Philippines: Soldarity statement from the Black and Green Forum and Solidarity Eco-Camp

ECO CAMP BACKGROUND

Eco-Camp is an activity organized by Mobile Anarchist School with the help by Local Autonomous Network (LAN) both active in the Philippines. Last April 2012 was the first camping held in Tanay Rizal, Philippines. It was attended by various collectives and individuals totaling around 40 people who participated the various activities and discussions in the camp. The objective of the eco-camp was to discuss the different issues confronting our current society and to find solidarity actions that can help expose and popularize our issues.

After series of activities in 2012, the LAN decided to expand its activities on ecological issues due to concrete manifestation of the crisis impacting the archipelago.

The second eco-camp gathering was organized by LAN and the Mobile Anarchist School in March 2013 to heighten our education campaign and to strengthen the relationship with other affinity groups and build an international network better able to work towards intensifying our impact by making solidarity actions globally. Australia: “Green militancy alarms industry”

10 September, The Australian: A rising tide of green militancy in the nation’s forests has alarmed industry, which is calling for police and government intervention to fight sabotage, safety breaches and production delays caused by reckless protesting.

As the Gillard government threw its weight behind a sustainable forestry industry, business warned that new tactics by conservationists were dramatically raising the risks of injury and violence.

Mountain ranges in southeast Australia are at the centre of the latest environmental flashpoint, with bushfire devastation intensifying concern and activism among grassroots groups about how to deal with the remaining timber resource.

Victorian Association of Forest Industries chief executive Lisa Marty has warned that dawn raids by masked intruders and attempts to shut down 40-tonne equipment by stealth meant that the workplace was becoming perilous. Continue reading →

NZ: Hundreds of GM trees cut down Rotorua

April 13: According to the media, hundreds of genetically modified trees have been destroyed at the Crown Research Institute Scion site near Rotorua. The same place was already the target of a successful attack in early 2008 when 19 GM pine trees were cut down.

The field trial site contained 375 radiata pines trees planted last year following approval from ERMA (now the Environmental Protection Authority). Set inside Scion’s perimeter fence, the 1-hectare field trial site was secured by a double fence, one of which was electrified and monitored. Similarly to 2008, no group or individual has claimed responsibilty for getting rid of the GM trees. One can expect a large police operation to track down any fingerprints or DNA left at the ‘crime scene’. Continue reading →
