In order to bring their eco lodge to the next level, they requested for assistance from CESO to improve their food and hospitality services to guests. CESO sent volunteer advisor Ralph Graham, an executive chef who has cooked for renowed individuals, such as the queen of England, to Surama eco lodge, where he taught skills related to food preparation, sanitation and hospitality to employees. L'auberge écologique de Surama est une entreprise d'écotourisme communautaire basée dans une région rurale du Guyana. L'entreprise appartient à la communauté environnante d'Amériendiens Makushi, qui s'occupe en outre de sa gestion. Souhaitant faire passer leur entreprise à l'étape suivante, les Makushi ont fait appel à SACO en vue d'améliorer leurs services de restauration et d'accueil. SACO a envoyé le conseiller volontaire Ralph Graham, un chef qui a cuisiné pour des personnalités de renom comme la reine d'Angleterre, à l'auberge de Surama, où il a enseigné aux employés des compétences liées à la préparation alimentaire, à l'hygiène et à l'accueil. The Best PPP Campaign Rally Ever - Ministers Answer Tough Questions

I went to a PPP/C rally to listen to the candidates and ask a few important questions of my own. One day after the current Minister of Health Dr. Beri Ramsaran was recorded talking about wanting to slap a woman for fun, calling her an idiot and a piece of sh@t... Real Guyana naturally had a few questions. This year the PPP/C are campaigning strongly on women's issues, we see ads saying they believe in us people and hear speeches about their commitment to the people and their security. Naturally I expected answers from people whose jobs as our representatives are centered around attending to our needs and answering our questions. I was eventually pushed away after trying multiple times to get a comment from the Minister of Education, Priya Manickchand, someone fond of casting herself as a champion of women's rights. I struggled to get anything out of newly minted PPP/C youth campaigner and it seems former social activist Clinton Urling on the recording which has already gone viral. The adviser to the president told me flat out he wasn't interested in hearing what had happened and that was it...crickets chirping in the meadow. At the end of the very poorly attended rally as the crickets were drowned out by the vote PPP tune coming out of the massive speakers they brought, as I looked at all the official immediately get into their cars and depart the scene without staying to mingle or answer questions from the people paying their salaries and sending their kids to school...as I was rejected over and over for raising an issue central to their campaign efforts in 2015, disappointed doesn't begin to describe it. There are many parties contesting this year's general election, don't forget that. You don't HAVE to vote for anything you don't agree with and Real Guyana doesn't believe in abuse. All I wanted was to connect with a human being, a government minister that could admit what is plain for all to see, that their colleague was wrong. That would have added some weight to the claim of being committed to transparency and accountability. All I wanted was some honesty and some remorse for the shame such acts bring upon a party campaigning increasing desperation. The racism and fear-mongering at other rallies organized by this party, reported in the media, I can't say I was present for. This however, gave me an opportunity to make up my own mind. I can now see for myself what folks mean about people who see little value in chatter with the average person on the street save to garner their vote then let them get on with it. I know what happened tonight and given the level of corruption in present day Guyana under the Jagdeo/Ramotar administration it shouldn't have been surprising but I am in shock. It's time for us to call a spade a spade and it doesn't matter who is in power. Before you dismiss this post as pro-opposition first see it as anti-corruption for that is what it is. Shameful acts like these corrupt the moral fabric of our society and leave us progressively worse off as a people. See the link for the full recording below and think about this. Once we let one or two politicians get away with disgraceful behavior without holding them accountable, everyone starts getting in on the action. The women of Guyana deserve more than this and the men a better example. The youth deserve leaders conscious of their impact on the constructive or destructive social attitudes of the future, those who temper their passions in the present to lead from the front. No human being deserves to be spoken to or treated like an animal least of all a woman who has so selflessly devoted herself to advocating on behalf of the voiceless and oppressed in the Guyana of today. We must expect better and we must be prepared to demand it. Your vote is your weapon, use it wisely. Over to you... Welcome To Guyana. Four corners worth of baricades were erected and police were present to make sure none of the taxpayers whose money was stolen to build the edifice, were able to voice their disagreement. Guyana needs more fearless people like this who defy our politicians expectation that we will be subservient and go silent in the face of injustice. Protesting your right to live free from endemic corruption is nothing wrong. It is something to be celebrated and encouraged. Especially when 12billion dollars just got flushed down the toilet.

