Growing premium quality table grapes has been an ever developing process here in the Central Valley of California. Grapes are grown elsewhere but like most fresh produce crops California leads the way. Over the last 10 years the process has been under growing a large and initially expensive change from the traditional post and wire rows of grape vines to these far superior high hung T-framed growing support systems. To maintain freshness grapes are harvested and packed in the field by workers and loaded onto local trucks for transport to the coolers. Daily temperatures range from 95f to 110f in the fields so harvesting, packing and transport has to be done asap. This production method provides from having a high quality table grape from of dust and pests with the least amount of expense. The grape bunches grow under the protection of the foliage protected from sunburn. Before planting your small section of table grapes consider the best options for growing the vines on a arbor or similar support system for the best results.

It originated from the merger of two workers' rights organizations, the Agricultural Workers Organizing Committee (AWOC) led by Filipino organizer Larry Itliong, and the National Farm Workers Association (NFWA) led by César Chávez. They became allied and transformed from workers' rights organizations into a union as a result of a series of strikes in 1965, when the mostly Filipino farmworkers of the AWOC in Delano, California initiated a grape strike, and the NFWA went on strike in support. As a result of the commonality in goals and methods, the NFWA and the AWOC formed the United Farm Workers Organizing Committee on August 22, 1966. This organization was accepted into the AFL-CIO in 1972 and changed its name to the United Farmworkers Union... Dolores Huerta grew up in Stockton, California, which was in the San Joaquin Valley, an area filled with farms. In the early 1950s, she completed a degree at Delta Community College, part of the University of the Pacific. She briefly worked as an elementary school teacher. Huerta saw that her students, many of them children of farm workers, were living in poverty without enough food to eat or other basic necessities. To help, she became one of the founders of the Stockton chapter of the Community Service Organization (CSO). The CSO worked to improve social and economic conditions for farm workers and to fight discrimination. By 1959, César Chávez had already established professional relationships with local community organizations that aimed to empower the working class population by encouraging them to become more politically active. In 1952, Chávez met Fred Ross who was a community organizer working on behalf of the Community Service Organization. This was a group which was affiliated with the Industrial Areas Foundation which was headed by Saul Alinsky. To further her cause, Huerta created the Agricultural Workers Association (AWA) in 1960... In 1962, she co-founded a workers' union with César Chávez, which was later known as the United Farm Workers (UFW). The two made a great team. Chávez was the dynamic leader and speaker and Huerta was a skilled organizer and tough negotiator. Huerta was instrumental in the union's many successes, including the strikes against California grape growers in the 1960s and 1970s... Although still in its infant stages, the organization lent its support to a strike by workers in the rose industry in 1965. This initial protest by the young organization resulted in a failed attempt to strike against the rose industry. That same year the farm workers who worked in the Delano fields of California wanted to strike against the growers in response to the grower’s refusal to raise wages from $1.20 to $1.40 an hour, and they sought out Chávez and the National Farm Workers Association for support. The Delano agricultural workers were majority Filipino workers who were affiliated with the Agricultural Workers Organizing Committee which was a charter of the American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations. The unification of these two organizations, in an attempt to boycott table grapes which were grown in the Delano fields, resulted in the creation of the United Farm Workers of America...

