The following is a list of the world's 100+ highest mountains per height above sea level (>7,200 metres / 23,622 feet), all of which are located in central and southern Asia. Only those summits are included that, by an objective measure, may be considered individual mountains as opposed to subsidiary peaks.
The dividing line between a mountain with multiple peaks and separate mountains is not always clear (see also Highest unclimbed mountain). A popular and intuitive way to distinguish mountains from subsidiary peaks is by their height above the highest saddle connecting it to a higher summit, a measure called topographic prominence or re-ascent (the higher summit is called the "parent peak"). A common definition of a mountain is a summit with 300 m (980 ft) prominence. Alternatively, a relative prominence (prominence/height) is used (usually 7-8%) to reflect that in higher mountain ranges everything is on a larger scale. The table below lists the highest 100 summits with at least 500 m (1,640 ft) prominence, approximating a 7% relative prominence. A drawback of a prominence-based list is that it may exclude well-known or spectacular mountains that are connected via a high ridge to a taller summit, like the Eiger or Nuptse. A few such peaks and mountains with nearly sufficient prominence are included but not numbered in this list.

After many days of intense snow and wind in early january 2015 I climbed Mount Toubkal, the highest peak in North Africa. The summit hadn’t been touched in several days which made the climb much more adventurous. The video will show you the way from Imlil to the summit, and hopefully give you the full experience of climbing Mt. Toubkal.
PLEASE NOTE that this trek can be a complete different experience from season to season and in the winter you will need crampons and an ice

Join us on day 1 of our trek as we start out from the village of Imlil and head deep into the heart of the Atlas Mountains, making for the Refuge du Toubkal.

In eastern Africa, a chain of magnificent volcanoes blister the face of the earth. Some are dead, others sleep and at least one is very much alive. There's the Black Mountain, the Sacred Mountain and, most famous of all, an icon of Africa, the Great White Mountain - Kilimanjaro. To indigenous tribes these legendary volcanoes are the homes of the gods and known as the Mountains of Eden. Lying three degrees south of the equator in Tanzania, these earthly pimples are astonishingly di

How The Sahara Desert Was Formed---Full GEOLOGY Documentary
The Sahara is the world’s largest hot desert and one of the harshest environments on the planet. It is third largest desert overall after Antarctica and the Arctic, which are cold deserts.
At 3.6 million square miles (9.4 million square kilometers), the Sahara, which is Arabic for "The Great Desert," engulfs most of North Africa. The desert covers large sections of Algeria, Chad, Egypt, Libya, Mali, Mauritania, Morocco, Niger, Western Sahara, Sudan and Tunisia.
The Sahara is bordered by the Atlantic Ocean on the western edge, the Atlas Mountains and the Mediterranean Sea to the north, the Red Sea on the east, and the Sudan and the valley of the Niger River on the south. The Sahara is divided into western Sahara, the central Hoggar (Ahaggar) Mountains, the Tibesti Mountains, the Air Mountains, an area of desert mountains and high plateaus, Ténéré desert and the Libyan desert, which is the most arid region.
In the north, the Sahara reaches to the Mediterranean Sea in Egypt and portions of Libya. In Cyrenaica and the Maghreb, the Sahara experiences a more Mediterranean climate with a winter rainy season.
Major cities located in the Sahara include Cairo, Egypt; Tripoli, Libya; Nouakchott, the capital of Mauritania; Tamanrasset, Ouargla, Bechar, Hassi Messaoud, Ghardaia, and El Oued in Algeria; Timbuktu in Mali; Agadez in Niger; and Faya-Largeau in Chad.
The Sahara’s northeasterly winds can reach hurricane level and often give rise to sand storms and dust devils. Half of the Sahara receives less than an inch of rain per year, and the rest receives up to 4 inches (10 centimeters) per year. The infrequent rain is usually torrential.
The highest peak in the Sahara is the volcano Emi Koussi (11,204 feet or 3,415 meters) in the Tibesti Mountains in northern Chad. The desert’s other mountains and mountain ranges include the Aïr Mountains, Hoggar (Ahaggar) Mountains, Saharan Atlas, Tibesti Mountains, Adrar des Iforas and the Red Sea hills.
Many people imagine the Sahara as dotted with sand dunes, and the desert does have its share of ergs, which are large areas of shifting sand dunes, with some of some of them reaching 590 feet (180 meters). However, most of the Sahara is characterized as rocky hamada, a type of desert landscape that has very little sand and is made up of primarily barren, hard, rocky plateaus.
With the exception of the Nile River, the Sahara’s rivers and streams are irregular or seasonal. The Nile crosses the desert from its origins in central Africa to empty into the Mediterranean.
The central part of the Sahara has extremely limited vegetation. The northern and southern reaches of the desert, along with the highlands, have areas of sparse grassland and desert shrub, with trees and taller shrubs.

