s still too rare coming from a cartoon.

The FBI #investifarted About 70 Leads, Says Boston Globe
The Boston Globe blew the lid off the most secretive form of investigation the FBI uses to solve crimes: the investifart technique.
Have no idea what we are talking about?
Initially neither did the internet, and mobile users do this all the time.
While live-tweeting the developments of yesterday's deadly shooting in Tennessee, the Globe accidentally published the typo over twitter.
The Globe later correctly tweeted the "FBI has investigated about 70 leads already."
However, the typo tweet would remain there for the world to see.
It is company policy for the Globe to "not delete typographical errors on Twitter."
Perhaps auto-correct ought be avoided by journalists.

Boston is the capital and largest city of the U.S. state of Massachusetts, officially the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. One of the oldest cities in the United States, Boston was founded on the Shawmut Peninsula in 1630 by Puritan colonists from England.
The most important places to visit in Boston are: Boston Common (starting point for Freedom Trail, dating back to 1634, this central public park is loved by locals as well as visitors), Massachusetts State Building (given its gold dome, the state capital can not be missed. It is the seat of the Massachusetts government), Faneuil Hall (constructed in 1742, it has been an important meeting hall. Today there's a market that offers many places to eat and shop), Beacon Hill (a famous historical neighborhood of Boston, amidst its well preserved streets, you will feel like you've gone back in time), Granary (part of the Freedom Trail, it was built in 1660. The site is the resting place for many prominent personalities and statesmen), Trinity Church (said to be one of the greatest buildings in the country, for a special treat, attend a concert during Christmas season), Harvard University (considered to be the world's greatest academic institution, you can tour its campus to soak in the wonderful ambiance), Copley Square (many important buildings with diverse architecture styles are here. This is also the site of the Boston Marathon's finish line) and many more.
If you want to save time and money, the most important Boston travel tip is to compare prices before booking a hotel room or a flight. You can do this for free on http://bookinghunter.com, a site that searches through hundreds of other travel websites in real time for the best travel deals available.

Boston Travel Video Guide

The Boston Globe Accidentally Tweeted #Investifarted
