The Celtic heritage of the bounding lands to the north and east gives the sea its name, first proposed by E. W. L. Holt at a 1921 meeting in Dublin of fisheries experts from England, Ireland, Scotland and France. The northern portion of this sea had previously been considered as part of Saint George's Channel and the southern portion as an undifferentiated part of the "Southwest Approaches" to Britain. The need for a common name came to be felt because of the common marine biology, geology and hydrology. It was adopted in France before being common in the English-speaking countries. It was adopted by marine biologists and oceanographers, and later by oil exploration firms. It is named in a 1963 British atlas, but a 1972 article states "what British maps call the western approaches, and what the oil industry calls the Celtic Sea [...] certainly the residents on the western coast [of Great Britain] don't refer to it as such."
Filmed at one of beaches near St Ives, Cornwall, UK. I love this sea and visit often as it is a short walk from where I live. Please excuse the filming I'm r...

Taken from 2015's Singing at Sea cruise, The Browns "wowed" the audience again with a lively instrumental featuring Michaela on a driving Celtic beat. The cruise is always a wonderful week full of music, preaching, fellowship and tropical destinations. Highly recommend! Down below, however, the sea was just something else, and since it was still pretty humid, it was a delight to swim in, even though I was slightly lumbered with my camera equipment and my car etc.
I stayed at the Benners Hotel in Dingle, the oldest hotel in the town, which is the most westerly town in mainland Europe. It's right in the centre of town, with great staff, service and most importantly a vibrant bar area. Having travelled for two days beforehand and slept in a tent the night before, I was particularly pleased at the great night's sleep, and even more so at the enormous breakfast I hovered the next morning to prepare myself for a day of filming along the Dingle.
It took me most of a day to get from Dingle to Slea Head (00:52), mainly because I was compelled to stop literally every 200 metres to take another clip of the magnificent views. Unfortunately, when I got to Dunquin, it started really heaving it down with rain, so sloped into a Youth Hostel at the top of the road opposite the very informative Blaskets Interpretive centre. The Blaskets are a group of islands just off Dunquin where a community lived until 1953 who spoke only Irish language. In the 1930's a group of people from the Island emigrated en masse to Springfield MA, and by 1950 only 25 people remained. The Dingle Peninsular, and Connemara are only two places in Ireland where you can now find Irish spoken as a first language.
On speaking to the landlady at the Hostel, we got on to the subject of Ryan's Daughter, the masterpiece of a film by David Lean, which was filmed around Dunquin in the late 1960's. As it happened, the road running alongside the hostel, was literally at the foot of the hill where a village was specially made for the film, and what's the more the old school house, now derelict, stood just half a mile away in the other direction. The next morning, I rose early to walk up to find this location, only to find the track, the elevation of the road I remember so clearly from the film, a few foundations and lots of sheep. There is barely anything left. The view up there was incredible though. I then moved on to the old school house (04:10), which sits right on the edge of a cliff with walls in good condition, but sadly with its tiles all blown off. The main giveaway was the modern mortar in the walls, the breeze blocks inside and a few pipes, but other than that, I could get myself in a position where I could remember the scenes of Michael (Sir John Mills) and the priest Trevor Howard emerging from the gate. At 07:30am it felt magical, and yet so few people came here.
At the foot of the hill is the beach where they filmed the gun running scene, when Leo McKern nearly lost his life while running into the water to grab boxes of ammunition. You will notice the path on the way down to the beach (04:55) and a few of the rock formations, but note that other beaches were also used for this scene, including Inch beach (05:15) further back along the Peninsula, now a surfers paradise.
The rest of the drive around the peninsula was equally awe-inspiring with a number of sites I hope to visit the next time, which will happen in 2012 if all goes well.
My thanks go to the Muireann, the Manager of the Benners Hotel, Catherine Murphy at Fastnet Lines and to Tom at Glidecam who sent one of their excellent products to me in time for this trip.

