Paul Menard held off a charging Jeff Gordon, as well as other drivers who had been saving fuel, to win his 1st career Sprint Cup Series race at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
Kasey Kahne dominated the early part of the race, but his car worsened and he spun while trying to avoid another wrecking car and tore up the front of his car and finished 18th.
Matt Kenseth held solidly in the top 5 for most of the day and came away with a 5th place finish, while Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Jimmie Johnson struggled late and finished 16th and 19th, respectively.

Paul Menard
Paul Menard (born August 21, 1980) is an American professional stock car racing driver. He currently drives the No. 27 Chevrolet SS in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series for Richard Childress Racing, and he also drives the No. 2 Chevrolet Camaro in the Xfinity Series for Richard Childress Racing on a part-time basis. He is the son of Midwestern home improvement tycoon John Menard, Jr., founder of the Menards chain.
Early career
Menard's racing career began at the age of eight when he won the Briggs Junior Karting Class Championship in his native Eau Claire, Wisconsin. He later won the Briggs Medium Class Champion before working his way up to higher level racing. He began ice racing at the age of 15 and won 10 International Ice Racing Association events in his career. He continues to compete in IIRA events in and around Wisconsin. In the summers he raced legends cars on short tracks in Wisconsin. He borrowed Bryan Reffner's Late Model for a week winning his heat race and placing around fourth in the feature. He decided to build his own late model and raced the car three to four times per week. In an interview with Motorsports Minute, Menard said he chose stock cars over Indy Cars because there was no feeder series for Indy Car in his native Wisconsin.

Brickyard 400
Crown Royal Presents the 'Your Hero's Name Here' 400 at the Brickyard (formerly and commonly known as simply the Brickyard 400) is an annual 400-mile (640 km) NASCAR Sprint Cup points race held at Indianapolis Motor Speedway in Speedway, Indiana. The inaugural race was held in 1994, and the 400 was the first race other than the Indianapolis 500 to be held at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway since 1916. In its inaugural season, the Brickyard 400 became NASCAR's most-attended event, drawing an estimated crowd of more than 250,000 spectators in 1994. It also pays NASCAR's second-highest purse, second only to the Daytona 500.
The term "Brickyard" is a reference to the nickname historically used for the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. When the race course opened in 1909, the track surface was crushed stone and tar. That surface was the cause of numerous and sometimes fatal accidents, so the track was repaved with 3.2 million bricks in time for the inaugural Indy 500 in 1911, giving rise to the name Brickyard. Over time the bricks have been covered with asphalt, and now only a one-yard strip of brick at the start/finish line remains exposed.

Xfinity Series
The NASCAR Xfinity Series is a stock car racing series owned and operated by the National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing. It is promoted as NASCAR's "minor league" circuit, and is considered a proving ground for drivers who wish to step up to the organization's top level circuit, the Sprint Cup Series. Xfinity Series races are frequently held in the same venue as, and a day prior to, the Sprint Cup race scheduled for that weekend, encouraging fans to attend both events.
The series was previously called the Budweiser Late Model Sportsman Series in 1982 and 1983, the NASCAR Busch Grand National Series from 1984 through 2003, the NASCAR Busch Series from 2004 through 2007, and the NASCAR Nationwide Series from 2008 through 2014.
History
The series emerged from NASCAR's Sportsman division, which had been formed in 1950 as NASCAR's short track race division. It was NASCAR's fourth series (after the Modified and Roadster series in 1948 and Strictly Stock in 1949). The sportsman cars were not current model cars and could be modified more, but not as much as Modified series cars. It became the Late Model Sportsman Series in 1968, and soon featured races on larger tracks such as Daytona International Speedway. Drivers used obsolete Grand National (now Sprint Cup) cars on larger tracks but by the inception of the touring format in 1982, the series used older compact cars. Short track cars with relatively small 300 cubic inch V-8 motors were used. Drivers used smaller current year models featuring V6 motors.

This is a YABO from Paul Menard---Pauls' Mummy that I snagged from Instagram/Etsy. I'm really diggin' Paul's latest group of pipes (Dracula, Mummy, Warewolf) which are inspired by Peterson's Dracula pipe. I'm lucky to have added yet another of his pipes to my collection! This briar pipe has a chiseled rustication, black and rich red stain, a silver plated metal band and a hand sculpted black swirled acrylic stem. This is a YABO from Paul Menard---Pauls' Mummy that I snagged from Instagram/Etsy. I'm really diggin' Paul's latest group of pipes (Dracula, Mummy, Warewolf) which are inspired by Peterson's Dracula pipe. I'm lucky to have added yet another of his pipes to my collection! This briar pipe has a chiseled rustication, black and rich red stain, a silver plated metal band and a hand sculpted black swirled acrylic stem. Paul Menard held off a charging Jeff Gordon, as well as other drivers who had been saving fuel, to win his 1st career Sprint Cup Series race at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
Kasey Kahne dominated the early part of the race, but his car worsened and he spun while trying to avoid another wrecking car and tore up the front of his car and finished 18th.
Matt Kenseth held solidly in the top 5 for most of the day and came away with a 5th place finish, while Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Jimmie Johnson struggled late and finished 16th and 19th, respectively.

See the final laps, Menard in Victory Lane, and other driver interviews all in this single video! Paul Menard held off a charging Jeff Gordon, as well as other drivers who had been saving fuel, to win his 1st career Sprint Cup Series race at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Kasey Kahne dominated the early part of the race, but his car worsened and he spun while trying to avoid another wrecking car and tore up the front of his car and finished 18th. Matt Kenseth held solidly in the top 5 for most of the day and came away with a 5th place finish, while Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Jimmie Johnson struggled late and finished 16th and 19th, respectively. This is a YABO from Paul Menard---Pauls' Mummy that I snagged from Instagram/Etsy. I'm really diggin' Paul's latest group of pipes (Dracula, Mummy, Warewolf) which are inspired by Peterson's Dracula pipe. I'm lucky to have added yet another of his pipes to my collection! This briar pipe has a chiseled rustication, black and rich red stain, a silver plated metal band and a hand sculpted black swirled acrylic stem. This is a YABO from Paul Menard---Pauls' Mummy that I snagged from Instagram/Etsy. I'm really diggin' Paul's latest group of pipes (Dracula, Mummy, Warewolf) which are inspired by Peterson's Dracula pipe. I'm lucky to have added yet another of his pipes to my collection! This briar pipe has a chiseled rustication, black and rich red stain, a silver plated metal band and a hand sculpted black swirled acrylic stem. It is 7" long and has a chamber diameter of 3/4" and is 1-3/4" deep. Be sure to check out is Etsy site for available pipes!
