Cam Newton scored a touchdown this past Sunday against the Tennessee Titans and did an end-zone dance, which drew a dumb letter from a mother in attendance who was outraged that her nine-year-old daughter had to see this.
That mother, Rosemary Plorin, fired off an open letter to The Charlotte Observer, which in-turn sparked a bunch of identical online think pieces. Needless to say her not so well thought out words went viral. A couple excerpts included:
'That game happened to be my nine year old daughter’s first live NFL experience. She was surprised to see so many Panthers’ fans sitting in our section of the stadium; that doesn’t happen much at fourth grade football games. And she was excited we were near the end zone, so we would be close to the “action,” particularly in the second half.
Because of where we sat, we had a close up view of your conduct in the fourth quarter. The chest puffs. The pelvic thrusts. The arrogant struts and the ‘in your face’ taunting of both the Titans’ players and fans. We saw it all.
I refuse to believe you don’t realize you are a role model. You are paid millions of dollars every week to play hard and be a leader. In the off season you’re expected to make appearances, support charities, and inspire young kids to pursue your sport and all sports. With everything the NFL has gone through in recent years, I’m confident they have advised that you are, by virtue of your position and career choice, a role model.
I didn’t have great answers for her, and honestly, in an effort to minimize your negative impact and what was otherwise a really fun day, I redirected her attention to the cheerleaders and mascot."
Those words, originally intended for the Charlotte-area, went national, which was bad for Plorin, but at least the intended target actually saw it. Asked about what he thought about the controversy (if that's what you want to call it) Newton gave a very easygoing response, and even offered up an apology...for whatever reason, saying:
"Everybody is entitled to their own opinion. You can’t fault her for that. It is what it is. If she feels offended, I’ll apologize to her, but at the end of the day, I am who I am. I’m not doing it to be disrespectful to nobody, more so just doing it just to shine light and get people a smile and having fun doing what I do."
After viewing Newton's answer, Plorin has re-thought her position on the Panthers' quarterback. She sent out an email to a reporter who asked for her response to...Cam's response:
“I watched the video of Cam Newton responding to media questions about my letter to him earlier this week. I really appreciate his comments and his respect for my thoughts, and I was impressed with the sensitivity and graciousness with which he spoke. I am sorry I didn’t understand him better until this week. It is clear from his remarks that he recognizes his leadership role, both on and off the field, and that he truly cares about the kids watching him. I respect his comments just as much as he did mine, and I wish him nothing but continued success on the field and in life.”
Anyway, now that that's gone full circle, let this whole stupid saga serve as a warning for the next time you feel like firing off an open letter over an end-zone dance.
As much as you want to, and as important of a subject as it is, it's just not worth it.

Andrew Lloyd (born 14 February 1959) is best known for coming from behind in the last lap to take the 5000m gold medal in the 1990 Auckland Commonwealth Games.
Lloyd was born in Colchester, Essex, England. He represented Australia at the 1988 Summer Olympics and 1985 and 1989 IAAF World Cross Country Championships. He won many prestigious Australian road races in the 1980s and 1990s including the 1983, 1984, 1986 and 1993 City to Surfs, the 1979, 1980 and 1981 Melbourne Marathons (2:26:44, 2:17:37 and 2:19:03 respectively) and the 1980 Gold Coast Marathon (2:23:02).
He also won in cross country races such as the Chiba International Cross Country in 1988.

