Zoom out of studio technician, AUDIO: Iranian pop music STORYLINE As the anchorwoman reads classic Iranian poetry into the studio microphone with popular Persian music in the background, one may be led to believe the radio station is in Tehran, but the flag in the background confirms the contrary; the radio station is located in Israel. While Israeli leaders are increasing belligerent, warnings of a potential military strike against Iran's nuclear installations, a group of Iranian-Israelis are transmitting a different message over the airwaves. Radio RadisIN, a private Farsi-language station based in Tel Aviv, airs Iranian music, poetry and current affair programmes, aiming to spread peace between the Israeli and Iranian people, regardless of who runs both countries. According to Shay Amir, CEO of RadisIN radio, the station broadcasts via internet and cable TV, and 100-thousand listeners tune in daily, including some Iranians from inside Iran. The radio station says, despite the very slow speed of Internet inside Iran and continuous crackdowns on several websites by the Iranian authorities, listeners from various locations inside Iran, are logging on to the website of the radio station, in order to listen to the programmes. Amir also said the radio station takes calls from Iranian listeners, who often criticise their regime and express affection for Israel. For fear of exposing these callers, and having them branded as "collaborators" by the Iranian regime, the station asked The Associated Press not to record those conversations allegedly being made from inside Iran. Following June 2009 controversial presidential elections in Iran the Internet speed has dropped dramatically and many websites have been blocked in a common government tactic to foil opposition attempts to organise. RadinIN relies mainly on anonymous sponsors and donations and it airs some commercials as well. Amir talks enthusiastically about RadisIN's achievements since it first aired.
