Me quoted in Fairfax papers on tax haven use
Me quoted by Georgia Wilkins in The Age (and other Fairfax publications) today. John Passant, from the school of political science and international relations, at the Australian National University, said the trend noted by Computershare was further evidence multinationals did not take global regulators seriously. ”US companies are doing this on the hard-nosed basis that any [regulatory] changes that will be made won’t have an impact on their ability to avoid tax,” he said. ”They think it is going to take a long time for the G20 to take action, or that they are just all talk.” (1)

Islam and the Marxist approach to religion

In light of the Islamophobic rallies on the weekend, and the support socialists give to Muslims in fighting this oppression, Erima Dall looks in depth in Solidarity magazine at Marxism, Islam and religion.

She says among other things:

‘When Abbott and Western leaders attack Islam as the basis of terrorism, it is easy to see why resistance to anti-Muslim discrimination can also be taken up in religious terms. This is why defending Muslims against Abbott’s attacks is a crucial part of building the wider fight against Abbott, his anti-terror laws and the system.’

The Left’s view on Islam can be summed up by the phrase “My enemy’s enemy is my friend”

Quite amusing to see Leftists lend support to a sexist, misogynist, homophobic religion.

When Tony Abbott looks at his watch – “misogyny” they cry. When government won’t give homosexuals a piece of paper to register a marriage – “homophobia” they shout.

When Islamic State enslaves woman and throws homosexuals off buildings – nothing to see here!

“The left cannot afford to give an inch to the idea that there is any intrinsic problem with Islam.”

Critical analysis of a belief system – no thanks. Head in the sand will do.

Bullshit. IS have just killed socialists in Turkey; they kill the main Kurdish fighters, and you come out with this unthinking crap. Stick to your narrow world view. Me, I am with all those religious workers and socialists fighting for a new world. You stick with the world of Tony Abbott.

So IS just killed socialists yet we have this ..

“The left cannot afford to give an inch to the idea that there is any intrinsic problem with Islam.”

Maybe there is a slight problem.

Not sure what IS has to do with Islam, but if so I look forward to your active campaigning against Christianity because obviously the KKK and Westboro are its representatives. And those who attack Islam in Australia aren’t highlighting evil, they are promoting it in the form of racial and xenophobic attacks on Muslims. We give an inch to their crap and we may as well join them. ‘I’m not an Islamophobe but…’

The West’s invasion and reinvasion of Iraq are the proximate causes of the rise of ISIS and it uses the cloak of religion to wage its wars. Perhaps if we hadn’t killed 1.5 million Iraqis there would be no ISIS.

The Islamic State has nothing to do with Islam.

The Catholic Church has nothing to do with Catholicism.

This is fun. (And delusional)

Yes, I think that support for Muslims is at odds with socialists’ support for homosexuality and women’s rights.

It also seems odd that right wing extremists would want to sink the boot into Muslims when they are more likely to be in accord with one another on a range of social issues (conservative).

I can see a day when supporters of various religious faiths join forces against those with no moral fibre e.g. Greens.

I said it uses the cloak of religion. I did not mention Catholicism. You know, the English Civil War wasn’t really just about religion either, although it was often fought out and over in those terms? Develop some depth. I notice you or Tony Abbott still haven’t condemned the KKK, WSestboro or even Hillsong. Obviously Christianity is a religion of evil. Those who refuse to condemn the evil done in the name of Christianity are not part of Team Australia.

The KKK wasn’t a religious organisation – its was a political organisation.

‘The terrorist wing of the Democratic Party’ as its been called.

The KKK is cloaked in Christianity. Just like ISIS is cloaked in Islam.

Yes, the KKK and ISIS are both extreme breakaway groups from different religious faiths. However I have an issue with this extreme statement:

“Obviously Christianity is a religion of evil.”

Since no one and no belief system (religious or otherwise) is perfect , there could be a certain amount of evil attached to the running of any organisation.

I don’t think the KKK can be solely labelled a political organisation. Lots of cults which are acknowledged as destructive have elements of religion, science, politics and psychology. Some are also tied up in the drug trade. In other words, they are a composite of various interactive disciplines designed to divide, conquer, disempower and, most importantly, profit.

I have been highly suspicious of the Hillsong churches for a very long time.

My comment that “Obviously Christianity is a religion of evil” was applying Mike’s logic in relation to ISIS and Islam. It was ironic, sarcastic etc.