With the advent of space exploration in the twentieth century, geologists have begun to look at other planetary bodies in the same ways that have been developed to study the Earth. This new field of study is called planetary geology (sometimes known as astrogeology) and relies on known geologic principles to study other bodies of the solar system.
Although the Greek-language-origin prefix geo refers to Earth, "geology" is often used in conjunction with the names of other planetary bodies when describing their composition and internal processes: examples are "the geology of Mars" and "Lunar geology". Specialised terms such as selenology (studies of the Moon), areology (of Mars), etc., are also in use.
Although planetary geologists are interested in studying all aspects of other planets, a significant focus is to search for evidence of past or present life on other worlds. This has led to many missions whose primary or ancillary purpose is to examine planetary bodies for evidence of life. One of these is the Phoenix lander, which analyzed Martian polar soil for water, chemical, and mineralogical constituents related to biological processes.

A hour of watching the Mathioya River at the foot of Mount Kenya in the Aberdares in Central Province in Kenya.
See the Kingfisher bird hunting for fish at 39:15. A Kingfisher eats one kilo of fish everyday.
The great River Mathioya is named after the constituency and which is one of the hardest rafting rivers in Kenya with over 137 ft of descent over its 13.7-mile length. It attracts tourists who risk kayaking through the swift meanders. Mathioya Constituency has a steep hilly topography and a climate suitable mainly for tea production, although there are pockets of coffee plantations. The lower parts of Mathioya also grow the macadamia nuts which were introduced in the mid 80’s by the Kenya Nut Company, while the upper part, which is much cooler due to the proximity to Mount Kenya grows pears, plums, and apples.
The main ecosystems within the mountain range are rainforest giving way to dense bamboo forests and then moorland. The steep western edges of the hillside are sparsely inhabited by wildlife compared to the forested gentle slopes to the east, which are home to a wide variety of wildlife. There are multitudes of elephant, buffalo, giant forest hog as well as the endangered Black Rhino. A variety of cats including leopards and the rare African Golden Cat. Other threatened species including the Jackson mongoose, the black and white Colobus monkey and Sykes monkey are plentiful, as are waterbuck, reedbuck, duikers, serval cats and bushbuck.
The Aberdares contain a rich diversity of vegetation. There are 778 vegetation and plant species, subspecies and varieties found in the Aberdare National Park, due to the park's altitude and rainfall. Hardwood trees include camphor, Cedar, Podo and Hagenia.
Much of the Aberdares mountain range has been protected within the Aberdare National Park since its creation in 1950. The range attracts large numbers of hikers and climbers operating out of the main centers of Naivasha and Gilgil. The lower slopes are farmed, higher areas are known for their wildlife. The Rhino Charge is an annual event run by conservationists in Kenya to pay for fencing of the Aberdare National Park as a means of protecting East Africa's largest indigenous forest from destruction.
Mount Kenya is the highest mountain in Kenya and the second-highest in Africa, after Kilimanjaro. The highest peaks of the mountain are Batian (5,199 metres (17,057 ft)), Nelion (5,188 metres (17,021 ft)) and Point Lenana (4,985 metres (16,355 ft)). Mount Kenya is located in central Kenya, about 16.5 kilometres (10.3 mi) south of the equator, around 150 kilometres (93 mi) north-northeast of the capital Nairobi. Mount Kenya is the source of the name of the Republic of Kenya.
Mount Kenya is a stratovolcano created approximately 3 million years after the opening of the East African rift. Before glaciation, it was 7,000 m (23,000 ft) high. It was covered by an ice cap for thousands of years. This has resulted in very eroded slopes and numerous valleys radiating from the centre. There are currently 11 small glaciers. The forested slopes are an important source of water for much of Kenya.
There are several vegetation bands from the base to the summit. The lower slopes are covered by different types of forest. Many alpine species are endemic to Mount Kenya, such as the giant lobelias and senecios and a local subspecies of rock hyrax. An area of 715 km2 (276 sq mi) around the centre of the mountain was designated a National Park and listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997. The park receives over 16,000 visitors per year.

