I decided to make this into some mini muffins (since I only had a cupcake tin) and they turned out amazing! I cut the sugar to 3/4 cup like others suggested. Also added chia seeds and chopped almonds to the mix for crunch as well. Also since they're muffins, I cut the cooking time to 20 mins instead. So easy, so great!

I found this too sweet (and I thought I was a sweet tooth!)... I've used a different recipe before off here which was much better

Lovely and quick treat. I add some vanilla essence to the egg mix and it gives it a nice sweeter flavour. I usually add extra bananas (if I have them) i also add a bit of extra cinnamon but I use cinnamon sugar but it's up to you if you want to reduce the brown sugar a bit. I also dust it with butter whilst it's hot and add more cinnamon sugar. You won't be disappointed!!!

Ive reduced the sugar to 1/2 cup, added 2 tbsp of molassess, 1/2 tsp each of bicarb & baking powder & handful of crushed walnuts. The batter tasted divine. Its baking in the oven now. I cant wait!!

Super fast, super easy. I added a half cup of dessicated coconut and a tablespoon of olive oil to the original recipe, as well as a pinch of nutmeg and all spice. Tastes lovely, and cooked in 45mins.

Super quick and easy to make. This remains my go to banana bread recipe. I tend to add a little less sugar and cinnamon and occasionally a dash of milk depending on how much moisture the bananas give. I sprinkle a coarse sugar on top before baking too :) Perfect warm with lashings of butter. Never seems to last more than 24 hours in my house though.

Fantastic banana bread! Used this recipe for making banana bread for the first time and it worked beautifully! Nice and moist and with a touch of crumble. The only thing I found was it was a little sweet so next time I'm only adding ½-¾ cup of brown auger. Otherwise absolutely fantastic recipe!

This recipe is just awesome! The recipe does not require too many ingredients, it is super easy follow and the end product is of an excellent quality, every single time I make it. The Banana Bread is moist and tasty and my family just can't get enough of it. Thank you so much for sharing this recipe idea.

Nice and simple plus the people i shared it with seemed to love it. Only thing to note would be that i had to leave it in the oven for about an extra 20mins to what is recommened...although i had my oven at 160 instead of 180 as it's a fan forced oven.

I used this simple recipe in a huge hurry, did everything wrong, used plain flour with bicarb instead of SR flour... and the cake came out beautifully! Classic banana bread taste, super straight forward recipe. Will repeat over and over, and perhaps start adding either blueberries, raspberries or pecans to the mix.

Great recipe, very easy & the end result was delicious! Probably the most like a cafe style banana bread that I've tried. I followed the advise of adding a tbsp of golden syrup which adds a bit of sweetness without being too sickly. Brought the loaf into work this morning and it was all gone by lunch time :)

I added a tbsp of golden syrup to this recipe, if your not a sweet tooth this recipe does not need it. Wonderfully easy, takes 10mins to whip up and is amazing toasted in a sandwich press and then smeared with butter.

Okay so I tried some banana bread on a holiday recently and thought that maybe I'd make some at home. I went on to taste and found this recipe which had lots of great reviews. The first bite was like OMG!!! THIS IS AMAZING!! It was soooooo much better than the one at the cafe! It was moist and bananery and oh so yummy! Highly recommended! I sprinkled some brown sugar on top to give it a crunchy crust. The only thing I found was that it took about an 1hour 5 minutes to cook but DEFINITELY worth the wait!! 5 stars for sure!!

This is a very good banana bread recipe! Takes less than 10 minutes to throw together and stays nice and moist for a couple of days. Also very versatile - I threw in a large handful of chopped walnuts this time and might try choc chips next time. Delish!
4.5breeahnabanana added this comment at 04:39pm Tue 2nd April, 2013
I have made this three times. The first time I made it I followed it exactly & it was great. The second time I added 1/3 cup shredded coconut & one tablespoon of vegetable oil & it was brilliant, extra moist and stayed that way for longer. The last time I made this I added an vegetable oil, 1/2 cup of chopped walnuts & an extra banana, it tastes amazing, but I shouldve been a good girl & taken out a little sugar as the extra banana gave additional sweetness. You really can play around with this recipe! :)

Don't bother with the other banana bread recipes, use this one! Super delicious fresh out of the oven. I tested it out with a halved recipe (but one banana was enough), and added extra cinnamon sugar and cloves. It's just as tasty serving plain, but butter on it is nice as well. If you want to avoid butter in the mixture, substitute with olive oil. This recipe gets my recommendation!

Great recipe, couple of things to tweak. Seems to take much longer to cook than what the recipes states. Even though the first one looked good & was nice & springy it wasn't cooked. Use the skewer method. It also helps to use 2 bananas instead of 3 otherwise it's too mushy. 3 ladyfingers would probably be fine but the good old cavendish are much bigger so just think about the volume of banana you're putting in.

This recipe is exactly how banana bread should taste. The results far exceed the effort. I followed the recipe exactly except I substituted the self-raising flour for wholemeal self-raising. Because of this it took a little longer to cook, but still produced a classic, dense and flavoursome loaf. This will be my go-to banana bread recipe from now on.

Equally good with wholemeal flour (s/raise and plain). Ran out of butter so replaced with grapeseed oil. And out of brown sugar, replaced with dark brown sugar (halfed the recipe portion of sugar). Yum!