California is perhaps best known for her beach communities. Places like San Diego, Santa Monica and San Francisco are known the world over as popular destination points for visitors to the Golden States. However, locals here know there’s wonder to be found inland too, including rugged, snow-capped mountain ranges, breathtaking expanses of desert as well as regions of year-round temperate climate where warm summers and mild winters provide fertile ground for cattle and horse ranches as well as farms producing bumper crops of climate-sensitive produce such as avocados, oranges and vineyards of wine and table grapes. The travel and adventure possibilities in Southern California are especially ample, and a drive of only an hour in any direction from Los Angeles can take the explorer through amazing scenery and landscapes which transition within minutes through drastic shifts in elevation. One of the most extreme examples of such change is the swift and complete decent from high mountains to low desert along the famous “Pines to Palms” Highway, more formally known as California State Highway 74. This well-engineered road drops from the regions below San Jacinto Peak (10,834 ft. 3,302 m) to the sub sea level desert playa surrounding the Salton Sea (-234 ft. -71.3m) over a relatively short distance. The views from the road are breathtaking and the mountain and desert scenery quite diverse and breathtaking. The road terminates in the upscale community of Palm Desert, where imported water has reclaimed a unique and upscale community from the desert sands. Come with me now for a twenty minute motorcycle descent and adventure along one of California’s premier motoring venues and into one of California’s most affluent communities. ---- My name is Kurt Bell and I am delighted that you have taken some time to share a little of the experience of life with me. The stages of living between these events: childhood, adolescence, adulthood, parenthood and senior are themselves natural and in accord with the needs of the species and most individuals. Many find their satisfaction in living this course and to these individuals I have little or nothing to say. Others though long for something more; something innate, genetic and seemingly calling. Adventure and change can give a degree of satisfaction and relief yet even these may seem too tame. To those who feel drawn to something beyond the entertainment and stimulation of senses I offer a walk along The Path of Wildness. Don't bother penciling the event in your schedule, preparing a pack with goodies and supplies or even inviting a friend along, for this experience is along the course of your first inclination and you must surely always go alone. 16 December 2014 Speech EP Plenary Debate Autonomus Trade Preferences for Moldovan apples, plums and grapes Madam President, for the EU this file is a gesture that is symbolic in purely economic terms, but is of great political significance at a critically historic juncture for Moldova and, indeed, for our entire European Neighbourhood. For Moldova, it is a breath of fresh air in a sector of vital importance for the Moldovan economy: fruit growing. Its importance, however, goes beyond apples and plums, as we shall see in a moment. It also serves as a practical demonstration of solidarity in the face of hardship. The EU and Moldova signed their Association Agreement on 27 June 2014. The Moldovan Parliament quickly ratified it on 2 July 2014. As if by coincidence, shortly thereafter an import ban was imposed by Russia on agricultural products from Moldova. On 7 August 2014, Russia also imposed a ban on food imports from the EU itself in the context of the Ukrainian crisis, which, of course, is linked to the wider question of our Eastern Neighbourhood. The root of the problem lies in the fact that Russia sees itself, wrongly of course, as the object of some sort of geopolitical plot by the Western world. It is a conflict generated by a dramatic clash of world views. It is the 19th century fighting the 21st century. Blood, invasion from within, propaganda, lies and apples became the ingredients of a very strange new form of warfare. Seeking some relief, the Moldovan authorities have turned to the EU requesting urgent support to reduce the economic impact of the Russian ban, in particular for the most important products of Moldovan food growers: apples, plums and table grapes. The Commission decided to respond positively. The Council agreed and I hope we, the Parliament, will also give our blessing this week. The ban is hurting Moldova’s economy in a rather dramatic way. Agriculture accounts for around 40% of Moldova’s GDP. Its horticultural sector alone employs a quarter of a million people – that is 10% of the active Moldovan population. Obviously they mostly live in rural areas and they cultivate small and medium family plots. A few words on the legal context of this proposal: the Autonomous Trade Preferences (ATPs) are an instrument whereby a trading power, such as ourselves, may offer concessions to a country in order to support its economy without asking for trade concessions in exchange. ATPs for Moldova were originally introduced by the EU in 2008 by the very regulation that we are amending this week. The Commission now proposes to amend the ATP regulation by introducing three new duty-free quotas for fresh apples (40 000 tonnes), tables grapes and plums (10 000 tonnes each). The quotas will apply until the end of 2015, when the whole regime will expire. The quotas for the three products concerned are extremely limited in volume compared to the potentially competing EU production. For apples, for instance, which is the most sensitive product, it is only 0.4% of our production, and they address very different market segments than most EU production. More specifically, in light of the cultural and geographical proximity with Romania, it is very likely that most of the additional volumes of the three products will be absorbed easily by the Romanian market. For apples, for example, Romania this year has a fall of 22% in production, and the quota under discussion tonight covers only 8% only of Romanian production. So there is still a gap there to be filled by others. A few words now in Romanian.

Close up video of some vine plants with grapes, not yet fully ripe. - HD.There are many varieties of grapevine, which will provide bunches of grapes that can be eaten as a dessert or can be used to produce wine – although some can be used for both.
Allowing proper spacing between grape vines is a vital consideration when planning and planting. Be sure to allow 10-14 feet between plants for most type, plantation of grape-bearing vines, grown mainly for wine making, but also raisins, table grapes and non-alcoholic grape juice. The science, practice and study of vineyard production is known as viticulture.

The Inquisitr 2015-04-09Table grapes are grapes intended for consumption while they are fresh, as opposed to grapes grown for wine production, juice production, or for drying into raisins.
Table varieties usually have lower sugar content than wine grapes and are more flavorful when eaten. Their flavors, however, do not survive fermentation(rotting) and their low sugar content means that any wine produced from them is weak, bland-tasting and easy to deteriorate. Depending on the market for wine and table grapes, low quality wine may contain some grapes that could also be sold as table grapes, particularly Thompson Seedless. Other grapes sold as table grapes are Flame, Sultana, Muscat, Almeria and Concord grape.