Elephants of the Great White Mountain Kilimanjaro - Elephant Graveyards on Mount Kilimanjaro?
DescriptionThe highest free-standing mountain in the World
This documentary looks at the Elephants and many other animals that climb the slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro
Lying three degrees south of the equator in Tanzania, these earthly pimples are astonishingly diverse. Snow capped peaks and glaciers rise above an alien landscape populated by plants seemingly from another world. Lower slopes are blanketed with forests and at its base, the mountain opens out onto vast savannahs where huge herds roam. The largest and most impressive of all the animals that live on and around the Great White Mountain are elephants. Much less familiar are the shy and rarely seen elephants that dwell in the high forests. In the past, elephants roamed freely up and down the mountain. Now they run a treacherous gauntlet as more and more of the slopes are cultivated. As the elephants trudge upward they disappear into thick rain forest. Animals abound here, like Colobus monkeys, buffalos and silvery cheeked hornbills. Elephants are not designed to scramble up and down steep slopes. Deep ravines represent insurmountable barriers. No elephant has ever reached the top of Kilimanjaro (19,340 ft) but a skeleton was found at sixteen thousand feet. Bleached bones provide proof but why would one of these great beasts ascend so far up the Great White Mountain? No one will know what really happened high on Kilimanjaro but lower down the forest elephants are beginning to reveal some of their secrets.....
The legend of elephant graveyards is widespread, and goes back a long way. According to stories, elephants know when they are nearing the end of their lives. When they sense that their time has come, they journey off alone to the elephant graveyard, where they die amongst the bones of all their ancestors (and are later visited by their descendants).
Part of the appeal of the story is romantic, of course, but an equally compelling reason behind the legend’s persistence (and one that leaves a bit of a bad taste in your mouth) is that the “elephant graveyard” is a little like an El Dorado to the listeners. Finding such a place would mean finding huge amounts of ivory…and therefore, huge amounts of money.
The Chagga people, who have always lived on Kili’s slopes, have their own special twist on the tale. According to their myths, there is an elephant graveyard high upon the slopes of Kili, beyond the snow line. When elephants in the region realize their time is near, they climb the mountain and fling themselves into a pit, where hundreds of their forebears have gone before.
Why such a dramatic end for Kili elephants? Because, according to the legend, these creatures want to foil the hunters and poachers that hounded them in life. By flinging themselves into this unreachable pit, they not only die among their ancestors, they get to give one last “screw you” to would-be poachers. Some versions of the legend even claim that no one who finds the graveyard can take away the tusks and live; the place isn’t just remote and forbidding, it’s cursed.
The idea of elephants flinging themselves off mountainsides might seem like fodder for a giant, wrinkly-grey soap opera, but it may not be far from the truth. Elephants have lived on Kili for thousands of years, and though populations on the mountain have dwindled, there is still evidence of herds in the forests.
Moreover, there’s some evidence for the icy-cold graveyard theory. In his introduction to the book Kilimanjaro: To The Roof Of Africa, famed photographer and filmmaker David Breashears tells of the time he heard stories of elephant bones high on Kilimanjaro… and eventually found a skeleton 15,000 feet up the mountain.
Was it cursed? Nobody knows; Breashears didn’t try to take it down with him

Travel video about destination South-Africa.
Johannesburg is the commercial centre of South Africa. Since gold was first discovered there, everything has revolved around money and from the 50th floor of Africa’s tallest building, The Carlton Towers, there is an all-engulfing view of the city’s narrow streets and jungle of concrete and glass. The African Museum is a contemporary building and one of South Africa’s most exquisite landmarks, it contains a large variety of geological exhibits and detailed accounts of the city’s past surface mining that gave rise to the country’s massive gold rush. The resistance to apartheid is also illustrated, as well as the history of Africa’s native inhabitants who journeyed from present day Botswana to the south of the country. In contrast to Johannesburg, Pretoria grew at a calmer pace and has developed from a Boer farming municipality into South Africa’s administrative capital. Located on a hill is the Vortrekker Monument that is a reminder of the Boers’ Great Trek and, in 1830, the crucial battle in which they defeated the Zulus. Sun City is a magnificent fantasy world full of African ambience and the Sun City Hotel is the casino that made Sol Kerzner the richest man in South Africa, whereas the futuristic Cascades Hotel derived its name from its wonderful setting of waterfalls, pools and lush plant life. The route travels northeast over the misty and one time heavily defended Drakens Mountains in the direction of the Kruger Park that extends along the border with Mosambique. From Kruger, the journey continues across Swaziland and Kwazulu Natal to Port Elizabeth on the Indian Ocean’s south coast. Along the rocky coastline a road leads to the southernmost tip of Africa, the Cape Of Good Hope. For those lucky enough to experience it, the drive on the spectacular mountain road around the Cape is an amazing adventure. One of the many natural wonders of this unique land that unites European influence with African pride.

Toubkal.
PLEASE NOTE that this trek can be a complete different experience from season to season and in the winter you will need crampons and an ice axe – as well as a local guide if you’re not use to the altitude, snow, ice and steep walks.
Please Enjoy!

Kilimanjaro via the 7-day Machame-Mweka Route
The Machame-Mweka route of Kilimanjaro is one of the most popular, traversing numerous distinctive eco zones ranging from steamy tropical rainforest to arid alpine desert, offering stunning scenery which we hope we have captured adequately in this film! We did the route over 7 days to aid with acclimatisation during the season of the ‘short rains’ in November 2014. This turned out to be a good idea as the weather was actually very good overall and the route much less busy and congested than it would be during peak season, allowing us moments of true solitude. Our GPS recorded the almost 48 kilometres covered by this route and over 5,000m of ascent and descent.
We booked our climb over the internet with a local company based in Moshi (Kilismile) and were delighted with the excellent service provided by our guides, cook and porters. Our grateful thanks to them all.

How The Sahara Desert Was Formed---Full GEOLOGY Documentary