A few months ago the Government of Guyana embarked on a 1billion dollar 'Clean Up My Country' campaign. There were serious questions raised even before the project got off the ground about how the money was to be spent and the strong chance it was another political gimmick conceived to siphon even more state resources. Never mind what I think, see for yourself and make up your own mind as to whether the campaign was a success as the camera starts rolling again for 2015. This video touches on so many issues it's difficult to list them all but observe something that speaks to our fundamental issue in Guyana; there are laws...but those laws are not consistently enforced if at all. There are laws governing disposal of waste and preserving the sanctity of our environment but no one enforcing them. There are laws and regulations regarding how the transportation system is supposed to operate, prohibiting music in the buses, blocking off the front and loading from the rear, profanity, verbal abuse, harassment... but again the enforcement mechanism is woefully deficient. Travel Planet: Guyanese Foods (Cuisines) - Lets eat the Guyanese Way...

Guyanese cuisine is very similar to the rest of the Anglo Caribbean. The food reflects the ethnic makeup of the country and its colonial history, and includes African, Creole, East Indian, Portuguese, Amerindian, Chinese and European (mostly British) influences and dishes. The food is diverse and includes dishes such as curry and roti, and Cookup Rice, the local variation on the Caribbean rice and peas. The one pot meal while not the national dish is one of the most cooked dishes. With its various versions, according to what type of meat, peas and other ingredients available, is a true reflection of the country. Dishes have been adapted to Guyanese tastes, often by the addition of herbs and spices. Unique preparations include Pepperpot, a stew of Amerindian origin made with meat, cassareep (a bitter extract of the cassava), and seasonings. Other favourites are cassava bread, stews, and Metemgie, a thick rich type of soup with ground provision, coconut milk and large dumplings (called Duff), eaten with fried fish or chicken. Homemade bread-making, an art in many villages, is a reflection of the British influence that includes pastries such as cheese rolls, pine (pineapple) tarts, and patties. Curry is widely popular in Guyana and includes most types of meat that can be curried including chicken, seafood, goat, lamb, and even duck. Guyanese style Chow Mein is another dish that is cooked regularly in many homes. Caribbean ground provisions (known colloquially as provisions) are part of the staple diet and include cassava, sweet potato, edoes and others. There is an abundance of fresh fruits, vegetables and seafood on the coast. Most individuals use fresh fruits to make their own beverages, which are called "local drink", which are made from readily available fruits or other parts of plants. Popular homemade drinks are Lime Water (like lemonade), pine drink (from a pinapple)mauby, made from the bark of a tree; sorrel drink, made from hibiscus; ginger beer (made from ginger root), and peanut punch. Fresh fish and seafood are an integral part of the Guyanese diet especially in the rural areas and small villages along the coast. Popular fish types include gilbaka, butter fish. tilapia, catfish, and hassa. The crab soups with okra from the Berbice coastal region resemble the Louisiana Creole soups like gumbo. Christmas and Old Year's Night (New Years) is the the most celebrated time for Guyanese for food and festivities. Advance preparation is part of the exciting pre-preparation for Christmas celebrations. It starts with the preparation and soaking of fruits and rum or wine for Black Cake weeks or sometimes months ahead to intensify the flavor. Local drinks such as Ginger beer, Maubi, and Sorrel are fermented and require a sitting (pre-preparation) period prior to making. Ginger Beer is the Christmas drink of Choice, similar to the popularity of Egg Nog in North America. Some dishes certain to be served are Guyana pepperpot, garlic pork, black cake, sponge cake and Home Made bread. Some of the local drinks and food require advance preparation. Guyanese style Chinese food and fried chicken are the most popular restaurant and take-out items, and are found in the bigger towns. Popular Chinese dishes include lo mein, chow mein, and Chicken in the ruff (fried rice with Chinese-style fried chicken). Guyanese cuisine is a culinary hybrid with African, East Indian, Portuguese, and Chinese influences. Guyanese usually cook three full meals every day. Favorite dishes include pepperpot, roti and curry, chow mein, meta gee (dumplings made from cornflour, eddoes, yams, cassava and plantains cooked in coconut milk and grated coconut), and cook up, a one-pot meal that can include any favorite meats or vegetables. Popular homemade drinks are mauby, made from the bark of a tree (said to enhance potency), sorrel, made from a leafy vegetable used in salads, and ginger beer.
