(Formerly London College of Printing)....Following the successful study of written journalism & photojournalism became…..
(1989 to 1993)
FREELANCE JOURNALIST & PRESS OFFICER
* Contributed as a freelance journalist to The Daily Telegraph, The Times, The Guardian, Evening Standard, Daily Mail, Daily Express, Daily Mirror, and Hello!
* Worked as a Press Officer for former ITV giant Granada Television during their programme launches in London (including Prime Suspect with Helen Mirren & Jeeves & Wooster with Steven Fry & Hugh Laurie) also at the 1989 Royal Command Performance (when the Queen met the cast of Coronation Street).
* In the Arts world I was in charge of press and publicity, when the Nomadic Zone Gallery took over an empty office block near London’s Oxford Street, to become Europe’s largest private art gallery.
* Commissioned to write the core feature and undertake most of the photography for the Excel Guide to Mexico, for the launch of the first direct British Airways flights from London to Mexico City in 1993.
(1993 – 1997)
EDITOR, WRITER, PHOTOJOURNALIST - THE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH
Between 1993 and 1997, on a freelance basis, I helped win the bid for, and then launched, edited, and ran the Department of Health’s in-house newspaper “Link”, contributing news & feature stories – undertaking all the research and interviews. Attended meetings representing the Department of Health at the Cabinet Office.
Essentially my role involved interviewing key people within the Department of Health and wider NHS, including many of the UK’s top doctors, and taking their often complex messages and translating them into accessible copy that most people within the organization would understand, enabling them in turn to be able to convey to the public the Department’s health messages.
The accuracy of my copy published would be under scrutiny by all, including the Secretary of State and Chief Medical Officer. Major features I produced included “Health of the Nation”, “Men’s Health Issues” and “Women’s Health Issues”.
During this period I was also a major contributor to NHS News – a 26,000 circulation magazine aimed at NHS managers, and numerous other publications including Environment World for the Department of the Environment, at times working directly for the Permanent Secretary and Secretary of State.

TRAVEL JOURNALIST, WRITER, TELEVISION
My first entry into travel journalism came in 1992 when commissioned to write and undertake the photography for the Excel Guide to Mexico, for the launch of the first ever direct British Airways flights from London to Mexico City.
