To commemorate 100 years since ANZAC forces landed at Gallipoli, Fairfax Media has commissioned graphic artist Jim Kaucz to depict Australia's involvement in World War I. The resulting illustration, ANZAC 100: Australia and The Great War, features famous scenes from Gallipoli and the battles that followed, as well as faces, places and images now etched into history. The illustration is rich in detail and symbolism and is available to buy as a limited-edition reproduction on fine art paper, framed or unframed.

Strictly limited to an edition of only 1000, each fine art reproduction is hand signed by the artist. There are 500 large sized prints, numbered 1-500, and 500 standard sized prints numbered 501-1000.

We will donate $25 from the purchase of each print to veterans support charity Soldier On.

From the peace of home, to the desert training grounds, to the Gallipoli peninsula and the devastation of the Western Front, the work shows the role our young nation played in an unthinkably vast conflict that engulfed the world.

Details about the artwork:

The artist has adopted a graphic technique, with the detailed use of pen and ink on card to achieve an etching like finish

It is printed on archival paper, which should ensure it lasts for over 100 years if cared for properly.

Accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity, signed by the Editorial Director, Australian Community Media, Rod Quinn.

The work is the product of extensive research, whereby a myriad of potential images were considered in terms of content and depiction.

The Frame:

A high quality Malaysian produced renewable plantation timber is used and is available in satin black. The framed versions are classically proportioned and presented in a 3cm-wide frame with clear glass, backed by 100% acid-free board.

The Paper:

The high quality of the paper should ensure a life of more than 100 years if cared for properly.

A museum quality Smooth Cotton High White is used. It’s 315 gsm with 100% cotton linters and a sily smooth matte surface.

It is acid & lignin free with an excellent colour gamut.

The surface has a special matte coating, designed for high quality fine art and photographic reproduction

The term “Giclée Print” (pronounced zhee-clay) refers to an elevation in printmaking technology.

Images are printed with archival quality Ultrachrome pigment based K3 inks onto canvas and smooth or textured fine art paper.

Artist Bio
Jim Kaucz was born on 10 December 1947 in Gillingham Kent to an English mother and a Polish father.

He was educated at Wembley and Ealing Grammar Schools in London.

He then studied town planning at Edinburgh College of Art/Heriott-Watt University, where he also attended evening life drawing classes.

Jim has for long been fascinated by the fusion of urban form, its landscape setting and the people and events that mould a place over time.

This fascination has found expression in the following graphic works:
1. Edinburgh mural (1970)
2. Kuwait mural (1980) - commissioned by Kuwait Municipality to commemorate 50 years of its operation.
3. Leith mural (1982) - commissioned by South Leith Parish Church – print presented to the Duke of Edinburgh at the opening of the new church extension.
4. Pilbara monoliths (2012) - exhibited at the Cossack and Port Hedland art awards – 3 designs completed and sold to purchasers in the Pilbara.
5. Canberra 100 (2013) - marking the centenary of the Australian capital, this work featured on the front page of The Canberra Times and a limited edition of prints quickly sold out.
Jim has practiced as a town planner/urban designer in Edinburgh, Shetland, Orkney, Kuwait and in various states and territories of Australia.

Between 2006 and 2012 he lived in Karratha, working for the WA Department of Planning.

He has now retired from his planning career and is concentrating on his urban graphic and illustration interests.

He lives with his wife, Wanda, in Canberra and has three adult children.