The Dingle Peninsula in Kerry, Ireland, has to be one of the most spectacularly beautiful places on Earth. The only downside was not being able to see the mountain tops or even to get the opportunity of viewing the scenery from the top of Mount Brandon. Meet the locals as the Overlander travels around Ireland - Complete Program
See the beauty and hospitality of Ireland, through the eyes of it's people.
Stories include:
In Dublin I interviewed Niamh Ni Mhir who works for Hostel World,a local IT business that rode the Celtic Tiger to become the biggest Hostel booking website online Niamh explains how Ireland has changed since my last visit, in the early 1990 s and also tells us what it is she likes about living in Dublin.
I interview Kathleen Moran about the Kilkenny Craft Centre and how Kilkenny established itself as Ireland's craft capital.
In Belfast I interviewed Sean McKernan, a photographer who in 1983 set up a photo exhibition called Belfast Exposed, featuring a lot of images from the height of the troubles.
On the Aran Islands I interviewed Teresa Millane, an old style (Sean Nos) singer.
In Galway I interviewed actor Diarmuid de Faoite about the flourishing arts scene.
The small fishing Village of Dingle on the West Coast of Ireland is home to a friendly Dolphin called Fungi, who seems to prefer the company of humans to his own kind.
In Doolin I interviewed Banjo player, Kevin Griffin about why Doolin has become the traditional music capital of Ireland.
Sean now runs an multifunction arts centre called BX Arts.
Sean discusses how Belfast has changed since the 1997 ceasefire.
In Cork I try and trace my Irish ancestors (O'Shea), and look at the modern day immigration of Polish workers to Ireland.
For my final Irish story, I visit Cahersiveen where there are some Stone Forts that may well been the home of my Shea ancestors.
IF YOU LIKE THE PROGRAM PLEASE RATE IT AND LEAVE ME A COMMENT, LOVED TO HEAR FROM YOU - MARK

Every year, I take a small group of Celtic music fans to exotic locations around the world. We don’t travel in big tour buses and see everything. Instead, we stay in one area. We get to Know the region through its culture, history, and legends. Plus, I bring you some great Celtic music by me and other Celtic artists. Help me decide where we are going for the 2016 trip. Hallein

***[en.]
Hallein, about 10 km south of Salzburg, was already settled by the Celts, who came to significant wealth by salt production. A Celtic Village next to the salt mines, as well as a modern Celtic Museum in Hallein with significant finds gives an insight into life at that time.
Under the Romans the salt mining was discontinued and about 1,000 years later resumed by the Salzburg prince archbishops. Through skillful market control the Salzburg archbishops derived more than half of their income from salt extraction thus securing their dominant economic position.
A peculiarity is the Bavarian-Austrian Salt Treaty of 1829, the oldest still valid State Treaty in Europe. Bavaria acquired the irrevocable right to chop wood for the Reichenhaller brewhouse on Austrian soil near Leogang. In return, the Hallein miners could win salt from a Bavarian field at Bad Dürrnberg.
In Hallein you also find the tomb of Franz Xaver Gruber, the brilliant composer of the popular Christmas carol Silent Night.

