Leyton Buzzards - Saturday Night Beneath The Plastic Palm Trees

The 'Leyton Buzzards' second single, and a surprising change from their first 3 track punk release '19 & mad' on 'Small Wonder'. 'Saturday Night beneath the plastic palm tress' is a power pop, reggae style song that got them on TOTP and number 53 in the charts. A lot of people didn't rate this (particularly a lot of punks) but you know what? I always liked it. The only negative comment I would make is check out their clothes, what happened there?

The b-side is back to their punk roots and in-line with their debut single (which I will post later) and if you haven't heard it before I promise you will like it.

So which one do you like best? Leave a comment and tell me.

You can hear their fifth single over on 'Worthless Trash'

Leyton Buzzards - 19 and Mad

The 'Leyton Buzzards' excellent debut on the equally excellent 'Small Wonder' record label (how did one label manage to pick so many brilliant songs?). The a-side '19 and mad' in my opinion is a 24 carat punk song, I love it. The b-sides has two tracks 'Youthanasia' and 'Villain', which you can actually hear signs that the 'Leyton Buzzards' were a bit more than a DIY punk band.

When you compare this with the equally brilliant 'Saturday Night Beneath The Plastic Palm Trees' it's hard to believe it's the same band.

So which one is your favourite? The debut or the second single? Leave a comment.

As usual lyrics in the link, so you can sing along.

a couple of etchings, on one side "Buzzzards Oy Oy Oy" on the other side "Speed 45 (the 45 is scribbled out) Yes "

Leyton Buzzards - Radio 1 In Concert 1979

I was sorting through more boxes of old tapes and was well pleased when I uncovered this little gem. An old friend gave me this many years ago and I had forgotten all about it. I did a quick search and it doesn't appear to be posted anywhere else.

So here's one for you to enjoy. You're hear from the intro that this came of the back of their winning a high profile (BBC1 and the Sun) "Battle of the Bands" contest. Following this they were signed up by "Chrysalis Records".

This concert has them supporting Bethnal (only got the Buzzards here, and personally for me, its the part to have).

It's includes most their best songs, and their first two singles "19 & Mad" and "Saturday Night Beneath the Plastic Palm Trees". So if you never got to see the Leyton Buzzards you can now here what they were like.

Enjoy.
