Amos Shook went missing 43 years ago without a trace and in June of this year his daughter asked police to reopen the cold case and they obliged. Revisiting that case paid off as a car was pulled from a Caldwell County lake in North Carolina with human remains inside and while the official identification hasn’t been made, police believe they found the remains of Amos Shook.

During a news conference today, a Caldwell County sheriff reported that divers went into Lake Rhodhiss and found a car in about 30-feet of water, just off the boat launch ramp. North Catawba Fire and Rescue teams recovered the 1968 Pontiac Catalina, which was the same make, year and model car that Shook was driving when he was last seen back in 1972. It was February 19 of that year that Shook was reported missing by his family, according to WSCOC Local TV News on July 22.

Police agreed to look at the cold case once again after the daughter's request and with the new technology available today that wasn't around over 40 years ago, police retraced the steps of their first investigation. They went into the lake with state of the art sonar equipment and located the car fairly easily in 30-feet of water, reports PIX Local TV today. The search team spotted the car and it was pulled from the lake on Tuesday, according to police.

The human remains found in that car were transported to the chief medical examiner’s office for that county for the official identification and an autopsy. Amos Shook was a retired member of the Air Force when he went missing back in 1972. The dad was in his early 40s when he was reported missing. Foul play is not suspected in this case, but nothing is ruled out as of yet as the investigation is on-going. Today a woman knows what happened to her dad after 43 years of wondering where her dad could have gone.
