Miss Amity Babb: Love is so insidious. It's constantly interfering with the pursuit of... [fingers money] true happiness.

When Eddie and his pals deliver cattle to the Lawrence ranch, they run into trouble with Ringo Evans and his gang. Ringo's men are rustling cattle and attempting to kill the foreman. Seeing the resemblance between the foreman and his pal Waco, Eddie has Waco impersonate the foreman. They then find proof that Evans is behind the rustling but find themselves greatly outnumbered when the gang attacks. Riding into town rancher Hank Lawrence and his foreman Bert Ford are fired at from a distance by outlaws "Knuckles," "Bugsy" and Two-Horn." Outriding the gunmen, the two men suspect that they were rustlers. Meanwhile, Eddie Dean, "Soapy" Jones, Waco and four singing cowhands deliver a herd of cattle to the Lawrence ranch and meet Hank's sister Terry who tells them that her brother and the foreman are in town. They meet at a restaurant in town and a striking resemblance between Waco and Bert Ford is noted. Hank tells Eddie about his problem with rustlers and the attempt to ambush them. Eddie agrees to help his old friend and the first step in his plan is for Waco---more than handy with his guns--- to assume the identity of the foreman. This is a fairly typical B Western for Eddie Dean, who often surprises with his pleasant singing voice and an unusual ability to mix it up with the bad guys when the situation calls for it. As was often the case, Eddie was backed up in this picture by sidekick Roscoe 'Soapy' Ates, along with Lee Bennett who appears in a dual role as their partner Waco Harper and a look alike who serves as a ranch hand for pretty Shirley Patterson's character, Terry Lawrence. It really doesn't get any more complicated than that. The Lawrence spread is the target of cattle rustlers led by villain Ringo Evans (Jack O'Shea), who in turn employs a trio of henchmen, Knuckles (Kermit Maynard), Buggsy (Matty Roubert) and Two Horn (Carl Matthews). You have to give the writers some credit here for those bad guy nicknames, they were pretty colorful. Eddie engages Kermit Maynard in a brief but effective scuffle early in the picture, and had it gone longer it might have cracked my list of Best Western Movie Brawls posted elsewhere on this site. Say, keep an eye on that scene when Eddie dives off the boulder into the pond making his getaway from the bad guys. I don't know how he managed it, but when Eddie came back up for air, he still had his cowboy hat on. How does that work? In real life I mean, as far as the story goes it just appears par for the course. Along with the title song, Eddie teams up with The Sunshine Boys to offer up '1501 Miles of Heaven' (a reference to the size of Texas), and 'On the Sands of The Old Rio Grande'. They're all pleasant tunes and feature Dean's singing voice in fine form. Following his movie career, Dean recorded quite a few songs, mostly on lesser known recording labels, and he achieved additional financial success with tunes he penned for singers Jimmy Wakely (One Has My Name, The Other Has My Heart), and Tex Ritter (I Dreamed of a Hillbilly Heaven). Well into his eighties, Eddie often made frequent appearances at Western film and nostalgia conventions. Stars Over Texas (1946) Full Length Western Films

A man posing as Mark Henry is after Henry's oil land but Henry's sexy niece is part owner and he needs to marry her off to his henchman Slager. Mountie Jim Sullivan arives posing as a wanted man and is soon caught up in the plot when Slager, wanting everything for himself, kills his boss and makes Jim a prisoner. This film features Kermit Maynard at his best. Kermit had a far better personality than brother Ken . He was 'likeable ' , but did not have the the 'star' look . He was far more imaginative in his stunts and riding than Ken . Each of Kermits films demonstrate that fact as can be seen in this film . This entire series has to rank as one of the better B-western series in the 30's . This is quite a feat considering the studio .A big drawback was most of his films were Mountie films and the public was not that much into Mounties. Ann Sheridan is in an early role in her career . She still is getting used to the camera as seen in various close-ups , but no question that a star is in the making . The 'cheapness' of the production centers in the fact that most of the story takes place in a cabin and has a lot of chases . Still this is an enjoyable little film with some of the plot variations that 'indies ' were more prone to do than the 'cookie-cutter' formulas of the major B-western studios. They always had good germs of plots that could have been more well developed with a bigger budget. Kermit Maynard (September 20, 1897 – January 16, 1971) was an American actor and stuntman. He appeared in 280 films between 1927 and 1962. He was a younger brother of actor Ken Maynard. He was born in Vevay, Indiana, and played college football as a lineman for the Indiana Hoosiers in the early 1920s. He died in North Hollywood, California, from a heart attack.
Roy Rogers, born Leonard Franklin Slye (November 5, 1911 – July 6, 1998), was an American singer and cowboy actor, one of the most heavily marketed and merchandised stars of his era, as well as being the namesake of the Roy Rogers Restaurants franchised chain. He and his wife Dale Evans, his golden palomino, Trigger, and his German Shepherd dog, Bullet, were featured in more than 100 movies and The Roy Rogers Show. The show ran on radio for nine years before moving to television from 1951 through 1957. His productions usually featured a sidekick, often either Pat Brady (who drove a Jeep called "Nellybelle"), Andy Devine, or the crotchety George "Gabby" Hayes. Rogers's nickname was "King of the Cowboys". Evans's nickname was "Queen of the West."
Leonard Franklin Slye was born to Andrew ("Andy") and Mattie (Womack) Slye in Cincinnati, Ohio, where his family lived in a tenement building on 2nd Street. (Riverfront Stadium was constructed at this location in 1970 and Leonard would later joke that he had been born at second base.) Dissatisfied with his job and city life, Andy Slye and his brother Will built a 12-by-50-foot houseboat from salvage lumber, and, in July 1912, the Slye family floated up the Ohio River towards Portsmouth, Ohio. Desiring a more stable existence in Portsmouth, the Slyes purchased land on which to build a home, but the flood of 1913 allowed them to move the houseboat to their property and continue living in it on dry land.