Cam Newton scored a touchdown this past Sunday against the Tennessee Titans and did an end-zone dance, which drew a dumb letter from a mother in attendance who was outraged that her nine-year-old daughter had to see this.
That mother, Rosemary Plorin, fired off an open letter to The Charlotte Observer, which in-turn sparked a bunch of identical online think pieces. Needless to say her not so well thought out words went viral. A couple excerpts included:
'That game happened to be my nine year old daughter’s first live NFL experience. She was surprised to see so many Panthers’ fans sitting in our section of the stadium; that doesn’t happen much at fourth grade football games. And she was excited we were near the end zone, so we would be close to the “action,” particularly in the second half.
Because of where we sat, we had a close up view of your conduct in the fourth quarter. The chest puffs. The pelvic thrusts. The arrogant struts and the ‘in your face’ taunting of both the Titans’ players and fans. We saw it all.
I refuse to believe you don’t realize you are a role model. You are paid millions of dollars every week to play hard and be a leader. In the off season you’re expected to make appearances, support charities, and inspire young kids to pursue your sport and all sports. With everything the NFL has gone through in recent years, I’m confident they have advised that you are, by virtue of your position and career choice, a role model.
I didn’t have great answers for her, and honestly, in an effort to minimize your negative impact and what was otherwise a really fun day, I redirected her attention to the cheerleaders and mascot."
Those words, originally intended for the Charlotte-area, went national, which was bad for Plorin, but at least the intended target actually saw it. Asked about what he thought about the controversy (if that's what you want to call it) Newton gave a very easygoing response, and even offered up an apology...for whatever reason, saying:
"Everybody is entitled to their own opinion. You can’t fault her for that. It is what it is. If she feels offended, I’ll apologize to her, but at the end of the day, I am who I am. I’m not doing it to be disrespectful to nobody, more so just doing it just to shine light and get people a smile and having fun doing what I do."
After viewing Newton's answer, Plorin has re-thought her position on the Panthers' quarterback. She sent out an email to a reporter who asked for her response to...Cam's response:
“I watched the video of Cam Newton responding to media questions about my letter to him earlier this week. I really appreciate his comments and his respect for my thoughts, and I was impressed with the sensitivity and graciousness with which he spoke. I am sorry I didn’t understand him better until this week. It is clear from his remarks that he recognizes his leadership role, both on and off the field, and that he truly cares about the kids watching him. I respect his comments just as much as he did mine, and I wish him nothing but continued success on the field and in life.”
Anyway, now that that's gone full circle, let this whole stupid saga serve as a warning for the next time you feel like firing off an open letter over an end-zone dance.
As much as you want to, and as important of a subject as it is, it's just not worth it.

Oddly enough, it seems as though extreme obesity and schizophrenia may have common causes. Scientists have mapped both the regions in our genetic material that contain genes which may cause schizophrenia and the regions containing genes that may lead to extreme obesity. The large volumes of data indicate that the two diseases may have some common genes. Consequently, there may be regions in our genetic material in which small changes may increase the risk of obesity but may also increase the risk of developing schizophrenia.
“This is exciting because we can see that lots of the common genes are expressed in the brain. This indicates to me that, to a great extent, obesity is located in the brain,” says Tune H. Pers, researcher in genetics and bioinformatics. He has recently received a Lundbeck Foundation Fellowship and has been awarded DKK 10 million over five years to make use of this new knowledge and attempt to identify how variations in the genes result in obesity.

Manjot is always pulled up by his father, Happy, for being laidback while his mother always comes to his rescue. In a chance encounter, Amanda meets Manjot and finds him cute while it is love at first sight for him. Manjot just can't get Amanda out of his mind and looks for excuses to meet her. When Saumya's mother announces that the most eligible bachelor in town, Deepak, has shown interest in marrying her, Saumya throws a fit and refuses to get married. The real reason behind this is her boyfriend, Shaunak about whom their family is clueless.
The two lovers are silly and immature and fight like cats and dogs and they break-up as Saumya loses her cool with Shaunak's 'chalta hai' attitude about the marriage proposal she recently received. In the meantime, Saumya's mother invites Deepak and his family home, but there is a twist in the tale. Instead of Saumya, Deepak is totally smitten by Kiran and her simple ways. As they are in different colleges, they realize that they cannot manage to spend as much time with each other as they would have loved to. So, when Tia suggests that Raghav should move in with her as she stays by herself, he hesitates initially but then agrees and they start living together. Raghav’s family, of course, is unaware of this development and when they decide to pay a surprise visit to his hostel, they are shocked out of their wits to know that Raghav doesn’t stay in the hostel anymore. Bollywood actress Jiah Khan committed suicide on June 3, 2015. The case is again in the news, thanks to the fresh charge sheet filed by the CBI. According to a report on Bollywoodlife.com, it has been revealed that Jiah's alleged boyfriend Sooraj Pancholi was already aware of the fact that Jiah was in acute depression and had instructed his male house-help to keep a close eye on her.