I made it again today - this time I had no bananas in the house. So I used a teaspoon of ground ginger, and tinned peaches. Drained the peaches, chopped them up in a blender (still a bit chunky, like mashed banana consistency) and used about 1 to 2 tablespoons of juice from the tin. The kids are begging me to make it again, (5, 7, 8 yrs).

I made this recipe today and have just tried it. It tastes okay, but there seems to be something missing. It's a bit bland. I took the other reviewers advice and reduced the sugar and increased the SR Flour. It's a good thing that I did - it's certainly sweet enough with 1/2 cup sugar and it barely rose with 1 cup SR Flour & 1/2 cup Plain Flour. My bananas had been frozen, so maybe they lost some of their flavour in the process? If I do make this again, I'll think about adding more spice.

Finally after searching far and wide I have found the perfect "cafe style" banana bread. Others I have tried are cakey and too sweet. This one is like the perfect bread consistency and could have paid $5 for it at Gloria Jeans or McCafe. Tastes amazing and soooo easy. I followed receipe exactly and didnt add a thing. Sliced once cooled and put in freezer wrapped in cling wrap for kids packed lunch.

Yum! I added more cinnamon and some finely chopped dates, decreased the sugar to 3/4 cup and added some honey as others had suggested. It was still quite sweet, so I'd probably go with 1/2 cup sugar next time but still add some honey (we have our own bees, so it makes it special!). It took 45 minutes in my 160 fan forced gas oven and was eaten as soon as I tipped it out of the pan. Will make this again and maybe add some nutmeg as well.

Im generally not a 'sweets' baker, and this recipe is perfectly easy and quick to whip together when there are leftover ripe bananas. Every oven is different but I found that 40 mins is perfect for min. Gets better and better.

It's not out of the oven yet, the bowl tasted yummy though :) I placed all measured ingredients on the table, and my 4 yr old boy popped on his apron and did 100% everything himself, even mashing the bananas and cracking the eggs. Fab kid friendly and confidence building recipe! Next time I'll try it with less sugar though.

Great recipe! It was so easy to make and my whole family loved it. I find thought that f you leave the banana bread in the tin for half an hour after you take it out of the oven, it becomes soft and moist. I also used 5 bananas instead of 3.

Just made this and is currently cooling down at the moment. I put half the sugar in than the recipe said because from reading other comments i thought it might be a little less sweeter which is what i want because banana bread isn't suppose to be TOO sweet. next time i'll put in more SR than the recipe has said though as it hasn't rised as much as i thought it was going to.. smells great though!

I have just made this as I had a couple of overripe $13 per kg bananas and I was not wasting them!! Such a great recipe. As others have mentioned, I used all s.r flour and instead of all white flour I used 1 cup wholemeal s.r and half a cup white s.r. I also added about half a cup of chopped walnuts and only 3/4 cup brown sugar. Turned out beautifully. Definaty one to make a lot when bananas are cheaper again!!

Super yummy toasted with butter and a dash of maple syrup for an indulgent morning tea. Next time I think I'll add in some chopped date - yummm!

This was so easy to make, only took 5 minutes. Only had 2 bananas so added some choc chips to the mixture as well. Was delicious.

Yummy, yummy, and more yummy. It's super easy and uses normal ingredients. It'd be nice with sultanas added as well.

wow, i actually made this. I've only ever used cake mix from boxes BUT this was so easy to make, I was multi tasking by still putting the shopping away while making this up. So simple, and minimal ingredients. Tastes so nice aswell, I think ill be eating it all before my boyfriend gets home in 20min...

Sensational. Really easy and really yummy. My 4 and 2 year olds helped make it and loved it. We had to do a bit of a mix of flours but it turned out really well. This will be a regular for those overripe bananas.

very tasty. to die for served warmed up in toaster and spread with butter. found it was a bit too much like cake straight after making. better served the next day, much easier to cut the next day too.

Really liked this banana bread, although next time I would try it with a little less butter.

I agree with everyone - so easy and tasty - I found I was short on the 1 cup of brown sugar by about a third so I threw in a couple of tablespoons of malted milk powder and it came out great with an extra caramel/malt flavour - yum.

Very easy to make. These taste better the day after they are made. They also taste great heated up on a sandwich press and then put some butter on them yum yum. I will be making these again real soon.

Made one loaf and was eaten mostly before it cooled. Made another with replaced plain to wholemeal flour and cut it up, in the freezer for treats in school lunch or afternoon snacks.

This recipe is a hit in our household. I substitute wholemeal flour to make it a bit 'healthier'. Slice it, wrap it in cling film to freeze, then put a slice in the toaster when someone wants some and spread with butter when toasted and warmed through.

I added walnuts to this recipe which made it more cake-like. A great tidy recipe though that has had requests for more!

Lovely and still light for a banana bread. We left the mash a little chucky and it was still lovelly. My 12 year old help with this. So quick and easy.

Question: will this recipe work with frozen bananas?

Question: Just a late reply to the question below about replacing butter. Grapeseed oil is great for baking as it has a mild taste and higher smoke point than most other oils.

Question: Has anybody used their breadmaker to cook it ???
    Dough-nut101 replied at 11:48am Mon 2nd July, 2012
This is not actually a bread, more of a cake, I doubt it would work in a bread maker but give it a go, then you will know for sure.