Cliffs of Moher Wild Atlantic Way & Galway City 1 Day Tour-HD
Visit the stunning Cliffs of Moher, walk along the breathtaking Atlantic Edge Walk in the Burren National park & and dive into the bohemian atmosphere of Galway City.
Travel with us to the Cliffs of Moher in County Clare located on Ireland’s wild rugged Atlantic coast. The cliffs are the highest cliffs in Europe at 214 meters/700 feet high and were recently voted as the seventh most wonderful heritage site in the world, a global poll conducted by UNESCO.
Departing from Dublin the tour will travel through the counties of Kildare and Limerick before arriving in County Clare. Passing by Bunratty Castle a 15th century medieval Norman fortress and on through Lahinch a world famous surfing and golfing destination. We actually travel through this world famous golf links and along the Atlantic coast.
Arriving at the Cliffs of Moher you benefit from having a premium admittance ticket to the Atlantic Edge an exciting interpretive centre and a new Visitor Experience. Situated in a large domed cave, see photographs, exhibits, displays and experiences that will enchant all who visit. Continue the tour through the dome and experience a virtual reality Cliff face adventure known as THE LEDGE, shown in the audio visual theatre allowing you to experience life at the cliff face both above and below sea level.
Moving outside the visitor centre enjoy a walk along the Cliff face and experience for yourself the exhilarating freedom and the power of nature at work. The fresh air blows in off the ocean and the awe inspiring sheer height of the Cliffs when looking over the edge to the Atlantic are very memorable.
The Cliffs are 214m high at the highest point and range for 8 kilometres along the western seaboard of County Clare. Visit O'Brien's Tower which stands proudly on a headland off these wonderful Cliffs and see the Aran Islands and Galway Bay (2 hour stop).
From the Cliffs of Moher we continue our traveling day deep into the Burren. An amazing scenic drive along Europe’s edge ... next stop North America! Along the 'Atlantic Coast' and through the Burren National Park - see 75% of Ireland’s native flora with numerous ancient monuments, Megalithic Tombs (older than the Pyramids!), Fairy Forts and famous Celtic Crosses.
We stop in the Burren and all can enjoy a walk along the Atlantic ledge. Experience this amazing lunar landscape, breath in this wonderful countryside.
Continuing around Galway Bay towards Galway city we pass the Blackhead Lighthouse and on through Kinvara fishing village famed for its Galway Hookers (boats) and Dunguire Castle built in 1520 and originally the royal palace of the King of Connaught.
There are so many stories to be told about this part of Ireland that you will be thrilled that you have chosen to travel with the only day tour company from Dublin that has a dedicated professional tour guide to involve you with everything you see and a driver that must concentrate fully on the road in this very remote part of Ireland.
We arrive in Galway City described by the writer W.B Yeats as “The Venice of the West”. Galway, city of the tribes is Ireland’s cultural capital. This free-spirited, artistic and bohemian city has an ambience all of its own. Take a 30 minute guided walking tour (included in the ticket) and learn all about this medieval city and its Spanish trading connections. After the walking tour you are free to explore the narrow pedestrian musical streets, discover its secrets with numerous speciality shops, boutique and cafes.
Saying good bye to Galway the day tour returns to Dublin. Sit back relax and listen to the music. The on board entertainment will include extracts from the show riverdance and other select examples of Irish culture which is determined by the tour guide whom is looking after you for the day.
Arriving in Dublin with wonderful memories, to be sure!

Taken from 2015's Singing at Sea cruise, The Browns "wowed" the audience again with a lively instrumental featuring Michaela on a driving Celtic beat. The cruise is always a wonderful week full of music, preaching, fellowship and tropical destinations. Highly recommend! This video was filmed in the Atrium - though we were up another level, the energy and life from the music filled every deck! You'll love this tune!

Dingle Ireland - Celtic Legend
Dingle Ireland - Celtic Legend
To read the article visit http://www.eurodestination.com/2013/05/08/the-dingle-peninsula-ireland/
The Dingle Peninsula in Kerry, Ireland, has to be one of the most spectacularly beautiful places on Earth. I was warned the weather was not going to be great this week, but as it turned out the sea mist that so regularly shrouds the headland at this time of year made the whole place seem even more ethereal than usual. The only downside was not being able to see the mountain tops or even to get the opportunity of viewing the scenery from the top of Mount Brandon.

Ireland Travel Video Guide, Meet a Local Travel Series
Ireland Travel Video Guide, Meet a Local Travel Series

At the last minute everything was okay We bought our tickets, we were on our way It cost us six hundred and sixty-six Francs But that didn't mean anything On our way to Ireland on a French boat And she had a Spanish captain He welcomed us aboard and told us some jokes We tried our best to laugh at them He said, "Oh no, oh no, oh no, oh no We can't have any women on here Don't you know, don't you know, don't you know, don't you know Truckers are like pirates, my dear" He said not to worry, it was only a joke And he showed us to our room And as I was throwing my pack on the bed A man came in behind you Said, "Hey, little lassie, are you alone? Do you need some company?" Then he saw me and he turned to leave Sayin' he was sorry We closed our door and we locked it shut And jumped up on our fluffy beds Blankets and pillows were luxury to us, We had twenty-four hours of them The captain he knocked and he woke us up He told us it was time to eat There was cake, there were fries, there were all sorts of drinks And then we looked out at the sea The waves, the waves, the waves, they rose Up, up thirty feet Then down, down, down they'd go And our stomachs started to sink The captain, the captain, well he saved our lives He gave us some tiny white pills We went to sleep for the rest of the ride,
